Why does my friend constantly refer to himself in the third-person?
Let's call him "M". "M" tends to be melodramtic at times, but he's a good friend nontheless. BUT, he constantly refers to himself in the third-person, saying stuff like, "Oh, 'M' doesn't deserve this", and so on. It can get very annoying; let me tell ya.
He's not dumb, or young.
So why the h*** does he always do this?!?!
He has a bit of a confusing personality; I don't think that it's how he acts arrogant. He DOES, however, have a constant, 'oh, woe is me!' attitude. And I'm not going to cut him loose- I've known him for six years.
...and you know, now that I think of it, he is a little absorbed with himself- he always sees himself negatively, and has to rub my face in it each time I talk to him. Any suggestions are welcome.

It's the usual way royalty refer to themselves. Your "friend" is on an ego trip. Probably because he feels inferior. Harmless, annoying, and all that but if he's truly a good friend then you'll simply have to overlook this imperfection. Or cut him loose. S'up to you.

Does he ALWAYS do this? Is he self absorbed? It's a strech, but he could have narcissistic personality disorder. Google it. It's just a little thought that came to me when you said he refers to himself in the third-person.

He probably thinks very highly of himself. Arrogant people tend to say their own name alot.
Or maybe he's just flirting? Different guys talk around girls they like in different ways.
If it bothers you that much though, tell him. Flat out say why the h*** do you do that?
I'll bet you anything the habit can be broken.

People who refer to them selves in the 3rd are usually wankers. I would associate it with a high ego of ones self importance.

im just throwing this out there, but maybe he is subconciously afraid of how critical he can be on himself and this provides another person between his body and his thoughts... ??
