  • Feeling unsettled & disturbed?

Why would God answer a selfish, wicked prayer? A relative of mine has for the past few years admitted to me that she has always encouraged her teenage daughter to have sex so that she could become a grandmother. She loves children and feels lost now that all of her own have grown. I have been praying for the past few years that God would lead her to understand this requests was not only selfish, but against the lifestyle God expects us to live. I receive a call this morning from her that she is rejoicing because God has answered her prayers. Her 18 yr. old unwed daughter is pregnant. I have to admit I felt somewhat resentful, not only because she obviously still doesn't see the wrong in this. But a part of me feels rejected by God because my husband & I have been trying to conceive for the past 8 years with no luck. We have prayed for a child in our lives. We both have no children from previous marriages and relationships. We have always been faithful to God and choose to live by his word. I decided to wait until marriage to have children, which I know was the right choice. Yet, in some small way, I feel punished. And my teenage relative is rewarded for her promiscuous lifestyle. Her mother, rewarded for unGodly requests. Why is this? What possible message could God be sending me?

  • Am I being considered for the position...?

or am I being turned down? I recently applied online for a position at a local company. My resume and application status was 'pending' for around 2 months. As of last week, the status changed to, 'Thank you for your interest in our company! At this time we have all the information we need'. That's it, no other details on their answer.

Now, I'm confused. Does this mean I've been turned down? Or does it mean my application is being reviewed? Their website states that they will not take calls or allow you to email them inquiring on the jobs they are hiring for. Yes, that is correct. I have researched this thoroughly, because I would contact them to ask this question otherwise. It is a large, national corporation. They are hiring over 200 people for a new facility they have added to the company. The hiring phase is for 3 months, ending in December. Does anyone know exactly what they are saying? I sure don't.

  • Did I kill my flower seeds?

I planted some flower seeds in germination trays 3 days ago; zinnias, lobelia, dahlias. I mixed my own soil; vermiculite, pelite, peat moss. I planted them in moistened soil and covered the trays with plastic. The trays were outside in partial shade. The first two days were fine, and the soil has continued to stay moist. I have only had to spritz water on them a couple of times. The only problem is I was out of town last night and the temperature dropped to 41 degrees. I am now afraid that the cool temperature may have killed them. I hadn't realized the temperature would drop so low, otherwise, I would have brought them inside before leaving home. What is the minimum temperature these sort of seeds can withstand? And is there a chance they will still grow? BTW, they are indoors now since the temperatures are going to be in the low 40's a few nights this week.

  • Hired, then fired on same day?

My husband went through an employment agency for a job. He was set up an interview with a local company that specializes in his field of work. He was told at the end of the interview that his resume was impressive due to 25 years experience and that he had the job and could start next week. They also said he would be scheduled to take a drug screen tomorrow and would be in touch with him. He received a call from the owner (not the person that interviewed him) and was told that they would not be able to employ him because the employment agency required payment from them since he was hired. Then the employment agency called my husband and said that since he was under contract with them, he could not legally apply at the company on his own until 6 mos. from now. The employer has scheduled another person to interview tomorrow morning for the position that was supposed to be his. We know this because it happens to be a friend of ours that worked with my husband that had called them today inquiring on any open positions. Imagine our shock when we found out it was the same company he was interviewing with. My husband was told he could sue them for breech of contract but he never signed anything to start employment. He was only told verbally that he had gotten the job. He had not even done the drug screen yet. I was always under the impression that you aren't legally hired until after you fill out the tax forms. Personally, I think when the owner realized someone was coming in that was NOT through an agency that requires payment, he decided to back out of hiring my husband. You can't tell me this guy didn't KNOW he had to pay an agency if they hired one of their applicants.

Question 1: is there anything my husband can do legally?

Question 2: Now, I understand WHY the agency doesn't want him to go apply on his own but can they stop him legally? Please advise!

  • What is the best zoom lens for an indoor concert?

I am attending a Keith Urban concert at Philips Arena in June this year. I am planning on taking photos with my Canon Rebel XTI / 400D. The only lens I have now is the EF-S 18-55mm lens that came with the camera. I have been looking into buying a good zoom lens for the past few mos. & I've decided I definitely want to purchase one before the concert. I've been researching the Canon EF 70-300mm f4-f5.6 IS USM lens for some time now and think that it is appropriate for my needs. What can I expect with this lens from a distance of around 250-270 ft with low light, although I expect the stage to be well lit. I will not be using my flash. I want a lens that will zoom in enough to get good close up photos. I have included a link of a 3D view from our seats if you'd like a better idea of how far. I'm not the best at determining distances. If this lens is not good for this kind of photo, what would you recommend? Serious replies only, don't tell me to take a point&shoot. I am taking a point&shoot camera but I don't plan on taking the close up photos with it. And also, I have already spoke with reps from Philips Arena and my camera is allowed.

