  • If guns don't kill people, people do...?

Why are so many gun folks against universal background checks for people? If you can't limit guns or who buys them, what is left?

  • Homosexuality, old testament and Jesus?

We don't follow old testament laws after Jesus, no? If Jesus did not admonish homosexuality is it improper to selectively follow old testament laws on homosexuality and ignore all the food laws for example? Does homosexuality fall under Jesus' teaching, "Mark 7:15 There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him:"?

  • Is it "Moral" to blanketly cut all entitlement programs?

In a time when it is established that 10% of the working age population could not find a job if they wanted to, is it moral to cut benefits like healthcare, unemployment, welfare...? At this point it is not an argument of people being lazy but people wanting to but being unable to support their families. Isn't it "christian" to support those in need? Isn't it human? How can we keep a moral high ground as a nation if we end up with people sick, starving and dying in the streets while we spend trillions fight wars abroad?

  • Is 52k really an excessive average teacher's salary?

I am still having a problem understanding this. How much would be an appropriate salary for someone responsible for educating the citizens of tomorrow? Entry level teachers in WI make 30k. Is that really a lot?

  • Arguments around Teacher's salaries?

Is it reasonable to both argue that the quality of teachers is too low AND that they should make less money? Don't you get what you pay for in this society? Wouldn't higher salaries and benefits attract better candidates? Don't we want the best candidates we can buy when it comes to preparing the future leaders and innovators of our nation?

  • Muslim goal to convert the whole world.?

One argument against Islam I have been hearing lately is fear that Muslims won't be happy until they have converted the whole world. That that is their secret goal. Am I wrong in saying that that is also Christians goal? Aren't Christians told in the gospels to teach and baptize all nations? On this question/aspect are Muslims and Christians different?

  • Why has Muslim hate become acceptable?

Most people would not allow someone to make sweeping hate filled statements about all blacks, whites,or Asian peoples. Many would fight if a church or Synagogue was not allowed to be constructed on US soil. Few believe that people who kill abortion doctors, have lynched black people, or who believe the Katrina and Haiti earthquakes were a punishment from God represent all of Christianity. Etc, etc...So why is such sweeping hate for Muslims acceptable? Why are so many punished for the actions of so few and why do we accept it in a land where "freedom" and "liberty" are such oft used words? Does it not extend to all citizens?

  • What's wrong with the NAACP statement?

“We take no issue with the Tea Party movement. We believe in freedom of assembly and people raising their voices in a democracy. What we take issue with is the Tea Party’s continued tolerance for bigotry and bigoted statements. The time has come for them to accept the responsibility that comes with influence and make clear there is no place for racism & anti-Semitism, homophobia and other forms of bigotry in their movement,”

    Why is that racist?

It does not say the Tea Party movement is racist, it says that the Tea Party should not tolerate that element within their movement. Clearly there are some questionable people in the movement:

    http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/2010/07/1...

Is it racist to ask the movement to not allow that element to detract from their valid political stance?

  • Birthers: What would be the point?

Lets say Obama's birth certificate were fake. What would be the point and who would be the perpetrator? A Muslim conspiracy? Seems if they could get someone into our white house and trick the FBI, CIA and half of the American people, they would be able to set a bomb off in Times Square. Or worse...

  • Is the Tiger Brand "Too Big to Fail"?

Attendance is way up at Golfing events when Tiger plays (which means that sponsorship is way up). Does the sport of Golf and its Sponsors NEED Tiger and will that help to facilitate a quick forgiveness of his "sins"?

  • Welfare, just for the lazy?

I keep hearing people talk about how Welfare is just to pacify the lazy, I hear people proclaim for those people just to get a job, or a better education or... Meanwhile we have a high jobless rate, not to mention a minimum wage that is not a living wage.

It seems to me that unless minimum wage were a living wage, jobs were available for everyone who wanted one and higher education were affordable to all those wanted it, we would need some sort of Welfare program to help people who fell in the cracks. That is unless we liked to watch people suffer. It seems much more complicated then "laziness". Am I missing something?

  • Mystery Shopping question, Serious!?

I have known people to try mystery shopping and it sounded fun so I replied to email ad about it. They sent me my first assignment. I was sent 3 money orders for $860. I am supposed to cash them (evaluating my bank) then take out my $200 pay and transfer the balance via Western Union to two people in Manila, evaluating them as well.

This feels very suspect. I now, have $2580 in money orders in my name from some random people. I don't understand, if it were real, how they would not assume I would just cash it and run? Also, it was sent UPS from Fredrick's of Hollywood, in AZ. This all very weird.

  • Evoking the name of Hitler?

Like or dislike Obama, does anyone REALLY think anything he has done (or any US President for that matter) is worthy of evoking the name of Hitler and the Nazi's? It seems to both take away from the argument being asserted as well as the level of evil done by Hitler and the Nazis. Yes or no...Ja oder nein?

  • Chakra system incompatible with Christian beliefs?

I noticed a question about the chakras recently evoked the name of Satan and a call for Jesus. My question is whether they are really incompatible? Could it not be another piece of the puzzle. I tool for bringing us closer to a state like Jesus lived in during his time on earth? Could those not be a piece of the teachings he taught his disciples which allowed them to accomplish what they accomplished?

  • Origins of the idea that the fruit on the tree of knowledge was an apple?

"And when the woman saw that the tree [was] good for food, and that it [was] pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make [one] wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. "

-That is as much info as we get. Does anyone know the origins of the idea that it was an apple?

  • Are the parties backwards?

It seems to me that the Republican party should be the Liberal party and the Dem Party should be the conservative one, no? If the Rep party is rooted in bible values it would seem that that would have to include being caretakers for the environment and animal species as well as taking care of the downtrodden (finding it their responsibility to do so). The Dems are supposed to be a Godless party. That being so they should all be in it for themselves, being capitalists or Libertarians.
