  • Do we buy Boutonnieres/Corsages for Sweethearts dance?

I know boutonnieres/corsages for prom and homecoming are a given, but I don't recall them being appropriate for Sweethearts. Am I crazy, or is this true?

  • Poll: Good ski music?

I've run out of ideas for what to use for skiing music, and need new stuff quick.

I'm very open to genres so don't worry about that.

Just state an artist or song that you would like to ski/snowboard or whatever to. :D

  • Do park skiers require a higher DIN setting?

My DIN setting based on my measurement and ski level is about 7.5

I was told recently, however, skiers who ski the park and freestyle a lot, which I do, should have at least a 10 DIN setting.

Is this true and should I really jump up a whole 2.5 just because I ski the park a lot?

    Measurements:

    148 lbs

    5'10"

    17 years old

    Type 3 skier

    Boot sole length: 305mm

  • Are these goals realistic for skiing this season?

Last year I started experimenting with freestyle skiing and the terrain park and all that, and I quickly got hooked. This year I invested in a very nice pair of twin tipped Salomon skis and am hoping to really gain some ground in the park.

I've got a season pass to a local ski hill, you really can't ski there but the park is great if that is all you are going there for. Otherwise the black diamond is like 70 yards long...

Anyways, with the season pass I'll be trying to go 3-5 times a week for 3-4 hours at a time. By the end I really want to be able to do AT LEAST 540's and hopefully 720s. In addition be able to do some really nice spins and whatnot off rails and boxes. Is this realistic if I stay persistent with going??

**Previous ski experience consists of 10 years of skiing. I am confident with my skiing abilities, and as of now I can do 360's occasionally in the park... I am 17 years old.

By the way I'm doing the school ski club( 6 trips) and going to Colorado for 4 days of skiing this Christmas.

Thanks for anything, and advice is greatly welcomed.

  • VERY HARD PHYSICS PROBLEM! EXTRA CREDIT HELP PLEASE!?

The elastic energy stored in your tendons can contribute up to 35 % of your energy needs when running. Sports scientists have studied the change in length of the knee extensor tendon in sprinters and nonathletes. They find (on average) that the sprinters' tendons stretch 41 mm, while nonathletes' stretch only 33 mm.

The spring constant for the tendon is the same for both groups, 33 N/mm . What is the difference in maximum stored energy between the sprinters and the nonathletes?

So.. change in energy in Jewels

  • Physics problem please help! Work/Forces?

A 12 kg runaway grocery cart runs into a spring with spring constant 240 N/m and compresses it by 80 cm.

What was the speed of the cart just before it hit the spring?

  • Red Frequency Helmet: Quality ski helmet?

    http://www.backcountry.com/outdoorgear/Red-Frequen...

This same helmet is 150 dollars at my local ski store, so I'm guessing it's a pretty good helmet. The site gave it pretty good reviews, and it seemed to fit well when I was there.

But my question is will it perform well in several instances:

    1) I'm going fairly big in the park this year and want to ensure protection.

2)I'm skiing Colorado this year and need to know that it will handle the cold and that its vent system does the job.

3)And overall, will it remain comfy for extended hours of skiing?

  • Salomon Simon Dumont skis?

I'm seriously considering getting the 2008 Simon Dumont skis form Salomon. I want a ski that will propel me in the park, from jumps to boxes and rails, but also a ski that will be able to handle the powder of Colorado. Any one know if these would be good skis for me? I am fairly advanced and have been skiing for about 8 years, I'm 17.

  • Will biking 12 miles a day get me in shape for skiing?

I've heard that skiers often bike in the off season to keep in ski shape. I have a trail in my backyard that goes about 6 miles to a bridge, where I turn around and come back. It's probably about 5 days a week that I make this bike ride. Will doing this strengthen my legs for better skiing? I am already a fairly advanced skier, but hope to be ready for the Colorado trip this winter.

  • Is ~20 grams of protein from white Milk enough after a workout?

After I work out, typically 1 hour of fairly heavy lifting, near failure, I drink around 600ml of milk, which gets me around 20g of protein. I definitely am seeing results, and like the milk because it's cheaper than protein drinks, but am just wondering if I'm missing out hugely by drinking milk instead of an ACTUAL protein drink. Thank you

  • Good exercises to improve balance?