  • I think my husband is afraid of dishonoring his family?

It's a little strange, it's not like your normal devotion to your parents would be. He acts as if nothing his dad says is ever wrong. If I contradict anything his dad has told him, he swears I'm wrong even if I show proof of being right. For instance, if I tell him you don't mix whites with darks when you do laundry, he'll say my father said it doesn't matter and my father would never lie to me. Then if I show him what the detergent box says, he'll say he doesn't care. It's rather pathetic to me that a person would choose to be ignorant. And this is common, it always pertains to daily activities or knowledge of history, etc. He thinks that by telling me he sees that I was right afterall, that he is dishonoring his father and that WILL NEVER happen. No matter if I'm his wife or not. I have respect for his parents and have never competed with them on any terms, but he tries to make it seem as if I am making him choose between us if I debate any issues that involve hearsay of his parents. BTW, his parents & I get along great and have never had differences with each other. The only thing I can think this would stem from is that his last marriage lasted 15 years and he put his wife before his family and only visited them on holidays. They were hurt by it and now he feels he must do the right thing by them. The thing he doesn't understand is that I'm not his ex-wife and I don't think he should only be devoted to me and nobody else. So why does he try and create that friction? I'm a good person and wouldn't dream of selfishly making myself his only priority. Why can't he come to terms that everyone is human and his dad is not ALWAYS right?

  • Pics disappeared from laptop!!

My cousin has a Zune and wanted to use my laptop to download some songs. She doesn't have a computer at home so I agreed (big mistake)! I downloaded the Zune software and we apparently overlooked an option to download photos from my computer. I'm certain we never checked any options for it to download pics. Apparently, the box was already checked and we should've unchecked it (way to go Zune!). Trust me when I say, ITunes NEVER did this to me! When she unplugged the device from my laptop, she had about 1500 of my pics on her MP3 player. We plugged it back in and found an option to remove the photos. It clearly stated, "Would you like to remove photos from the device?" Of course, I clicked yes and even thought this was safe because it stated, "from device", not "from hard drive". I read it again before clicking it! After we removed the pics from her Zune, I couldn't find them anywhere. I still can't find them. It didn't put them back where they were, my Kodak software. I NEVER clicked any options approving the pics be deleted from my hard drive! I AM POSITIVE OF THIS! Where could they be? This is driving me crazy and unfortunately I had never backed the pics up (another BIG mistake on my part!). Does anyone have any suggestions of where they could possibly have gone? I know they aren't in any of my media software. I've already checked. I'm not a computer wiz so I may just not be looking in the right place(s). Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated. And please don't criticize on how I should've, could've, etc. That would be stating the obvious. Lesson learned.

  • What is your opinion on the increase in gas costs?

What state are you in and how much per gallon do expect to see by 2009? I'm in GA, and I heard that it will hit $5/gal by the end of the year. I'm curious how much truth there is to this, but it's looking more like a reality thank I've ever thought in the past. I'm only lucky because I live 1 mile from where I work. And I already walk to work. But my husband & I had previously planned on moving to a place that would allow us to increase our savings even though I'd be further from work. Now, that plan has been put on hold. Due to the increase in gas costs, we would end up spending more. And before you say I'm whining, I assure you I'm not. I consider myself one of the lucky ones since I'm so close to my job.

  • Need good ideas for naming our mock saloon...any ideas?

My husband is building an entertainment center in the likeness of an old western saloon. At the top we're going to paint a sign with the name of it. We thought it would be cute to play on the word 'brews' since our last name is 'Bruce' but I want something better than just 'Brews Saloon'. All ideas welcome, and appreciated!

  • Am I due a refund from my health insurance company if...?

My insurance dropped coverage on my husband after they said I couldn't prove we were legally married. They asked that I send my tax documentation filed for 2006 proving that I filed as married. This is impossible, since I only file taxes every 3 years. I offered to send a marriage CERTIFICATE, not a license, and they refused. The reason they are requesting proof is because my SS card still has my maiden name on it and until I have that changed, my payroll with my employer is under my maiden name. But that's a whole differenct story! They said they can only accept the tax documention they requested. So, now they've dropped him and I've been paying on his coverage for a little over a year now. Is this crazy?!!! I think I should get my money back considering I CAN prove we are married but they won't accept the form of proof!!!!!!!! If I'm not due a refund, then should I take them to court?

