My name is John. I am CEO of MultiJKN, a private company that works with improving graphics technologies. Some questions I ask may be related to work. Some questions I ask may be related to my hobbies such as photography, fishing and some smaller hobbies. Some of my questions may be for friends or relatives, such as my 2 children, my wife and my friends I hang around with. I'd say my expertise is with computers, as I work with them all the time. I have recently changed from Windows Vista to Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid and have only had a few downs. Nothing to make me want to change back. If you believe in freedom, I also reccomend you install Ubuntu (fully) on your computer. I will happily give you advice how-to. I've always got something with me that can show me my mail, so i'll always know if you ask a question as my friend. Currently, I have one yahoo friend. I'd love more as then I can give you answers quicker and be able to socialise with you. I now have 5 characters left +

  • How do phones check battery charge?

I was staring at my phone screen (after running out of ways to procrastinate) and a question sparked in my head! How do phones know how much battery is left? almost every phone has a little sign, and sometimes a percentage, telling you how much battery charge is left. I'm just a little curious, is all! :)

  • Can I use this type of RAM?

Ok, so I have a Dell Optiplex 745, and I was reading through the tech specs on the website to see what speed/size RAM I could use. Now, this is more of a grammar question, but it quotes:

    "512-MB, 1-GB, or 2-GB (800MHz not available in 2GB DIMM)"

Now what I don't understand is what is in the brackets. Does it mean:

"I can use 2GB DIMM, as long as it isn't 800MHz?"

    Or does it mean:

    "I can use 800MHz, but Dell doesn't sell 2GB DIMM at 800MHz?"

It is quite confusing, but I've put it as simple as I can! Anyway, thanks for any help, and if you think I should, I will re-post this to a grammar area :)

  • Who owns this section of land?

I was wondering who owns these parts of land. Is it a local person? The council? I'm thinking of investing in this land, but first I would need to know who owns these parts.

Thank you for your help, John.

  • On Firefox 5, how do I set bookmarks to automatically go on the "Bookmarks Toolbar"?

Question says it all really. I just want it so that I can click the star on the address bar, and then the bookmark will appear straight on the bookmarks toolbar. I don't like having to change the location of the bookmark, as I tend to prepare laptops for the...generation who likes things simple. There doesn't seem to be a "default folder" setting, which I would like. Also, if it matters, please remember that I'm running Firefox 5, the beta edition of Firefox. Feel free to give me any instructions for Firefox 4, but if it matters, I'm running Firefox 5.

    - All help appreciated,

    John.

  • Can I ring the hospital to see if he's there?

My friend is currently in hospital with a severe case of chickenpox. I really need to go see him but I can't get in contact with him. He told me he had been hospitalised via an inbox on facebook, but I can't seem to get a reply asking where he is. Can I ring up the local hospital and see if he's there, and considering I'm 13, could I go see him? :/

  • Feel like school's caging me in...?

Today, was my third day back to school. For the last week-and-a-half I've been off. The snow kinda got to me, making me feel...not myself. But for the last days I've been back to school, i've been fine...until now. Today, I walked to school (30-35 mins) and had to stay in as the snow's poses safety risks, which i'm fine with. But when I sat down, I talked to my friends for a couple of minutes then just...froze. I felt as if everything was out of focus. Then I had a...daydream? I thought I had ran to the toilets, covered my mouth and screamed. I later realized I hadn't when I forgot where I was. I hadn't moved. The lessons in that day also seemed really hard. It was like climbing a mountain trying to concentrate.

My mam kinda unintentionally told me what it might be when she mentioned "fresh air". I've kinda had none of it this whole week-and-a-half, plus these days i've been at school. I told you how long it takes to walk to school, and it takes (on average) 100 secs for me to get to the car. 36 mins per day.I can't go out as everyone's too ill, and even if thy do come out, they always end up going in mine or someone else's house.

In conclusion, advice would be appreciated. But i'd prefer just an explanation to what exactly it is. If it is from lack of fresh air, what is the specif problem called?

    thanks for any help, John.

  • How much zoom does a lens have?

