Is Hal Lindsey misinterpreting Ezekiel?

Lindsey believes Gog-Magog will happen soon based on his interpretation of Ezekiel 38-39. A careful Bible student should see that Gog-Magog happens at the end of the millennium, see Rev 20:7. Ezekiel 36 to 48 all take place during the millennium. The millennium Israel is the fulfillment of what God promised Abraham, not the Israel that we have today.

36:8-11 Israel will be SOWN, MULTIPLIED, settle after OLD ESTATES.

36:20 Jews still profane the name of Jesus Christ. They won’t during 36.

36:23 The heathen shall KNOW the TRUE NAME of God. Not yet!

38:8 This will be in the “latter years” when Israel is “brought back from the sword”

38:11 The “dwelling without walls” is not Israel of today.

Chapter 37 is NOT figurative Israel being reborn. Ezekiel 37 is LITERAL descendants of Israel being resurrected to live with Christ and the Church. Read Ezek. 37:12 then Isaiah 29:16-24, 49:6 , 52:1-3 and 1st Cor 15:50- 54 and also Rev 11:11

Ole Hal jumped off the deep end a long time ago. His book "Late Great Planet Earth", marks him as the false prophet that he is.

I disagree with you and agree with Hal Lindsey (although I don't agree with him on all things). Here's why:

Logically, it's not possible for the invasion to happen at the end of the Millennium. First, the Ezekiel invasion comes from the North and the Millennium invasion comes from all over the entire earth. Second, the earth is radically purified soon after the invasion mentioned in Revelation, not allowing any time for seven months of burial or seven years of burning -- so for it to happen during the Millennium, the burying and burning would continue into the Eternal Order, which makes no sense.

The Ezekiel 38/39 war must occur at least 3 1/2 years before the start of the Tribulation. Eze. 39:9-10 explains that it will take Israel 7 full years to destroy all the weapons and other implements of war the invaders bring with them. Scripture tells us the Jews will flee to the mountains (probably Petra) when the Antichrist breaks the 7-year covenant at its mid-point (Matt. 24:16). Therefore, the destruction of these weapons would not be possible if there were not at least 3 1/2 years between the invasion and the Tribulation's beginning. How can the Jews be both burning AND fleeing? It's just not possible.

As for Ezekiel 36 and 37 applying totally to the Millennium, I also disagree. These Chapters are prime examples of what theologians call "near/far prophesies." In other words, some of the prophecy is fulfilled, with the rest remaining until a later time. Verses such as Eze. 36:22-23 prove that God is speaking to Israel while it's still in its unredeemed state. Verse 25, on the other hand, tells of a day when Israel will be cleansed.

MANY modern prophetic interpretations are flawed.

Revelation states near both the beginning and end (1:1 and 22:6) the time frame in which it was to be fulfilled, yet the pop-theologians claim it describes still future events... The Greek phrase "en tachei," the same in both passages is also used in Acts 12:7:

Acts 12:6 It was the night before Herod was going to bring him to trial. Peter was sleeping between two soldiers. Two chains held him there. Lookouts stood guard at the entrance. 7 Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared. A light shone in the prison cell. The angel struck Peter on his side. Peter woke up. “QUICK!” the angel said. “Get up!” The chains fell off Peter’s wrists...

Isn't it obvious that the angel intended for Peter to wait around a few years before leaving the cell? ... Didn't think so.

... That SAME URGENCY is expressed in telling THE ORIGINAL RECIPIENTS of Revelation WHEN God was going to RESCUE THEM from the persecution they were suffering.

Why do so many Christians IGNORE the CONTEXT of Biblical prophecies which is essential to PROPERLY understand them?

The KINGDOM of God is NOT an EARTHLY KINGDOM.

The CLEAR language of several passages make it clear that today's pop-theologians are making the SAME MISTAKES that the theologians of 2000 years ago made in assuming that the PURPOSE of Messiah was to build an EARTHLY kingdom. It WASN'T EARTHLY in Jesus' human lifetime and WILL NOT BE at his return.

2Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The HEAVENS WILL DISAPPEAR with a roar. FIRE WILL DESTROY EVERYTHING IN THEM. God will judge THE EARTH AND EVERYTHING IN IT. 11 SO EVERYTHING WILL BE DESTROYED. And what kind of people should you be? You should lead holy and godly lives.

Mark 9:1 Jesus said to them, “What I’m about to tell you is true. Some who are standing here will not die before they see God’s kingdom coming with power.”

John 18:36 Jesus said, “My kingdom is not part of this world. If it were, those who serve me would fight. They would try to keep the Jews from arresting me. My kingdom is from another place.”

37 “So you are a king, then!” said Pilate.

Jesus answered, “You are right to say I am a king. In fact, that’s the reason I was born. I came into the world to give witness to the truth. Everyone who is on the side of truth listens to me.”

