4 AnswersLanguages4 years agoEnglish grammar - have to and must?
Hi everyone! I can't quite understand the difference between "must" and "have to" in the following situation.
Let's say, there's an army officer talking to a soldier. Would he say: "You must follow my orders" or "You have to follow my orders?" Which is more natural?
Thank you:))
9 AnswersWords & Wordplay4 years agoHi everyone:) I've written a little text on modal verbs, could you please tell me if all of them sound naturally here? Thank you)?
Cats are great pets. However, they are several things you need to think about before you adopt a cat. You shouldn’t get a cat just for fun. You need to be responsible. Remember, you will regularly have to buy food, toys and litter for your pet. If your cat has health problems, you also must pay for regular medical expenses.
If you decided to get a cat, you ought to choose which cat you want to adopt. You can get either a kitten or a full-grown cat. Kittens are more energetic and need more attention.
Some people take cats for a walk, but you don’t have to do this. Cats are very independent and love exploring places on their own.
Cats mustn’t eat the same types of food that we eat, it is very unhealthy for them. It’s a good idea to carefully study their diet and not to feed them with food they can’t eat.

Hey there! Found a little hawk (can't fly) in the street (no chance to find the parents anymore:((( but I'm in Istanbul just for another week. Does anybody know of a place I can take it to? The pet shops can't take one because they're only supposed to sell domestic animals. Is there a bird society or anything in Istanbul? Maybe somebody just wants to have one? A cage comes for free:))

7 AnswersWords & Wordplay9 years agoWhat's your daily routine?:)?

1 AnswerWords & Wordplay9 years agoQuestion to native English speakers?
Hey, guys, I've got this language question.
Officially, grammar books say that regrets about the past can be expressed in English by these:
* 3rd Conditional clauses (e.g. "If I had left earlier, I would have been on time!")
* I wish / if only (e.g. "I wish / if only I had kissed her!")
* should have and ought to have (e.g. "I should have / I ought to have been a better father!")
Can you think of any other ways you use to express regret about the past? For example, merely the use of Past Simple: "Oh, didn't turn the light off!" also express regret in the past, right?
3 AnswersLanguages9 years agoCan "ought to have" be used to express regrets in the past?
I know we usually use "I wish I had..." / "If only I had..." / 3rd Conditional / "I should have..." to express past regret. Is it possible to use "ought to have..." to express regret, too? Any other ways you could think of?:)
Thank you!:)
3 AnswersWords & Wordplay9 years agoDoes this text sound authentic to you?
Hello, I am studying English and would like to know if this text sounds authentic to native English speakers (the obvious statement in the last sentence is supposed to sound a bit stupid, but this is a script from a real-life conversation). Do you think this was said by a native? If not, what sounds wrong to you? How would you word it? Thank you:))
"Some people think that killing animals for fun is okay. What a disgusting, preposterous idea! I bet they literally have no brains! It’s so dumb that it makes me barf! I don’t mean to be repetitive, but it’s disgusting, really! It’s tragic, because when you kill someone, they end up dead, it’s so obvious!"

5 AnswersAdd-ons1 decade agoCan you think of some nice tasks?
Hello!:) I want to make a party for 20 people who don't know each other. To make it more fun, everyone is going to draw a task-card from a hat along with introducing themselves. Can you think of some interesting tasks to be written on the cards? All I can think of is: "Tell a story" / "Sing a song" / "Recite a poem" / "Dance"... Do you have any ideas for other decent tasks? (There are going to be some elderly people, too, so climbing trees and running away after knocking on neighbours doors is not an option:) Thank you!:)
