  • Home Audio 101.. got a couple speakers, what do I do now?

My parents recently walked into Best Buy and bought a rather hefty pair of speakers, and naturally they defer to me to figure out what to do with them. Despite being great at handling technology in general, I've never encountered speakers like these and I really have no idea what to do with them.

The only intermediary device (between a music-outputting device and these speakers) I know of is a mixer.. board, thing, except I'm not looking to shell out for an item I don't even know how to utilize, but I really don't know what else I'd use. To recap,

    What I have:

Two free-standing speakers with XLR and TRS inputs

    What I'm trying to do:

Figure out what to plug them into so that I can play music from a CD or other aux device (iPod, laptop etc).

All suggestions are welcome, and thanks in advance.

  • I'm thinking of this movie plot... don't remember the name?

It's a late 90s or early 00s movie iirc (I could be completely wrong, though).

The movie starts with a girl borrowing/renting a dress to attend a party, but something spills on her so the dress gets WRECKED. She's freaking out because she doesn't know what to do, until some nerd offers to pay for the dress (it's a few thousand dollars; the money was going to go to a telescope otherwise) in exchange for a huge favor:

The girl has to pretend to be his girlfriend, but she's hot and he's not, so they embark on a massive change for the guy, from clothes, hair, interests etc, until it is revealed that he's quite the hunk--throughout the movie, the girl slowly starts falling in love with him as he becomes more and more attractive, but with his newly found looks and confidence, he begins to have eyes for other girls.

Their 'fake' relationship ends, the girl is torn up, but soon the boy realizes that he misses/loves her and in the end I'm pretty sure they get back together and it's a happy ending.

Does anyone else know this movie??

  • Why can I not answer more questions?! I just wanted to help people.. and procrastinate...?

I've been a member for over 5 years, and after many, many months I got back to this website and decided to spend an evening answering people's questions out of the goodness of my heart--also out of my aversion to doing work, but that's another matter.

Anyway, the one night I decide to be altruistic and give back to the world that has done so much for me, honestly helping people who are places I have been before, this website is suddenly like "lulz sorry bro, you can't answer more questions because you haven't answered more in the past!! trolololo"

So now I can't help others, I can't feel good about myself for helping others, and I can't even use this website to procrastinate on studying for my test tomorrow.

Well you know what? Up yours too, Yahoo. :(

  • What to do this summer (games, etc)?

It's that time of year again, when everyone's indoors and gone home for the summer. And frankly, I don't know what to do with my time. I start work mid-June, but for the next three weeks I've just got time to waste.

It's probably largely going to be spent on video games (mildly depressing, but oh well), and I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations of anything new/good lately? PC games really, or something I could play on an emulator.

Not looking for something with 100+ hours of playtime, just something that'll be quick and fun and done--already finished Portal 2, I'm done with Minecraft, played as much COD as I'm gonna get through, so does anyone have any suggestions?

Hell, eve something 'outdoors' would be appreciated I guess. Or uh, something productive, yeah, that'd work too. My entire summer doesn't have to be spent wasted in front of a computer. Anything fun, inspirational, etc is appreciated.

So uh, have at it, folks. Best answer wins. :P

  • So, I installed Ubuntu and it wiped my hard drive... can I get it back?

    SO.

I had a partitioned hard drive on Windows Vista, and you know how Vista sucks... anyway, 2 years and over 200gb later, I decided to install Ubuntu to fix the problem.

And I selected an option that wiped the hard drive (I don't have a back up), and now the 250gb drive is in ext4 format.

Is there any way to undo, or undelete what just happened? I'm not looking to recover a couple .png files, but the whole hard drive.. because I know that when things are deleted, only the reference is deleted--technically the data is still there.

But now the drive is in ext4 format (as opposed to ntfs that it was on Windows, I believe..), and everything appears to be gone..

  • My adult canine tooth is loose...?

A few days ago I was eating an apple and got the apple skin lodged in between my canine and the tooth behind it; as hard as I tried, I couldn't pick it out... apparently I was missing, and had been picking at my gums.. so now the gums around my canine are loose, and so the tooth is also loose---it doesn't freely wiggle, but if I push it, it will. I'm worried, because it seems to be getting increasingly worse, but I might just be overly anxious about it getting worse...

Would this heal by itself (as I said, the gums holding it in place are loose, and the tooth itself wiggles if force is applied), or should I make a dentist's appointment immediately? I don't have insurance, and so I'm not eager to pay the dentist's fees if it's unnecessary...

    Thanks, though.

  • Would this count as Oct 31 11:59:59pm, or Nov 1 11:59:59pm?

    College application:

"Your online materials can be submitted until midnight EST on Sunday, November 1."

I'm not taking chances, but if it means tomorrow, I think I'll try and enjoy my Halloween.

  • Why does everyone feel the need to ask these questions?

I've been looking through these questions, and frankly, I'm disappointed. Most of them are fact-based questions which can be easily found on Google or Wikipedia. And yet, for some reason, people feel the need to post a Y!Answers question about Miley Cyrus' new song, or about a simple Algebra problem, or even translating English to French.

I've no idea why, is it because the general populace is too lazy to search through a couple links on Google, or because they just don't know how? It actually bothers me a lot; there really ought be more opinion-worthy questions, and less 'give me the factual answer which I could find through a simple Google search'-type of question.

  • Please answer this: Which version of Vista is better? ?

I just bought a new ASUS laptop, X83VB-X1

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9050... (sorry.. for some strange reason i couldn't find it on the asus website)

So, the problem is, the laptop came with Home Premium 64bit

I like Vista, but I'm not a fan of Home Premium because i have Ultimate on my desktop. This wouldn't be any problem except that I have Ultimate 32 bit.

I know 64 bit can't run some software, but overall it IS better than 32 bit. But Ultimate is also so much better than Home Premium.

So, should I stay with Home premium 64-bit,

or should I install Ultimate 32-bit?

It would be really helpful if you explained why you prefer whichever OS.

    Thanks~

  • What do you think about Islam?

I'm just trying to put together a general consensus.

It would be helpful if in your answer you put:

    1. Your views on Islam

    2. Your religion

    2. Your political views.

    3. The country you live in

    4. The country you were born in

    5. The country you've spent most of your life in

    6. The country you've spent the last few years in

    7. Whether you noticed there are two #2s

  • Is the problem with my power supply or with my computer ?

I finished building my computer about 2 weeks ago..

and i was using an 850w enermax psu for my pc

well, it was "faulty" to say the least. it would screech really loudly until the circuit breaker in the garage disconnected power to the outlet.

this happened twice so im in the process of returning it,

and i just bought a new pc power and cooling 750w psu

when i attach all the various cables and everything, the only thing that works is the main connnector. only a couple things turn on (lights on the mobo, light on the mouse, and the lcd poster)

nothing else happens. the fans dont even turn on.

so... would my new psu be defective

or would my old psu have fried my system or something?

please answer... because im going to be without a *good* compter until i find out whats wrong..

    thanks~
