I am a cradle Catholic and direct religious education in an urban parish. I was ajunior high catechist for 11 years before directing a program. While I am obviously quite conservative, I do always try to see the other person's perspective...but I do so objectively, through the eyes of truth. My husband and I have been married only to each other. Since our 1985 marriage we have cooperated with the Lord in bringing seven amazing young people into the world.

  • Help for an audio learner for standardized tests?

I have a 40 year old friend studying for the GRE. He is an audio learner. I have made him tapes of prefixes, suffixes and roots for the verbal section, and am doing one for math with the basic formulae and terms....but does anyone have any other ideas?

He tried taking a practice computerized test and said he gets to a point where it just doesn't process anymore. I am a visual learner, so standardized tests were a breeze for me. When we talk through the information, he gets it- but when he SEES it, it becomes foreign.

He does not have any learning disability ( although he is beginning to think he has ADD)...and he already has a bachelor's and a Master's degree.

Any input from experienced teachers is appreciated!

  • looking for a list of 'dirty talk from the gym' lines?

    examples:

"Can you help me get this up?"

or... " Do you like a straight rod or a bent one?"

or " Check out how hard this is"

I had a list ages ago...all legitimate things you hear at the gym- that sound a little ( or a lot ) nasty when they are out of context. Had someone ask me to help find it for a legitimate reason....

  • Catholics ONLY! Did you know?

I have had several of my answers that simply explain the Catholic faith reported for being "against community standards" when they clearly were not.

I appealed, and they were restored.

Don't let them get away with it.

I almost wonder if we should be sure to file complaints against those who ask questions that are so hate filled and have no other purpose than to try and make Catholics look bad.

I don't mean legitimate questions- I am talking about the hate-mongers.

    Thoughts?

  • I keep hearing more about Destination weddings. What is the point?

Other than to be sure 'only the right people' come to your wedding.

Where I grew up, weddings are a community event. If my wedding was in Hawaii or where ever, so many of my friends would not have been able to be there.

What is the point....and WHY ON EARTH would anyone want to share their HONEYMOON with anyone?

It is supposed to be a time to get to know each other- or is that pointless since chances are the bride and groom have been sleeping together- and probably living together? What's the point of getting married then anyway?

  • SHUTTERBUGS-What was it in the pictures? Was it a ghost?

We were in Key West over Thanksgiving and did the 'Ghost Tour.' It was hokey, but fun. One of the things they had us do was take two flash photos in rapid succession toward different 'hot spots.' ( this was at night) They would come back with these bright spots in them. With digital pictures, we could see it right away on the screen. The guide said they were pictures of spirit energy.

I figure they were reflections of everyone's flash hitting something in the air and bouncing off it. I've tried it in other situations- empty rooms, cemeteries, on the street....sometimes the spots are there sometimes they aren't

Shutterbugs- any ideas ot logical explanations?

  • Looking for a SPECIFIC Guardian Angel picture picture...?

It is a photograph of a man wearing **AHEM** nothing but a loincloth and a big feathery set of wings.

It went around the Internet as an email 1-3 years ago. My 68 year old mom had it on her computer, but I can't find it now and she asked me to put it as her screen saver.

    Any leads?

  • How much should I expect to spend for a wreath to lay at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier?

I am taking a group of inner city Catholic 7th and 8th graders to DC for the Right to Life March. I got a letter from the Army yesterday saying we are scheduled for a wreath laying. There are no real guidelines, and I haven't been to DC since 1976.

The wreath can be natural or permanent, no size minimum or maximum. My propblem is we are on a very tight budget, we have been raising the money, because just MEAL money for some of these families will be a stretch. So I am going to ask some veterans from our parishes to sponsor the wreath for us, but I don't know 'how much' we should be spending, because I have never seen the ceremony.

    Any help???

    Thanks!

  • Why are so many non-Catholics so vicious in their attacks against the Catholic Church?

I am not talking about the scandals. This has gone on for a LONG time before any of that.

I have a friend who was raped and became pregnant as a result. She decided to keep her son, and continue her studies for ministry. Not one single protestant church would hire her as a youth minister because she set 'the wrong example.'

She was able finally to work for a Christian tv station. She started dating a guy there who was Catholic. They decided to marry, but she converted first. She lost her job at the station because she was converting. It all worked out ok- and she became youth minister at our parish....

But WHY do non Catholics have such animus toward the Church?