1Corinthians 15:50 Brothers and sisters, here is what I’m telling you. Bodies made of flesh and blood can’t share in the kingdom of God. And what dies can’t share in what never dies. 51 Listen! I am telling you a mystery. We will not all die. But we will all be changed. 52 That will happen in a flash, as quickly as you can wink an eye. It will happen when the last trumpet sounds. The trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised to live forever. And we will be changed. 53 Our natural bodies don’t last forever. They must be dressed with what does last forever. What dies must be dressed with what does not die.

... Sorry for how long this is getting, but there are lots of misunderstandings of the things the Bible has to say about God's kingdom. Simply, it is NOT an EARTH-BASED kingdom and NEVER will be.

MODERN ISRAEL is NOT the subject of Biblical prophecy.

Hal Lindsey predicted (prophesied) the rapture would happen by 1988.

That year has come and gone. Hal Lindsey is still among us, so that leaves only two possibilities.

Either the rapture did not happen, in which case he is a false prophet. The Bible tells us that if anyone prophesys a thing that does not happen, then he is a false prophet and we should not listen to him. (Deut. 18:22)

So if the rapture did not happen, then Hal Lindsey spoke "presumptuously", and we should not listen to his teaching about Christ because he does not speak from a knowledge of the truth.

The only other option is that the rapture happened just like he predicted.

If this is the case, then Hal Lindsey was "left behind" because he is still here.

He teaches that at the "rapture" that the followers of Christ will be taken away and the evil would be "left behind".

No matter which of the above is true, Hal Lindsey has proven himself as one who we should not follow!

    Is he still around????

That guy's made an entire (bogus) career of predicting "the end times". The Late Great Planet Earth was popular when I was still a church attending teenager in the early 1970's.

He joins the ignominious ranks of countless other failed Christian "prophets" dating back almost 2 millenia. It's a pretty bad track record. When will you people finally figure this out? Revelation is hallucinatory allegory written about the Romans. Jesus Christ very likely never existed, he is an idealized hero-myth. If he did exist, he was just another mortal human, and his bones have long since turned to dust. He isn't coming back. Sorry kids. The truth kind of sucks sometimes.

I agree that it is after the 1000 year rein of Christ that Satan is let loose again. But I do believe that the current day literal fulfillment will be when the governments turn on false religon all over the world of mankind. Devastateing it and destroying all religon. The jews were cast off as God's people and they are talking about spiritual jews.(Romans 2:28-29) 28 For he is not a Jew who is one on the outside, nor is circumcision that which is on the outside upon the flesh. 29 But he is a Jew who is one on the inside, and [his] circumcision is that of the heart by spirit, and not by a written code. The praise of that one comes, not from men, but from God.

(Revelation 7:9) 9 After these things I saw, and, look! a great crowd, which no man was able to number, out of all nations and tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, dressed in white robes; and there were palm branches in their hands.

(Galatians 3:28) 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor freeman, there is neither male nor female; for YOU are all one [person] in union with Christ Jesus.

I have to go with Hal on this one. I believe Ez. 36 was fulfilled last century for one thing, and Ez. 38 seems to be an outgrowth of that, not a millennium event.

    Counterpoints:

Eze 36:22 Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; I do not [this] for your sakes, O house of Israel, but for mine holy name's sake, which ye have profaned among the heathen, whither ye went.

i.e. God won't bring them back because they have stopped profaning God's name, but for his own reasons.

Eze 36:23 And I will sanctify my great name, which was profaned among the heathen, which ye have profaned in the midst of them; and the heathen shall know that I [am] the LORD, saith the Lord GOD, when I shall be sanctified in you before their eyes.

Plenty of "heathen" (gentiles) know that He is the Lord around the world. It doesn't say every single one will.

Eze 38:8 After many days thou shalt be visited: in the latter years thou shalt come into the land [that is] brought back from the sword, [and is] gathered out of many people, against the mountains of Israel, which have been always waste: but it is brought forth out of the nations, and they shall dwell safely all of them.

The Jews were "put to the sword" by Hitler and have come back to their land out of many countries.

Eze 38:11 And thou shalt say, I will go up to the land of unwalled villages; I will go to them that are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates,

What ever physical walls there may be are not going to be viewed as an obstacle by the Russians et. al. who will be shooting missiles at them.

Hal Lindsay is absolutely right. The only battle after the millenium will be one more try by Satan and Gog and Magog to usurp God but this time their will be no battle just fire from heaven and they will be gone. In Ezekial ,there's a nuclear war where people go out in special suits and put markers by the dead(Contaminated) etc.

Man, that is just too deep. Its really tough to separate out a time line here. One thing is for sure-Israel is a nation now. That was not true just 60 years ago.
