  • Looking for Baroque & Medieval costume dramas on DVD?

I'm interested in watching films, mostly Medieval or Baroque costume dramas, that are "off the beaten path". That is, not necessarily the major Hollywood productions. Any suggestions for titles?

  • What software & websites can you suggest for a senior computer user?

My Dad recently turned 81 and my brother and I got him a laptop computer. He's up on the net, but I'm concerned that the youthful orientation of much of the internet might discourage him. What software (preferably free) and websites would you suggest for a senior citizen?

  • Where can I find a pattern for a Medieval monk's robe?

I'm looking for a Medieval style monk's robe. I was interested in buying the one shown on Museum Replicas' website (http://www.museumreplicas.com/p-403-monks-robe-and... but was turned off when I saw it was listed as "Dry Clean Only". I'd like one that a bit more "authentic", so if anyone could suggest where I could find fabric patterns for such a cowled design, you will have my thanks in advance.

  • Are extended auto warranties worth the money?

I own a 2006 Toyota Corolla and the factory warranty will be ending this month. I've seen adds for third-party extended warranties, and there is a service available through my credit union. Are they worth the money, or is it pointless to have a warranty extended on a 6 year old car? Also, could I get an extended warranty through the dealership I bought the car from (and if so, should I)?

  • What diet changes are needed for someone who will lose a kidney?

My father was diagnosed with kidney cancer and needs to have one removed. (The other one is not cancerous.) While I told him that he should have his doctor recommend a dietitian, I need to know what changes he will need to make in his diet. Also, he is not a drinker any any sense, but he likes an occasional beer now and then. What precautions should he take?

  • Is it normal for hemorrhoids to disappear?

After getting hemorrhoids, I did some research on home treatment and read that a diet very high in fiber and roughage can help. I changed my diet last year, and just recently I noticed that my hemorrhoids were gone. Not shrunken or smaller, but simply not there anymore. Is this normal?

  • What to do if a puppy is deaf?

My cousin has come into possession of a bit bull mix puppy. She's white with light blue eyes, but doesn't react to sound. I've even picked her up and whistled near the back of her head, and she didn't even turn around. My cousin is planning to take her to a vet for testing. If she's totally deaf, he's thinking of buying a "shock collar" for training her. Any comments?

  • What is the best amplified indoor HDTV antenna?

I'd like to know what would be the best investment in an indoor amplified HDTV antenna. I can get local stations, but I'd like to see how far I can pick up signals before investing in an outdoor antenna. If you can, please provide model numbers so I can do comparison shopping. Thank you in advance.

  • When did you realize you were a Nerd?

At what singular point did you realize you were in incurable techie or "brainiac" and decided to make it your life's calling?

For me, it was when I saw "Blade Runner" in its first release in 1982. When Roy Batty (played by Rutger Hauer) gave his dying soliloquy (the "tears in rain" speech), I cried. Something synthetic wanted to be human, and could only find humanity in dying.

    What your your "nerd moment"?

  • Where can I buy German language DVDs in the USA?

I'm learning German and I would like to purchase some DVDs with German dialogue. Preferably, I'd like to buy some films that I know the dialogue to with optional German dubbing. I have a multi-region DVD player so it would be no problem to watch them. I've already placed orders for some German films (Downlfall, Munchausen, Goodbye Lenin, Run Lola Run), but I'd like to see some Hollywood films dubbed into German. I would also be open to any children's videos with German & English soundtracks. Any suggestions, besides ordering from Amazon.de?

  • Poll: What song gets stuck in your head?

What song, melody, or jingle gets stuck in your head to the point that you may end up screaming?

For me, it's the appropriately titled "Can't Get It Out of My Head" by Electric Light Orchestra.
