What happened to brake fluid?
I know my way around a car pretty well, one thing that I'm wondering is why brake fluid went from something that only got changed when there was a catastrophic failure to something they want changed every couple of years? All of the places that want to sell you a flush throw around the word hygroscopic like they actually know what it means when trying to talk you into spending another couple of hundred bucks when your getting your oil changed. But what actually changed with brake fluid aside from companies seeing an opportunity to pad their bottom line?
10 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs3 weeks agoWire protection nail plate for rough cut 2x4?
Anyone know where I can get wire protection plates for rough cut 2x4s? Right now I'm trying to make due with the regular ones which are only 1.5 inches wide so I have to use 2 and nail them to the edges of the studs in order to to cover the whole stud and they overlap in the middle which I'm not real fond of, plus doing it that way uses a ton of them.

3 AnswersBooks & Authors3 months agoAre illuminated light switches still made?
I'd like to replace a couple of switches in my house with updated ones that are white. They are a 3 way and a 4 way light switch with illuminated switches that glow orange so you can find them in the dark. The switches if I had to guess are from the 70's or 80's and I'm having a hard time locating replacements.
4 AnswersDo It Yourself (DIY)4 months agoHow do I protect a wire in the wall?
I'm slowly wiring my house as I have time. One of the things I'm doing is after adding a sub panel I'm wiring a generator inlet to the sub panel with the interlock. The issue I'm having at the moment is how to go about protecting the 8/3 wire that comes through the wall. The wire is the outside variety with the grey outer shielding. The way I had to drill the hole to get it down to the basement means the wire will be touching the drywall or get really close to it for about 6-8 inches before it goes into the hole to head down to the basement. I'm not sure how to go about protecting it so it isn't inadvertently pierced as the house gets put back together.
9 AnswersDo It Yourself (DIY)5 months agoIs there a Chromecast That Functions More like a Roku?
I tried Using a Chromecast a few years ago didn't like it because all it did was work through my phone. Has google made a Chromecast that works more like a Roku and is a free standing unit that doesn't need a phone to work instead installing Google apps to it rather than putting the apps on my phone.
Google5 months agoWhat is the best way to reduce house racking in an old house.?
My house was built in 1880 with no discernable building standards or codes. I'm slowly gutting it and fixing it room by room, replacing the old electrical so it makes sense and doesn't make me worry about fire, replace plumbing with a pex distribution system the old plumbing had several burst pipes and leaking joints, and adding insulation since it didn't have any. My house racks quite a bit when it gets real windy out. While I'm tearing things apart what would be the best way to fix the racking issue?
7 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs5 months agoWill a cup or 2 of kerosene be a problem ?
I had to use a gas can for kerosene about a year ago there is about a cup or 2 of it still in the 5 gallon can that won't come out. Will a gas engine have any issues if I just fill it with gas with that little bit still in the can?
4 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs6 months agoIs there a light switch that can control more than 1 set of lights?
I've seen switches that do what I'm looking for for dc lights or even table lamps that have multiple bulbs but I'm looking for a single light switch that can turn one set of lights on or the other set of lights on or both sets of lights on in a living room.
8 AnswersDecorating & Remodeling8 months agoDoes an everything home insurance policy exist?
I'm wondering if there is a house insurance policy that doesn't have tons of texted and loopholes in it. A policy that fits within a couple of sentences to the effect of everything and anything is covered up to such amount with however much deductible.
7 AnswersInsurance8 months agoIs there a way to transfer to a new windows 10 machine and keep everything.?
I've been working on computers for a long time as far as I am aware there isn't a way to transfer literally everything from files to cache and cookies to a new computer. I haven't done much research on windows 10 on the matter before 10 I know there isn't any clean way to do it. I was wondering if anyone has come across a migration tool that can transfer everything to a new computer that doesn't involve cloning, windows will have a fit if I clone it to a new PC and I'm not sure how well it would handle all of the driver changes likely be a mess and not run very well.
5 AnswersSoftware9 months agoWhere can I buy bulk windows 98 laptops.?
I'm currently looking for places to get 6 to 10 identically configured windows 98 laptops. When I was in college a bunch of my friends would drag our desktop pc's to a friends and have a lan party and play games all night, I'd like to do it again. I figure if I used laptops with a monitor and keyboard/mouse I could save on space when put away.
2 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks9 months agoShould I use lag bolts or wood screws?
I'm redoing my house due to many issues including plumbing. When I took out the ceiling below the upstairs bathroom I discovered they took out massive chunks of the floor joists so I need to reinforce them. I'm going to drop the ceiling a little so I can run plumbing correctly. Should I use lag bolts to secure the reinforcement beams to the old ones or can I use deck screws?
4 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs10 months agoHow do I fill a prescription in Canada?
Found out my cat is diabetic last week got her insulin filled locally which was 300 dollars. I know its 35-50 dollars in Canada which is about 30 minutes to the boarder. I'm trying to get this figured out for when the boarder opens up again hopefully before I need to get it again. I can't keep spending that much I have to get the cost if I'm going to beable to afford it.
2 AnswersOther - Canada10 months agoHow do I fix the lines from my oki c5800 printer?
I have recently developed lines when I print with my oki c5800 which stems from missing cyan. I have tried cleaning out the printer no dust on the drums or anywhere else I can see, drums looks normal replaced the toner cartridge since it was leaking anyways. Not sure what I'm missing that would be causing the missing cyan lines. If anyone knows the oki printer and can guide me to what I'm missing I would appreciate it.
Printers1 year agoAnyone with nerve pain from a back injury know of a different medication than Gabapentin or lyrica without the weight gain.?
I've been on both, and gained 50 -60 lbs since starting on them, was wondering if anyone has had any luck with any other medication for the nerve issues and either hasn't caused weight gain or was able to go back to pre Gabapentin or lyrica weight. I'll ask the doctor about any suggestions I get next time I see her.

I was wondering if anyone has come up with a powder or something that can be put in the carpet that changes color when a cat pees on it. I was thinking something like the chemical pools use to catch people who pee in the pool?
3 AnswersCats1 year agoAt what point have I unsulated a wall enough where I start to get less heat loss.?
Maybe someone can tell me, I have an old house I've got torn down to the studs in spots. As I insulate I have been wondering at what point does my insulation and heat loss start to balance so further insulation starts to reduce heat loss. I'm sure in the beginning the heat loss over the area of uninsulated wall is such that even though I add insulation the amount of heat loss hasn't changed, I'm curious at what point does it start to change. I might be over thinking it or I might be wrong but I'd appreciate it if someone with more physics and math knowledge than I have could explain it.
9 AnswersEngineering1 year agoWhere can I get examples of inspiration boards and exactly how to make them?
I am a realist borderline pessimist by nature. In business class due in a week and a half 2 weeks I have to make an inspiration board to turn in, it has a pretty heavy weight to it. Unfortunately my teacher sees an inspiration board as a positive thing and that is what she wants. So I need to figure out how to put together a steaming pile of lies that will get a half way decent grade. To me inspiration comes from poverty, crippling debt, the bad choices I made earlier in life, the pain I feel everyday due to a messed up back and the accompanying hate I have for the pain, and not wanting to loose my house because of back taxes. For me inspiration comes from not wanting to continue my life of struggle. It isn't enough to put some happy stuff on a board and call it inspiration there is also a presentation so I need to beable to spew forth excrement even it it means I am unable to be who I am for the sake of the grade, I am not a person who sugar coats or puts things in a positive light so this isn't something that I am familiar with or how to make it. Any help would be appreciated.
