I live in Quebec (notice the accent), abnormally love cats (for a men) and have a Cat behavior consulting company call EDUcatOR. We're very implicated in our community to try and educate people and make them understand that a lot of problems with cats are easily solvable so that less cat get abandoned. My wife and I live with 4 beautifull cats, a beautifull Tortoiseshell lady, a persian and two MaineCoon, Kira and Wooki (that's him as my picture), who are trained to help us to get people's attention when we do public consulting on cats in pet shops and vets. They're also fantastic with elder people which we visit once a week in a nearby hospital. I work as Marketing Manager for a printing compagny in Montreal.

  • Would you adpot - Blind cat Savannah Snow?

In entry, you must know that I have a small cat behavior consultant company, working with my cats. Some comes with me to be pet in hospital (zootherapy, zooanimation), other comes in conference I give on feline behavior.

One of my customer, a breader, is offering me a superb 6 month old Savannah Snow (a Savannah but white with blue eyes). The only thing is that she as cataract and will probably be blind soon. She's fixed

We already have 3 cats and another one is coming soon. She would be well treated but I'm wondering IF SOMEONE HAS A BLIND CAT AND HOW IS HE/SHE DOING

I also want to know if there could be MEDICAL COMPLICATIONS with cataract infection. The breader said that his vet said there is nothing else behind that infection. What should I check for?

  • Cat not eating - Vet opinion needed.?

Our 16 years old Female cannot eat. For weeks now, we see that she has some difficulty to swallow and it looks like it's getting worse. When she breath deeply, we hear a growling sound. She constantly swallow her saliva. We don't believe it's an hairball stuck there.

She does not seem to suffer as her behaviour has not changed. She wants to eat but everytime she only take the juice out of the canned food. She drinks normally.

Now she has a serious heart condition that could be fatal if we expose her to extreme stress and going to the vet is going to be extreme stress. So going to the vet means she's going there as last resort and once there, anything more than a pill to take care of something will mean the end. She's overweight (18lbs) so we know she can run on her reserve for a while.

WE want to know if there are benine illnesses that could explain that or should we begin to think that's it's the end.?

  • Slightly pull the kitten tail for a punishment?

I've been doing consultations on cat behavior problems for a couple of years now but yesterday, a customer showed me a book (I don't remember the title nor the author) saying that, for punishing a kitten, you could slightly pull on the base of his tail.

Now I doubt VERY MUCH that it's a proven method because I've never red something like that in all the books I have and I've never seen any cat mother doing this to their kittens so why would it work when a human do it?

But out of curiosity, did someone heard of this method and if so, what's the behavioral analysis behind it.

    THank you

  • Plastic vs polycarbonate glasses lens?

Here are some preconception I've eared while shopping for a new pair of glasses that I need to be sorted out

    1) Optometrist that claim that polycarbonate lens are not worth it say that because they are not equiped to do so in an economic way.

    2) Polycarbonate should be use only with 3.0 prescriptions type and more otherwise it's not worth the cost

    3) Is it true that Plastic lens are fragile and can break easily depending of the type of frame they are mounted on (nylon wire or when pearcing required in the lens)

    4) Should I invest in Polycarbonate lenses or shoud I go for the more economic plastic lenses

  • Inversing Power supply polarity - Can it damage

I just bought a device with no power supply. The instruction manual state that it needs a DC 9V put I don't see any polarity indication (in the manual or on the device itself). If I try one polarity and it is not the right one, can it damage the device?

The device is a Rolan V-Drum Brain Module TD-3 if it has any importance.

  • Urine odor on sofa - cleaner?

One of our cat peed on our sofa (tick cousins pillow). I've use about 5 differents product with enzyme elimination, bacteria, oxygen actived, waited 24 hours, did it again, got the sofa outside......I've done it all but none of them made the odor go away completly. The area to clean is rather large 2 feet square.

Any miracle product you people used that REALLY WORKED (please no "I've eared of") that I can buy on the internet or here in Quebec (canada). Thanks

  • Today's date in Excel - keep the date?

I'd like to have today's date automaticly entered in a cell when you add a line(that I know how) but I'd like that date to stay what it was at the time of entry.

Basicly we're creating a list for our sales people where they have to log their job and we'd like to know when they've entered it (date and time) without them entering it (so that they can't cheat.

    Thank you

  • Do you need a Maincoon specialized vet?

While trying to find a new Vet we've been told that Maincoon are just like normal cat and you don't need specific knowledge in order to threat them. But is this true or they just want our business?

The Maincoon is somewhat special (in size and behavior) than normal cat. Their development is slower (reach their full size at 3 years old) and have significant physical differences. We have a 4 month old Maincoon who's breathing 30 times a minute when sleeping but he plays and run normally (even more than our other cats at his age). The vet was vague on the prognostic and was suprise about his weight (7pounds) which we think is normal. So should I try to find a Vet specialized in Maincoon or it really ain't that different from a normal cat

  • Breathing too fast???

We have a 4 month old 6,9lbs Mainecoon kitten and noticed he was breathing at 35-40 breathe per minute. The Vet told us that it is twice as fast as normal anit could indicate something else (asthma, Cardiac disfunction). During the first two weeks when he got home, he was sneezing a lot but is OK now. He also vomit twice during the first 2 weeks but we think it's because he eat something bad (he eats everything he finds: Dust, piece of paper, littel grain...anything).

He also have very smooth poo but for that one we think it is the new food we bought because one of our other cat also has the same symptom. The Vet said it could also be worms but since he was treated against it twice the possiblity are remote. Nevertheless we will proceed with a third treatment to be on the safe side.

Other than that he plays a lot, run all the time and seem perfectly right

is the Vet over cautious, trying to make money with me or what?

  • New kitty food vs old fat cat food?

Here's our dilemma. A new MainCoon kitten is about to enter our house where we already have two cats used to have dry diet food lying around all day + canned food at night. If we leave the diet food lying around, our new kitty will surely eat it and it would not be good for him. On the other end if we put kitten food lying around, our a-bit-too-fat-cats will eat it and get fatter.

We would like to avoid having to remove the dry food lying around and just having meals at specific times since our current cats are not used to it and I'm curious if any one has an idea

  • Help with a name for Maincoon Kitty?

A new MainCoon male kitty will arrive in the familly in 3 weeks. Please help us with a name. In the past we've named our cats with fantasy name (Maïka, Shahel, Sabreha) but male names of the kind sounds a bit rough and more suited for dogs. we are open to other suggestion though

Here's a photo of kitty and his father (The second one) and he will probably look like him in 3 years. He his a Brown-Creme classic Tabby.

    http://www.mainecoon.ca/Maine4-5.htm

    http://www.mainecoon.ca/Maine2.htm

Remember that MainCoon are enormous cats (twice as big as normal cat) with big-long lynx tipped ears and long puffy tail

Here's a little bit about us : We both play music (guitars, piano, drum), we love science fiction shows (like Star Trek), fantasy novel-movie (LOTR), astronomy, poetry, history (egypt, greek) and theater classics. We are both ballroom dancers (high level) and we are known for our creativity in everything we do.
