Is there a device that will allow me to connect my computer to my TV?
I want to watch Netflix streaming on my older HD TV with RGB and DVI inputs. The single DVI input is connected to my BlueRay player with a HDMI to DVI adaptor. I have looked at the Roku device and it has only low-def S video and HDMI outputs. I have my smaller LCD HD TV plugged in to my laptop's serial output and that works great. Is there any device that connects to the serial output of a desktop and converts to the RGB input of a TV?
1 AnswerAdd-ons1 decade agoWhat was the best movie ever made?
My favorite was "The Last of the Mohicans". Script, acting, production values, directing, cinematography (incredible visuals without CGI), one of the best musical scores ever (Academy Award), but, most importantly, a gut wrenching movie plots ever.
What do you thinK?
9 AnswersMovies1 decade agoHow can it be legal to own a human being?
Even the US Constitution provides for slave ownership. How can any breathing person believe that he has the right to view any other human as property? How could this ever have been true? How could the US Supreme court protect this perspective, or the authors of the Constitution allow it? What depravity of so-called Deists or Christians have even considered this?
And, how, today, can human trafficking exist? What dark, depraved recess of the human consciousness permits this?
9 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhat is the meaning of "natural"?
That is, the answers to many questions contain the phrase that something is "natural". Yet, the "nature" of something is what it is, what is observed. The nature of lead is to be dense. The nature of fire is to be hot. This perception is descriptive, but not explanatory. Thus, to say that something is "natural" is neither explanation nor truly responsive.
What, then, is the source of "Nature" in any sense that it serves as explanation, or the answer to any question?
Most questions are either "What?" or "Why?", and to state that it is the "nature" of something or it is "natural" is no greater than to respond to the question "What is a pig" by stating that "A pig is a pig".
That is, in what philosophical sense is "natural" a valid response to any inquiry, what makes anything "natural", and how could any thing be "unnatural" if the concept merely describes the nature of the thing considered, as something considered "unnatural" has a nature?
Thus, what distinguishes "natural" as a reality sufficient for it to be a response to any inquiry?
I really don't expect many reading this to even comprehend the question. It's only natural.
4 AnswersPhilosophy1 decade agoI believe the absolute best movie ever made is "The Last of the Mohicans"... What is your choice, and why?
This movie has drama, romance, cinematography, acting, story line, and intense emotional involvement. Avatar 3D is a wonderful movie, magical and spectacular, but it did not engage me in the way Mohicans did. None of the hundreds or thousands of movies I've seen have.

I have used a similar argument before, regarding Anne Frank.

9 AnswersPhilosophy1 decade agoAtheists: Would protecting Jews from Nazis be an acceptable time to lie?
Go to the following video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DaOVPaYf780&feature...
This video uses an argument I myself have presented as an acceptable time to lie.
But, would it be just as acceptable if you were an Islamic Jihadist and the the refugee you were protecting was Osama Bin Laden?
Where is the distinction, in your atheistic viewpoint? Bin Laden is a murderer? Why do you care? No life is sacred to any atheist, so why would you care if Bin Laden is a murderer? Did the fall of the Twin Towers cost you money? WHAT? You hardly noticed. Why do you care?
12 AnswersPhilosophy1 decade agoWhat idiot invented the QWERTY keyboard?
Why are the punctuation marks all over the dang keyboard? Parentheses up with the numbers, punctuation marks sort of lower right (except parentheses), question mark ABOVE the forward slash??? Gimme a break!
The 101 key keyboard sucks! We need a better keyboard, one that makes sense!
8 AnswersOther - Hardware1 decade agoDo you think financial crimes should be treated as murder?
Millions of people have had their lives decimated while the money guys have gotten richer and richer. I'm not talking just about swindlers like Madoff, I'm talking about mortgage swindlers and AIG executives, bankers and traders, though the Madoff types should be included.
If we allot a dollar value to a human life, like forty thousand a year for fifty years, or whatever the median income is, for an average life of working, and count the theft of this sum, about two million dollars (or less!), as capital murder, do you think this might slow down the swindlers? Imagine a mortgage broker being charged not with fraud, but with murder. Imagine an AIG executive being charged with thousands of counts of manslaughter.
I think ANY crime involving a couple million or so should be considered as capital murder. Bernie Madoff would have been charged with about four thousand counts of manslaughter.
White collar crime destroys lives, leaves people homeless and unable to support their families, and prevents responsible parents from sending their children to college to provide their offspring with better opportunities. Our whole society suffers.
What do you guys think?
8 AnswersLaw & Ethics1 decade agoDoes anyone have any idea why music is so dominated by males?
I cannot think of a single classical composer that was female. Men dominated that time and place. Women were taught to sing and occasionally to play instruments. Women were not composers.
But, even in the twentieth century, men have dominated musical composition, from John Williams to Paul McCartney, from Hank Williams to Elton John, from Niel Diamond to Eminem.
There are a lot of female performers, many of them incredibly talented, but I can think of very few who actually composed significant music.
Any ideas?
4 AnswersOther - Society & Culture1 decade agoAre we certain of uncertainty?
Per Godel's incompleteness theorem, we can not prove proof. So, we are certain of uncertainty.
All that we know is contingent on some sort of faith, in the scientific method, religious faith, myth, or whatever, all of it resting on the logical platform of math, which Godel demonstrated lacked the informational content to prove itself.
How can we be sure that we are sure? How can we be sure that we are unsure?

