Fellow Americans, do you feel you indirectly fund Al-Qaeda every time you put gas in your tank?
The Wikileaks released information which we always suspected: Saudi Arabia is the major funding agency for Al-Qaeda. Do you agree that the money you use for petroleum you use in your cars ends up in Al-Qaeda's hands?

3 AnswersMen's Health1 decade agoHow do I prevent Back pain while doing squats?
I just got over a bout with back pain, and I think I attribute it to doing squats. I've taking a new stretching regimen with emphasis on my hamstrings and lower back to keep my lower back loose.
I've started light on the Smith machine. Any hints to get back on the squat rack without giving me the back pain?
Sadly I was only doing 135# (3 sets x 20 reps) on the squat rack when I hurt my back.
3 AnswersDiet & Fitness1 decade agoShould I count the weight of the bar on the Smith machine when I do squats?
If so, how much is the bar? Is the bar the standard 45 lbs, and I would add my weight to it?
Thanks, -Squats Newbie.
1 AnswerDiet & Fitness1 decade agoWhat would be the best way to sell a 1997 VW Jetta VR6?
Currently, it has almost 200k, but it is decent condition. It may take a little to get the engine going, but nothing too crazy. No body work needed.
It's my friend's ride; she needs to get rid of it before it becomes rotted in the back over the summer.
2 AnswersVolkswagen1 decade agoMy heart rate monitor is higher than my 85% max heart rate, is this okay?
I am relatively new to working out and I like running on the treadmill for a good cardiovascular push. I run at about 6 mph for 30 minutes, but I bought a polar heart rate monitor because I wanted to monitor myself. I found out I was way above my 85% of max heart rate, is this okay? At age 32, I should have a max heart rate of 188 and 85% of my max heart rate is 160. I'm usually running at 170-175, but feel fine. I know if I push to 7 mph on the treadmill, I get winded quick. Is this okay to run at this heart rate?
3 AnswersDiet & Fitness1 decade agoDoes a cardiovascular based workout work the best for weight loss?
I am conflicted whether to perform more cardiovascular excercise (treadmills, ellipticals) or do a cross-train cardiovascular/weights session to lose weight in general? Most of the men's magazines mention to do a weight routine, but alot of people have told me to stick to the treadmill. What are your thoughts?
29 AnswersDiet & Fitness1 decade agoWhat would happen if you placed dry beans into a crockpot chili recipe?
I'm wondering if you can kill 2 birds with one stone and use dry beans in an all-day crockpot recipe for chili. I intend to brown the meat in the crockpot with the onions and spices, then add tomato paste, beef broth, then dry kidney beans. Would everything cook consistently or would I end up with hard beans after 8-hours of cooking?
3 AnswersCooking & Recipes1 decade agoWhat type of lifting routine is this?
When you do three sets of 10 reps, then drop the weight by 30% and do a final set for as many reps as possible.
What merit does this have on a routine?
2 AnswersDiet & Fitness1 decade agoShould I yank my money or ride it out?
I have three 4-5 point Morningstar "risker" mutual funds which have been performing well for the past 5 years, but have been slumping bad in the past year. Should I ride it out or rollover to something safer?

3 AnswersBoston1 decade agoCan someone analyze my weight loss workout program?
I am looking to raise my metabolic rate and lose weight overall.
1. 35 minute mid-to-heavy cardio workout (typically a treadmill at 6 mph)
2. Light nautilus (alternate chest and back with legs).
3. Another 20-25 minute mid-level cardio (usually elliptical with arms).
4. 10 minutes of extensive stretching.
Any suggestions?
20 AnswersDiet & Fitness1 decade agoHow do you recover completely from Achilles heels' issues?
I was developing a pretty small case of Achilles Heels before the holiday after working out (typically cardio on treadmills). I did the normal course of RICE (rest, ice, compression, elevation) for two days then stopped working out over the holidays.
The pain is gone, but the joint is extremely tight. I worry that working out (even lightly) may recreate the Achilles Heel issue. Do you have any reccomendation to overcome it?
1 AnswerDiet & Fitness1 decade agoWhy can't law enforement (FBI, State Police) perform a wire tap at the telephone company?
You always hear of these stories of police breaking into houses to perform wire taps for the 45 minutes the criminal is away from their home. Why can't they tap into the phone conversations at the telephone switching house?
I understand that some Organized Criminals may get a tip from a telephone company employee, but small time criminals and gang members would not have this sort of connections. Why can't law enforcement do their surveillance directly from these places?
4 AnswersLaw Enforcement & Police1 decade agoWhat cookbook can you NOT live without?
Assume the "house caught on fire" analogy and you could only take one cookbook, which one would it be?
BTW, mine is "the Silver Spoon" because of my Mediterrean background, I find I constantly run to it as a bible for my cooking.
15 AnswersCooking & Recipes1 decade agoCan I be sued for improper interview techniques?
In our age of litany, you always hear of companies only disclosing dates of employment in fear of being sued by former employees as opposed to other information. How can a person prove slander by a former company?
At this point, what questions are you allowed to ask? What questions are improper? How can you pose an improper question to make it possible to answer?
1 AnswerLaw & Ethics1 decade agoWhat investment level does an investor have to be to enter Fidelity funds closed to new investors?

6 AnswersInvesting1 decade agoDo you think the mutual fund Fidelity Balanced will bounce back from the current slump?
In 2002, Fidelity Balance didn't take the major hit like most other mutual funds in the same grouping. However Fidelity Balanced is underperforming as compared to others in the group in general and within Fidelity especially.
Do you think the bounce back with the current ongoing issues or will it start chronically underperforming like Fidelity Aggressive Growth has done over the past 7 quarters?
1 AnswerInvesting1 decade agoWhere do you think it's the best value to live in Boston which is T accessible?
I currently live near the West Natick T station, but I kinda feel like my life is somewhat dictated by the train schedule.
Living near a subway/trolley line would give more flexbility to my life and my finacees.
Any suggestions?
Basically we have only one car, and my job is on the North Shore (with parking). Her job is downtown, but can have issues because missing a train can cost her an hour or so.
1 AnswerBoston1 decade agoDo you think women act more conservatively in their retirement investments in general?
I think there is a myth that women act more conservatively for their investments, however the literature is written with everyone in mind to invest aggressively when you're younger, and become more conservative in investments with age. A 22-year old regardless of gender would be foolish to be placing their money in a low-yield, but safe fund.