I'm getting a Canon EOS 350D for Christmas, and have already tried it on numerous occasions. The lens I got with it is, in my opinion, not very good. The quality is really sharp, but the optical zoom is really, really small. I'm just wondering how you can tell (on a websites info) how much zoom a lens actually has. The lens I currently have says it can zoom 1.3 ft.

On a second note (and for a higher rating) my price range is £150 give or take. If anyone can give me the best lens that will work with my camera, that would be great. The lens ideally would be good with long-distance shots.

    Thanks for any help, John.

  • iPod Touch 2G Turn On Problems?

I was trying to completely wipe my iPod Touch 2G *jail-broken* by going into my settings and using the "Erase all media, blah, blah" option. It had the progress bar, and when it finished, it restarted. The apple came up as expected, but then the little icon that comes up when something is loading appeared on top of the apple. From that point on, when the loading icon appears, it will just stay like that forever. I've tried re-starting it with the "power button/home button" technique and still the same thing happens.

Just for the record, I'm on Ubuntu 10.04. I have a Windows Vista laptop downstairs with iTunes on.

    Thanks for any help, John.

  • Should I get Ubuntu for my laptop?

I'm definitely getting Ubuntu. The question is more of a "will it work" question. I have a Compaq Mini 110 and it works rather well. I'm just curious as to if all the drivers will work. 1GB of ram, 1.60GHz processor, and everything else is integrated. There's no hot keys to worry about. I just need re-assurance that it will work.

P.S - Do you think I should get Desktop or Net Bookk, 10.04 or 10.10

  • Sharp tooth pains (for sister)?

"For about a week now, I've been having tooth pains. It's on my right cheek area. But only now have I been in tears over it and, even though I'm going to the dentist tomorrow, I'd still like an opinion on what it could be. It's more like a sharp pain which is so painful, I can't even put my teeth together. If you know what it could be, could you *please* give me some advice."

P.S - This is for my sister.

P.P.S - I'll be honest, my sister has a fear of the dentist. She hasn't been for more than 10 years. Don't get me wrong,[ she brushes and washes (unfortunately not flosses) ] everyday but the dentist is better than a manual toothbrush.

P.P.P.S - The bit in bracket's, don't you think it sounds like a rhyme? :)

Thanks for all the help, John.

  • Is there such thing as 4-D scan?

Now, I know there is such thing as a 2D and a 3D scan, but is there "really" a 4D scan. From what I know, a 3D scan is just 2D scans, taken at different angles and then stitched. The only 4D thing I know are Hypercubes and Motion Simulators (false advertising).

Thanks for any help, John :)

  • Bad rib pains after game of football (soccer)?

While playing football, a player came up next to me to header the ball. Unfortunately for me, the player kneed me in the ribs with " a lot" of force. At the time it didn't hurt, but now the pain is agonizing. When I sneeze, it's like I'm being shot in the ribs. And I can't bend down without discomfort. Please help as I love football.

  • Lead in friend's wall's?

My friend say's that his house (Northumberland, UK - Not Refurbished) say's he has lead in the wall. Now I'm unsure to if this is true and what concerns there are? I know that lead has a lot of toxicity concerns and he says it cuts the signal from his house. Just wondering why it might be there and if it should be removed.

  • What do you think of my idea?

I was recently looking at the idea of a maglev train. I liked the idea, as it had many benefits. Then it came to me. Wouldn't it be good if America had a maglev train right through the country. It would be faster, it could decrease traffic. But you've also got the disadvantage of price. Please tell me your thoughts.

  • Do you want America to have a NHS?

I recently asked "Why doesn't america have a national healthcare such as the NHS?". I liked the answers and have my own opinion on the situation. But now, I want your opinion. Do "you" want a NHS? Give a reason if possible, but a simple yes/no will suffice. P.S - Also comment saying if you think a petition should be made.

  • Why doesn't america have a national healthcare such as the NHS?

I live in England and I have to say that my health care is fantastic. Thanks to the NHS. Now, through my years of being a health adviser, the main problem with americans seems they don't have access to a national health care. They have to see private doctors. Having a NHS is great! So why doesn't america have one? Please reply with your thoughts and don't be nasty.
