  • grabbing the barrel of a rifle to disarm someone...?

I m not at all familiar with guns... rifle or otherwise. But let s say someone has a semi-automatic rifle of some sort. If you grab the barrel when they re pointing it at you, to push it away and disarm them, would it burn your hands when it goes off? Or is there a moving part on the barrel of a rifle that would hurt you? I know handguns have sliders that might pinch you, but I don t know about rifles...

  • So tell me when and why I'd ever use uefi?

I was struggling to get my computer to boot last night and searching all over the internet for the right boot options in bios. My uefi was disabled and I couldn't figure out if I should have it enabled or not.

From the internet, it looks like it's something just like bios. So when and why would I use that?

  • Best car to buy used?

I'd heard that Toyota Corolas are the best to buy used because they just keep going and going. Also, Volvos, apparently. Is that true? Is that true for any Volvo? Or only certain models?

  • What should I bring with me to CarMax?

I'm going to CarMax tomorrow to look at cars. What do I need to bring? I'm a little desperate for a car and I am financially able to buy one tomorrow, but if I do, what should I have with me to complete the transaction?

  • helping an alcoholic?

I have 3 alcoholics in my life right now. Two of them have been able to admit they need help and are currently very excited to get the help they need. They're going to AA and are looking into other rehab options.

The third one, however, is still struggling to admit that he needs help, which burns me up inside because he's the one that means the most to me and the one that effects my life the most. And I want to punch him in the face. But I won't. I have that restraint. But I'm constantly fighting myself to be patient with him. I finally got him to go to AA with me (I sincerely enjoy the open meetings) and he's trying to quit drinking, but he thinks he can manage it on a casual basis. I know that's not true. I've spoken with a counselor about what he needs to do. But I have no tact, no understanding, and very little patience left for him. What frustrates me the most is how much he doesn't seem to care that he's draining my whole family. That's what makes me want to punch him. We're all trying our damnedest and he uses our resources and then shrugs us off.

Okay, I think I'm done venting.

Someone with experience on either side of this, tell me something comforting or practical or both about how to deal with the selfish nature of alcoholics. I'm coming to grips with the fact that I can't change him, but I do have to live with him. How do I manage that?

  • Visiting a Quaker Sunday meeting?

I am very excited to visit a Quaker church, but I am not a Quaker and I do not know any Quakers. I know a few things about what they believe and how they hold their services (waiting for the Holy Spirit to lead), but I don't know much more than that. Is there anything I should know about what to wear, how to act, and what to expect from a Quaker Sunday meeting?

  • Other games like Dishonored?

I loved Dishonored. I loved that I had the choice to either go into a mission guns blazing, or take the extra 5 hours to sneak past everyone without raising alarm; kill as many people as possible with hordes of rats, or kill no one--ever. And I always tried to do the latter because it was a new kind of challenge.

What other Xbox games are there like this? (besides Batman. I know of that one and I'm on the fence about it).

  • I'm interested in visiting a greek orthodox church in the USA?

I live in North Carolina and am interested in seeing how various church denominations worship. So I'm looking into visiting a local Greek Orthodox Church. But I have a few questions:

    1. Would I be welcome, as an outsider. I know some denominations are less friendly to people outside of their denomination. Would the Greek Orthodox congregation be offended at me being there?

    2. These service titles are very unfamiliar (I'm protestant). It looks like the Divine Liturgy is what I might want to attend on Sunday morning. Is that the right one?

    3. What in the world is Orthos?

  • What is the best book on special education?

I'm looking for an informative read on strategies, tips, and ideas for special needs students (in general). I am NOT looking for a book on any one specific learning disorder.

  • loose leaf tea on internet?

I'm looking for something comparable to Teavana in selection. I was hoping to find a competitor that might be cheaper than Teavana. I've skimmed through a few tea-buying websites, but their selections looked a little mundane. Nothing like the combinations that Teavana has.

I used to know a little tea house that had awesome loose leaf teas with bits of chocolate in them or rose hips and other flowers. And I heard they got all their teas off the internet. So I was wondering if anyone knew such a website with reasonable prices.

  • Your favorite vegetarian dinner?

I have a few that I really like, but I've exhausted them, it seems. Not everyone in my family is a vegetarian, so I need something to serve that would go over okay with the omnivores. But on the up-side, we're all pretty open to varying ethnic flavors.

What is/are your favorite vegetarian meals to serve your family?

  • Stronger than "thank you"?

Sometimes, "thank you" just isn't enough. But, I can't think of anything stronger to use in it's place. Someone help me out here. I'm not looking for formality, I'm looking for depth of emotion and sincerity. Grateful, indebted, honored, and appreciate are all too formal and unfeeling. And I don't like the modifiers "very much" or "extremely." They've become quite meaningless.

If the love of your life literally gave you the moon... and I mean that "literally" literally, as in the moon now belongs to you... what would you say? This isn't something to write in a note card out of obligation. This is... overwhelming, jaw dropping, "I'm not worthy" type of thank you.

We've got to have some way to express that emotion in English, right?

  • what to do with a used up compact?

I have a compact makeup container that's all used up. I'm looking for ways to reuse it since recycling isn't readily available to me. How do you reuse one of these? It's hard plastic and has a mirror. There's got to be something inventive or useful I can do with it.
