Strawberry Brownies?
would it work if i took brownie mix and added chopped fresh strawberries to it? or would it be a recipe for disaster? the reason i'm asking i plan on making brownies for my mom's birthday and i'll add pecans but i thought strawberries might make it more special. If they won't work inside the brownie then it's fine. =] thanks!

INGREDIENTS
1 egg
1 cup melted butter, cooled
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 pound sliced fresh strawberries, divided
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup cocoa powder
1 1/2 cups cake flour, more as needed
DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease a 9 inch pie plate.
Whisk together egg, melted butter, and vanilla in a large bowl. Puree about 1/4 cup of the sliced strawberries and whisk into the butter. Sift together the sugar, cocoa powder, and cake flour. Fold into the butter, and mix until well incorporated. Use more flour if needed to end up with a mixture in between a cake batter and a cookie dough (the strawberries will add additional moisture). Gently fold in the remaining sliced strawberries and pour the batter into prepared pie plate.
Bake in preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, 30 to 40 minutes.

They only thing you have to worry about is the brownie batter having too much liquid. You could try to reduce liquid someplace else, but I think your best bet would be to make a strawberry "sauce" or syrup with the fresh fruit and spoon some over the fresh brownie when you go to serve it. With some whip cream it would look really good and taste even better.
I would go for it. I've used this over Cheesecake, and bet it would be good here also.
1pint strawberries, cleaned and stemmed
1/3 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
Cut the strawberries in half (unless they are small). In a saucepan over medium high heat, combine strawberries, sugar and vanilla. Cook, stirring occasionally, until sauce thickens, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat, and let it cool enough to put in the blender. In a blender, puree about 1/3 of sauce, then mix back into remainder. Store in refrigerator.

Wow, that sounds good. You would need to put less liquid, like water, because of the moisture in the strawberries. Maybe you could swirl some strawberry jam throughout the mix before baking (but after the mix is in the pan) You sound like a wonderful daughter and it doesn't matter how they turn out (I'm a mom). If they come out looking just awful, you and your mom would get a good laugh and I'm sure they would still taste good :-)

Don't do it. It would be better to puree the strawberries and let people put a little dab on top of their brownie.

No, I don't think that would work. I think what would be better would be if you got a can of cream cheese frosting, stirred some chopped berries into that, and then spread on top of the cooled brownies.

They do make dehydrated or freeze-dried strawberries. However, I'm not even sure that would work too well.
If you can afford to waste, it might be worth the experiment.

i think if u chopped strawberries into it it mite just turn out ok. strawberry icing maybe? strawberry topping of some sort

that sounds pretty nasty. if you could somehow take some cake mix that is strawberry flavored and make an actual strawberry flavored brownie, i think it'd be delicious