  • Landlord from hell!!! I just needed to vent...?

We had a plumber repair a leak in our bathroom. We were told there was a leak in the hot water pipe behind the water heater. Our landlord told us to go ahead and pay for it and she would knock it off rent. We couldn't afford to pay for it and told her to schedule it and pay for it. She said as soon as she could afford it, she would. So a month later, we get our power bill and it is $200 more than usual. We asked her to split the cost because the hot water drip hasn't been fixed yet and this is her responsibility. She insist that the drip cannot be to blame that we must have turned the heat up last month when we had a cold front. What? Anyway, she continued to argue the facts and hung up on me. The electric is in her name so until she pays half of it, we won't pay a dime. I can't believe she is not accepting responsibility for this!! Our power usually runs $80 to $120 depending on what season it is. She knows we didn't run our power bill up to $290 by turning on the heat for 3 days!!!!

  • Why are some of my windows small on my monitor?

My home page is full screen. Some websites (the majority of them) are full screen. However, when I click on some sites, the window gets real small even though I have my windows set to full screen. I know it's not the website because I am going to websites that I have visited before. This has been happening a lot in the past 2 days. I notice this happens on MySpace as well. At times though, it is full screen. What is causing this?

  • Who sings the song 'The Gift' other than Garth Brooks?

    This is the first verse,

"A poor orphan girl named Maria

Was walking to market one day

She stopped for to rest by the roadside

Where a bird with a broken wing lay

A few moments passed till she saw it

For it's feathers were covered with sand

But soon clean and wrapped it was traveling

In the warmth of Maria's small hand"

This is played often on radio stations during the holidays and I don't know the name of the artist. But I'm not referring to the same song by Garth Brooks. It sounds like a woman or a yound child singing it.

  • I can't exit/close programs.......?

Everytime I get online, I cannot exit out of any programs or windows. I end up having to 'End task' with Windows task Manager just to exit and that closes everything so that I have to repeatedly go back online. I am experiencing the same problem with Outlook when I look at my email. This has been happening the past 3 days, and I don't understand why. Any clues to why or what I need to do about it?

  • Rude Sister-in-law!!!!!?

My husband's sister doesn't like me (reason unk) and everytime I am around her she makes sure I know it. When I make conversation with her she either stares as if I said nothing or responds with, "Yeah" or "OK". Sometimes she will blatantly just make a smart remark in front of the whole family in order to embarass me. I am still kind to her, but I am also at my boiling point. AND my husband says nothing and makes excuses for her like, "Oh she's just like that!" or "She's just in a bad mood." But I don't believe in treating people that way. I would probably respect her decision of not liking me if maybe she would justify her reasons. And I'm POSITIVE I have done nothing to offend her. It's been this way since I met her. She actually said absolutely nothing (just stared at me) the first time I introduced myself to her. She even once told me not to bring any food to a family Christmas party and when we showed up, it was a potluck dinner. I was the ONLY person without a dish!!! Any advice?

  • Creative ideas for marriage proposal.......?

My cousin is going to ask his girlfriend to marry her. He doesn't want it to be public and he wants to do it as soon as possible without spending anymore money (he's broke after buying the ring). They live on a farm with horses, and he can only come up with putting the ring (in the box) inside the oats and when she's scooping the oats out of the barrel to feed the horses, she would find it and then he would propose. He says he can't think of anything else but I can tell he's clueless as what would be good and original. Any really creative ideas? Note: he doesn't want it done in front of anyone, just the two of them.

  • Legal advice, please!?

I was told over 10 years ago, that if I surrendered a vehicle my outstanding balance would be dropped. I was told someone would contact me with directions for delivering the car. I never signed anything, this was a verbal agreement before a hearing (not before a judge) with a FMC rep. I was told I didn't have to attend the hearing, that I could leave. Three weeks later, they reposessed my car and stuck me with the past due balance. When I contacted them, they said (of course) they didn't show any records of such a verbal agreement. I didn't even have the name of the woman I discussed this with at the hearing, the entire conversation took less than 15 minutes. I am sure they either knew what they were going to do all along or decided to reposess anyway since I (ignorantly) did not get this agreement in writing! I never got a lawyer because I thought it was a losing battle. Do I have any rights? They are still asking me to pay this bad debt.
