Why do cats do this????
When we pet him or when he crawls up into be to sleep with us..... he always backs his big fat kitty butt right up to our faces... it is annoying as heck....We ahve been pushing him away for years and then he will just immediately come fight back with the kitty butt....finally after pushing him away a few times he will just go lay down at out feet... what the heck is up with this.....
He is about an 18 pound male cat...and has been neutered.... andhe is about 12 years old.... he has been doing this his whole life.... drives us crazy when we are sleeping...not a nice sight to see a kitty butt right up in your face... irritating as hell!!!!

I think it is instinct to protect the face and neck areas. So you get the butt because then he can sleep with his front protected and he knows you got his back. Mine does the same thing but when I push him away he gives me the old stink eye and gets off the bed.

well, i wouldn't say that alot of cats do this, because I have had more than two dozen in my lifetime, and I've never had one like that. Every cat has its "weird thing", or even several of them. That's his. And if you have been fighting this behavior for years it sound like he's long past the point of learning something different. If your sanity is truly at stake, you may be faced with the decision of whether to keep him or give him up.

I know exactly what you are talking about, but maybe it has something to do with how animals sniff each others butts. Everyone has seen it happen, but I wonder if it is not a similar trait. "Hey look Mom, Hey look Dad, its me" (and then stick their butt in your face so you can smell him/her butt to know it is them). LOL Funny, but I bet that is why they do it!

i agree with first answer. yeh this is funny, if there is no way pushing him away you just can leave him outside the room and give him good food or something else to play with.
and IMPORTANT: give him enough attention when you are not in bed. he might feel cold for some reasons.

He wants his butt button scratched! Scratch his back, right where the tail connects to the body, and he'll stick his rump way up in the air.

if its a girl, it might be in heat, if its a boy, i have no idea
didnt read too well, its a boy..i have no idea why it does it, buy when my cat does that, i scratch her butt, and work towards the head, but i guess thats just a fetish of hers

Cats present their butts to other cats to say "hi", to show
what they've been eating, and to be very friendly.
Blow air at his butt, cats don't like this, and he will
probably stop.

He is part of your pride. Pushing him away and him going to your feet to sleep is in part, his submission to you as the leader.

Maybe it is his last chance to annoy you before he goes to sleep. He might just enjoy it..
