  • How can I determine what is causing strange sounds in the right front wheel of my car?

It's a 2001 Saturn SC2, (front wheel drive). I've had CV joints go bad on other cars and this doesn't sound like they did (rhythmic round). Could it be the wheel bearings?

  • My central airconditioner is having problems, cycling on and off to quickly. Bad statup capacitor?

It just can't seem to get started, it tries and stops in seconds then tries again and again. I've shut it off but how do you trouble shoot these units? I'm skilled with electrical and mechanical repair but have never dealt with a 3 ton AC unit.

  • How do I set myself up to be administator on my own laptop?

When I started it up the first time the software set me up automatically as just a user (I'm the only person who uses it). However, I've discovered that I'm not the administrator. The machine is a fairly new Toshiba Satellite running win 7. How do I upgrade or change myself to be the administrator?

  • I can't access some files from an old hard drive. My current computer says I don't have permssion?

The drive was removed from an old laptop when its mother board died (win 97-98?) and put in a small case so it could be used as an external drive. When I access it from my current (win 7) laptop it tells me I don't have permission to access some (not all) of the .JPG files on the old drive. I believe it expects me to be the "administrator" before it wall allow me to access the old files.

I'm the only person that uses the new computer, I've never set up a second user (or administrator). How do I open these old files?

  • Achilles tendon is swollen and very tender?

I was wearing boots and dug a large hole to repair a broken water line. My Achilles tendon became swollen, tender and it hurts to walk. This started in mid. December and has not gone away.

I can't stop walking, life requires that, I've not worn boots since.

Other note I'm on Warfarin for blood clots in my legs, hospital stay for clots in my lungs in Oct.

Could the medication be stalling healing?

  • Stuck brake caliper repair method?

My pickup had its right front brake lockup.

I started pulling to the right and then at the next stop sign I had smoke coming out of the wheel well.... I quickly pulled over and got a tow home.

I jacked it up and pulled the wheel off and then had to hammer the caliper assembly off of the disc.

How to you fix this? Do they make a rebuild kit or to you just purchase a new assembly?

  • hydraulic lifter ticking in engine?

I've recently installed a used engine in my 96 Satrun SL.

When I started it for the first time it fired right up but there is a ticking sound (I only allow the it to run a couple of minutes).

I believe this to be the hydraulic lifters.

I'm guessing the engine sat for a while waiting to be sold and the lifters might be lacking oil.

How long does it take to fill them?

Is there a way to prime them?

  • Ticking noise in my cars engine?

I recently installed a replacement engine in my 96 Saturn SL.

I replaced all the fluids with fresh material and cranked it over.

It started but there is a ticking noise that sounds like it might be in the upper right side if the engine.

I'm guessing that one of the valves might be stuck due to the time the engine sat waiting to be purchased.

Any suggestions as to other possible causes or fixes?

  • Installing replacement engine in my car?

I've pulled my old dead engine and am ready to install my replacement.

Do I need to use thread locker on the bolts?

There are many parts to reinstall, starter, alternator, etc.

  • Do I need to replace the heater core after head gasket failure?

My car made it to 227,000 miles and then the head gasket failed.

All of the radiator hoses, radiator, engine cooling channels and, I assume, the heater core are filled with oil and coolant.

I've got a replacement engine coming and am replacing the radiator and all of the hoses.

I'm fairly sure the heater core is also full of the oil/coolant mess.

Can I flush the core using a pump with detergent and hot water?

Or do I need to replace it with a new one?

  • Poison Ivy resin/sap removal?

It appears that some of my tools have the resin from poison ivy on them. I keep getting exposed to the plants even when I'm not in the area where I know them to be.

My problem is I don't know which of my many tools have the problem or how to remove it from electrical powered tools.

I would think that hot soapy water would eliminate the resin but soaking one's electrical tools in water is not the smartest thing to do.

How do I eliminate my itchy problem?
