Has the human mind been warped?

In the recent years, I have seen teenage girls who claim that they're fat (who are, believe it or not, underweight) and they deliberately starve themselves to get thin. I see beautiful women turn to bulimia as a way to get "skinny" and frankly, it's starting to disgust me.

How long has this..

..been considered "fat?" And this...

...be considered beautiful?

And how else have we been warped mentally?

I would say the first picture is that of someone of "average" weight, and the second is disgusting...Although, this isn't healthy either.

I think we need to get it in our heads that there is a major obesity issue globally, and many people are kidding themselves that they are a lot healthier and thinner than they actually are. Obesity is just as "warped" and is an equally damaging as other eating disorders, and far more prevelant affliction.

I agree, body image issues, and eating disorders rarely have anything to do with food, nutrition or health, but rather with the mind. I'm speaking from experience. It took me many years to get to the point at which I am, and I still struggle with body image issues daily. Warped, yes...But not just the side you're posing. The other side of the coin is just as warped...

Okay let's not blow fashion too far out of proportion here.. I know what you are talking about. And men are supposed to all be ripped Calvin Klien models driving porsches.. That's hollywood and there's nothing wrong with it just so long as a person can separate fiction from reality.

Okay your first picture is a model - nobody calls her fat, she's not even big.

Your second picture - is certainly skinny, but look at her hips - she's not unhealthy either. Just a beanpole of a girl. I think we all just need to chill out a second and take a deep breath.

Or else this warped mind claim might turn into a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Source(s): ---side note to girls who read the guy below's comments.. Actually you don't have to work out to be hot (much less everyday). Just don't trash your body and take some pride in your appearance and trust me - us guys are going to go gaga over you as you are. However, if you want the magazine covers based on appearance alone, then yes working out everyday is required.

The view is more for women than it is for men. I myself am not attracted to overly skinny women. The first picture is obviously more beautiful than the second.

Girls today are under frequent exposure to beautiful females in media who are said to be beautiful by the media. Girls who view this develop a desire to be like them, subconsciously if not consciously. The media portrays this so effectively that any deviation from this media displayed perfect figure, that a girl sees in themselves is taken seriously. A fear of not being like the media also develops in their minds and you get things like bulimia and what not due to a feeling of inadequacy, that they will not be attractive.

The truth is that there we will always find something wrong with appearances. It does not matter if your skinny or not. We are imperfect beings and will always remain so as long as we are in this dimension.

If females ever read this, all you need to do to be attractive is exercise everyday, eat what you want as long as you eat plenty of healthy foods as well in combination with sufficient exercise.