My daughter hates money. She says that you need it, but, as soon as you get it, it is gone.
An interesting quote from another Yahoo:

7 AnswersPhilosophy1 decade agoWhy are so many car questions so vague?
People have title problems, car problems, car dealer problems, legal problems, but they NEVER get specific ("I bought a car from a dealer, and yadda-yadda-yadda"). Why not tell us WHAT they bought (the buyer of a 2006 Accord may have different expectations than the buyer of a 1986 Blazer, right?), how they paid for it, and what state they bought it in? Laws vary from state to state, and circumstances vary from car to car and even by method of payment. Why don't people get more specific?

5 AnswersCooking & Recipes1 decade agoDoes any one know the source of the words they speak?
"My morals come from compassion; my compassion from understanding. And I seek to know and understand... everything."
These, apparently, are the words of Buddha. They have the appearance of erudition.
I want to know the real meaning of the word compassion, and how it translates to a motivation.
How does seeking translate to finding? That is, is the search equal to the finding?
Is it possible for anyone to know and understand everything?
Finally, how does all this translate to a system of values, or "morals"?
4 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoHow do I adjust my touch pad?
I have a Vaio laptop that I have always used a wireless mouse with. The mouse is so sensitive that the vibration of typing causes the cursor to jump to a random place on the screen. This is very frustrating. I am thinking of going back to the touch pad. Problem is, it is WAY too slow. I want the arrow to zip from one corner of the screen to the opposite in a single swipe. How can I speed up the cursor?
OR, is there a way to reduce the sensitivity of the mouse (it is a Microsoft)?
1 AnswerLaptops & Notebooks1 decade agoCan a minor girl be prosecuted for a lesbian relationship with another minor?
A friend of mine is very worried that his 17 year old daughter is way too friendly with a 15 year old girl. The 15 year old is legally a child. If there is sexual contact, can the 17 year old be prosecuted for child molesting? America seems to be more accepting of gay relationships than ever before, but sex is sex. Is a girl-girl thing as dangerous as a boy-girl thing?

4 AnswersBiology1 decade agoIs ignorance increasing? Have we reached the point that learning is going backwards?
Evidence from Yahoo Answers:
"Is a cabbage vegatable considered a type of plant?"
Could it be anything BUT a plant?
80 % of Americans do not know the name of our current Vice President, John McCain isn't sure how many homes his wife owns, only forty percent of Americans know the name of our new Vice President, and the folks in Minnesota are barely able to count votes (see pp 32-33 of the Dec 22 issue of Time magazine).
We wonder why we are in such tough times. Stupidity and ignorance may be part of it.
