I have been singing for 30+ years and have been taking voice lessons for the past 9 years. I sing in a competitive chorus who is currently ranked 3rd out of the Barbershop Harmony Societies 800+ choruses. Though I am not a voice teacher, I have learned a lot through my teacher and many vocal coaches who have worked with my chorus. I enjoy passing on what I have learned from a students perspective rather than a teachers one, and will do my best to answer the questions I feel I have the information to pass along.

  • Is a tankless water heater the answer?

I have a mountain cabin which I get just occasional use (6 or 7 times a season) My water system uses a 400 gal holding tank which I carry water into from a local, public Artesian well, and use a pressure pump to provide water pressure to a kitchen sink, a bathroom sink & toilet and a naval shower (3 gal/minute with shut off at shower head) and a 10 gal hot water heater.

The problem is that the hot water heater seems to fail every 3 or 4 years. It has failed again and I am trying to figure out best solution. I am sure it is failing because it sets without use (turned off and drained between uses) In the past, I just replace with same, but now am thinking that it might be time to consider something different.

My question is if a tank-less unit might be the answer. using good spring water so not worried about hard water; no gas, just electric, longest run is about 15' from heater closet to Kitchen, about 8' to bathroom sink and 4' to shower. Is this something I should consider? Have 110 outlet in closet, but would consider 220 if better. at rate I am going, tanks have cost me close to $1,000 for a stupid 10 gal tank.

What is your experience and recommendation? Could there be something I can do to save the tank heater I have now? It is only 3 years old.

  • where in the world would you go?

My son came home with an interesting extra credit assignment for History that got me to thinking....

The assignment... you have access to a time machine that will transport you to anywhere in time. You will only be an observer, not a participant. Pick a time or period, and location from anything we have studied through the year. Explain where you are going, and why you would like to observe the event(s) and what is going on and why you are interested.

(This is from a World History class and studied world history from the 1500's to modern day. I thought this to be a great history assignment, and though I am not helping my son, it got me to thinking about where I would go, and how I would approach this topic. Thought it would be a great discussion topic for answers.... So where in the world would you go?

  • what software will allow you to thread many different audio and VIDEO tracts together?

I am trying to find out how this video was put together. It is an amazing feat, and I know a lot of production effort was put into it, but am wondering what software could be used to bring in this many tracts of both Video and audio. I have seen some that can handle maybe 25 video and 100 audio tracts, but nothing this large.

any knowledge or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

  • Curiosity question.... Who has sung Barbershop Harmony, either in school, a chorus or a quartet?

Just a curiosity poll if you will. This is a hobby I am very active in, and I am curious as to how many others, using this Singing category, have similar interest.

    1. Have you sung any Barbershop Harmony?

    2. If so, in a chorus or quartet or both?

    3. If in a chorus, was it in school or a community chorus

    4. if a quartet, was it for school or fun?

    5. Do you still sing Barbershop? (chorus or quartet)

    6. Male or Female?

    7. Age

    8. If not singing now, would you be interested in singing again?

    9. your location?

  • what makes BG44K shop only use?

Looks like this is a gas additive. I'm just wondering why it is a shop only product? I usually do my own oil changes. What is it, and is it worth going to a shop for.

  • NetGear Router problems????

I have been using my Netgear router for about six months without issues. Yesterday, it started dropping and reconnecting on a 15 second interval. I tested out the cable modem by connecting, via cable, directly to the modem, and have no problems. I then reset my router to default settings, and reset my computers to match. I have also tried setting it to a specific channel rather than letting auto select. Tried both WEC and WPA settings.

Still have same issue. It will connect, I can load first page of a web site, then it goes into this 15 (or so) cycle where it connects, drops, then reconnects.

I'm starting to think my router has gone bad, but thought I'd ask here before laying down the $$$ for a new router. Any thoughts, ideas or similar experiences out there?

  • I need another pitcher on my fantasy baseball team?

I lost one of only 3 SP's for the start of the season, and need to replace him. I am thinking of Franklin Morales of CO, but he had a shaky pre-season. Since the league is starting, starting pitchers are getting limited. Here are a few I have access to and am considering. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

    Matt Garza - TB

    Andrew Miller - FLA

    Hiroki Kuroda - LAD

    Franklin Morales - CO

    Brian Bannister - KA

    Jon Garland - LAA

  • What would be the best way to advertise a music opportunity to homeschool students?

I belong to a large mens chorus in Denver Colorado, that ranges in age from 15 to 80 and we are wanting to provide music opportunities for home schooled boys that have an interest in choral music.

What would be the best way to get word out about the opportunity?

  • What is it about todays "young single males"?

I asked this question in the singles and date category, and the answers as interesting, so I would like to ask it again here, and get family input.

have two sons, one is 26 the other is 24, both are college graduates. My oldest has both a BS in Psycology and a Tech certificate in motorcycle mechanics, (the tech degree came after the college degree,) and just started his career as a motorcycle mechanic this week.

My question is really more of a generational question than one about my sons, but when I was younger, though I loved them very much, and could have stayed as long as I wanted, I could not get out of my parents house fast enough. I married right after college, started my career and then my family. My wife and I have a great relationship with both, and they are welcome in our house as long as they are paying off their school and have a job.

What strikes me though, is that neither has any interest in long term relationships and stated that more than likely they will be single

  • Sharp, piercing pain just to the right of my sternum?

For the last several days, I have been getting these sharp, piercing pain just to the right of my sternum. No pain at all on my left side, just these stabbing pains two or three times a day since Thursday.

At first I just thought it was my GIRD acting up, but it is not quite the same. It does not feel like heart burn and there is no other pain associated with it.

    Should I be concerned?

  • Why would a company like Ford Motors go after a club of supporters ......?

who's only motive is support of one of Ford's products? This just does not make any since to me. According to Ford, if you take a picture of YOUR car, and it is a Ford, that picture, and the rights to use it, belong not to you, but to the Ford Motor Company. Why?????

  • anyone else recognize the arena for American Gladiator?

I was watching the ad for the American Gladiator and had one of those de ja vue moments until I realized they had to have gotten their inspiration from an Arnold Schwarzenegger move.

I had to pull it out of my DVD collection to be sure, but it is uncanny how close they are.

Can you guess, or do you know what movie the arena is copied from? (Only clue needed should be Arnold Schwarzenegger.)

  • Chaining up a 4 x 4?

Got in a debate today with my son. He is driving his Ram Charger up to Vail today, and will need chains for a good portion of the drive. I suggested it would be best to put them on his front tires and keep it in 4 high. That would put the weight on the both the steering and the drive where if you put them in the back it would not have the weight on them that he may need in the snow. Though he did not have an argument as to why, he felt it would be better in the back.

So "What say you?" chains on front drive or rear drive for the Ramcharger?