I'm 17 years old and mainly am looking for ways to improve my balance for this upcoming ski season. I have fairly good balance already, and I am a pretty well coordinated person, but I'm going to Colorado and hoping to visit both the steep blacks and the park, and just want the extra assurance that I will be able to hold it up out there. I've been in Karate for about 4 and half years, and I believe that helped a lot, but I'm just looking for some daily exercises I can do to improve it slightly more. Thanks

  • How tall should a twin tipped ski be?

I need new twin tips but am unsure of how tall I should get them. 171 cm brings it just about up to my eyebrows which, I was told, is a generally good height. I definitely want to be able to use them outside of the park as well, in intense, and steep terrain in Colorado. Should a go for eyebrow level, or even higher?

  • Is the Salomon Simon Dumont Ski (2007) a good all terrain ski?

I am in the market for twin tips, and a pair that will really help me advance my skills in the park this year, but also a pair that can handle the both the intense powder of Colorado, and more groomed areas as well. Would the 2007 version of the Salomon Simon Dumont ski be a good choice?

  • If I can consistently do 180's on skis, should a 360 by easy?

I can do 180's cleanly and basically every time. I haven't tried 3's yet, and have heard that they are actually easier. Is this true? And any tips on getting the rotation would be nice. I wouldn't be doing them off of kickers until I got em down, but would try medium sized jumps

  • What muscles should I train the most for the upcoming ski season?

We are taking a long trip to Colorado to ski this winter vacation. I am a fairly advanced skier but want to be sure that I can enjoy Colorado for what it offers, and tackle the long steep runs. Just wondering what muscles would be best to make sure I don't wear myself out in the middle of the run.

Side note: Looking to really make advancements in the park as well. Does strength make much difference in the park?

    Thanks a bunch.

  • What exactly does stomping mean in relation to snow skiing, and how do you do it.?

I understand it has something to do with the landing and was just wondering if there's more to it then just stomping on the ground when you land...? Thanks

  • Why don't I have a personality?? What is wrong with me?

I am in an extremely confusing and annoying situation. As long as I can remember I have felt like I can't relate to people, literally nobody. When I was young I was of course completely unaware of the deepness of the problem but when I look back I can remember thinking to myself..."why can't I be like them" or "I'm not as cool or fun as most people". And now when I look back on my youth and even at my present day life I find that I've never really had any genuine friends. It feels as though I can't earn respect from anyone, even myself. I don't like the way I am, and don't blame people for not respecting me but I don't know how to change. All I see in people when they look at me is disappointment, and it is probably the worst thing in the world to live with. I spend plenty of time with my friends, try to be social, but it is clear that when I talk that I don't really know what I'm talking about and simply forcing myself to contribute words to the conversation. I have a big circle of friends but they really aren't MY friends. I have discovered that they are merely the friends of the couple of my childhood friends. But even my best couple of friends seem to be drifting away from me. It seems like they can become better friends with someone in a day than I am after knowing them for 15 years or so. If they all weren't so nice I probably would've been forced out of the group long ago. In times when I find myself one on one with someone it is usually one of two situations: 1) They have so much personality and so much to talk about that they keep talking and I "listen", although I rarely have an opinion that actually means anything to them or 2) it is extremely awkward as they may say a couple of things and I either can't find anything to say back or the thing I say is stupid and honestly just noise (and I am fully aware of this when I say it). The thing is I don't want to be like this. I like the people I hang out with and want so badly to be able to have conversations with them that come naturally. So often I find myself thinking extremely hard of what to say and how to say it that it wears me out and I eventually just stop talking again. Again, I am an active person, in sports, school activities, and I am pretty smart, with good grades. But the way I go about things is so damn boring that I can't talk to people about it. I want to be myself and want to have fun but I feel like I can't and I don't know how to. 17 years of my life has passed and I am starting to freak out about whether or not I am ever going to change. I feel like nothing extraordinary has happened that I can talk about, nothing I feel proud of and I'm worried that when I leave high school and my "group of friends" that I am going to be unable to find new friends, or just the same thing is gonna happen. I want to have a future with a family but if I don't change there is really 0% chance of that happening. It is an extremely depressing situation to be in because I can't stand the way I am but I can't seem to change. And trust me, I've TRIED. For the past two years at least, when I started to realize the severity of the problem, I've tried to develop a personality, but it's all forced and never genuine, and sometimes seems to work, but in the end fails and leaves me worse off than before. Does anyone else feel like this, what can I do?? Am I as screwed as I think I am for life? I can't stand to face the disappointment of my life any longer.
