  • Need Help with Fostering Kittens?

my husband volunteers at a local animal rescue and yesterday we started fostering for them. We took in 4 kittens.(2 males,2 females). They seem to be 8-11 wks old and are a little weary of humans, although one of the males seems to be warming up quickly. The shelter has little info about them, we don't even know how they made their way to them or if they are from the same litter.

I need help with how to socialize them with both people and other cats(we currently have 3 adult male cats, and they don't really want anything to do with the kittens right now.)

  • Caring for a Northern Brown Snake?

A guy my husband works with is offering to give us his snake. He said he got it because its tail was injured and he is nursing it back to health.

So is this a type of snake that is normally a pet or are they usually wild? What do they eat? what are their basic needs?

He said he can give us everything we need for the snake. but i really don't know what all of that is?

  • My daughter's fish just had babies.?

She has 2 guppies: one turquoise and one red gold tuxedo. She also has 2 mollies: on black and one dalmation.

We went to feed the fish a little while age and i noticed there were little baby fish in the tank. they are very small and clear, all we could see what their body outline and eyes as they swam.

The guppies are supposed to both be male (but the red one has gotten really fat while the turquoise is still about the same size) and the mollies I'm not sure about, i dont know how to determine their sex. We've only had these fish for about 2 weeks.

How do i figure out which fish had the babies and how do i figure out if the mollies are male or female?

Also how do i care for the baby fish? i dont have any money right now to get a breeder for them and i have no idea what they eat.

  • we have one aggressive guppy?

about 5 days ago we bought my daughter 6 guppies, 2 turquiose,2 red gold tuxedo and 2 yellow from petsmart.

since then 3 have died. now ive noticed that one of the red ones is being very aggressive towards the others. i looked in the tank yesterday and it looked like it had been biting the other red guppies tail. when i saw him, he barely had any tail left. when i looked in this morning the guppy with the partially missing tail is missing and the turquoise guppy is being harrassed by the aggressive red one, it looks like hes biting the turquoise ones tail as well.

now im starting to think it killed a few of the other fish.

whats going on with it? why is it being so aggressive?

i dont know what gender they are.

i was thinking of going to get my daughter more fish but ones that are bigger like mollies so the aggressive fish will leave them alone. can mollies live in the same tank as the guppies?

  • My Refrigerator is Leaking from the Inside?

My fridge is a standard freezer on top fridge. ever since we moved into our apartment, there has been water leaking on the inside of fridge area(not freezer) so much so that i had to put 2 bowls in the back of it to catch all the water, which i have to dump once or twice a week. otherwise water will collect under the crisper tray or on the bottom shelf(the bottom shelf over the crisper tray is glass). it will even ruin some of our food because water will collect in any uncovered bowls or on top of cardboard-like pizza boxes

my landlord wont fix or replace the refrigerator because it states in our lease that it will not be fixed or replaced by them.

Its driving me nuts and I'm about ready to just get a new fridge.

Any idea what is causing this problem and if it is easily fixed by my husband or I?

I cannot leave the fridge off for a long period of time because we have food that will spoil and we don't have a cooler to put any of it in.

  • Having Problems with my Landlord?

Who do i call to come in and take a look at my bathroom so that i can force my landlord to make repairs? i would assume its code enforcement but i dont know. i live in connecticut.

the problems i am having is that brown liquid started to come up from the rolled linoleum on the floor. i notified my landlord about the problem April 10th. She told us she would start repairs when we left for north carolina. We left to visit family April 22nd and came home april 29th. when we came home all they did was cut the linoleum out around the toilet and put in a new wax ring in the toilet. after they did that they nailed down a mat over the cut linoleum and left it that way.

what she told us while we were out of state was that a plumber came and looked at everything and said the floor would need a few days to dry out before a new floor could be put down ( There was also 3 layers of linoleum under the top layer of it.)

It is now May 15th and they haven't done anything else to fix the problem. Her excuse is that she is waiting for us to be out of the house for a few days so she can fix the floor.

I emailed her today asking when the floor would be fixed because I was worried that mold might start to grow, and since i have a 3 yr old daughter and am 8 months pregnant, i am worried about the problems with could cause to our health. All i got back was an attitude that she doesnt appreciate my tone and will no longer be speaking with me about anything having to do with the apartment, she will speak to my husband. She basically said it was our fault without directly saying it, telling us we "let" this happen. We did not notice a single problem until we started seeing the brown water coming from under the linoleum and we notified her immediately. She again stated she is waiting until we are out of the house for a few days. I told her that we wont be away from the house until i give birth in July, and even then, my mother in law will be over while i am in the hospital to help take care of our oldest daughter.

I am starting to feel like this issue is never going to get fixed, so i am looking into who i must call in order to have them enforce her responsibilities as a landlord.

  • Landlord Question:Problem with Bathroom?

For the last week or so we've noticed there is a brown liquid coming up from the linoleum in the bathroom. I assume its because of the half assed caulking job they did around the bathrub and toilet, since the floor is rising around both of them. its rolled linoleum, not tiles. it really sucks because when we walk into the bathroom and step where its coming out, we get wet feet or socks with stains on them

i just told my landlord about it and am waiting for a response.

since water is getting under the linoleum, im assuming that they will have to replace the floor.its also probably ruining the wood under the linoleum and possibly causing mold to grow. i have a feeling they are going to tell me they cant afford to do it,that we can do it, but they wont reimburse us for it.

Just wondering what i should say/do when she tries to get out of fixing this.

  • My fathers cat defecates outside the litter box?

My dad has a 3 yr old female cat the continually defecates outside the litterbox.the most common places are the rug in the living room and the one in front of the kitchen sink. she also does it in the spare bedroom.

On my last visit,i noticed she did have worms,so i did bring that to my fathers attention,i just dont know if its been taken care of,she is also not spayed and she lives with an older spayed female and a neutered male about her age.she obviously goes into heat quite a bit.

i am thinking of offering to take the cat to the vet for my father and have her checked out,get the worms cured and maybe get her spayed. she may be moving to my brothers home and he has 4 children so i dont want the kids to get sick because of her behavior.

i will say that i dont live with my father at all,so i have no control over the cat.so please no statements that I should take care of her better. my father took in the 2 female cats as a favor to my mother, and i dont want to see either of them head to a shelter(not a kill shelter anyway)

any advice on what could be causing her behavior other than the worms would be very helpful.

  • Taking my cat on a long trip?

my husband and i are planning a trip to ohio, then to north carolina (we live in CT)to visit family at the end of april.

my cat, leo has heart disease (hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and congestive heart failure)and needs 4 different medications twice a day so we have to take him with us. i plan on giving him his own little space in our van with a litter box and other things he needs.we are also going to let him roam freely in the van in between us getting in and out of it.we have taken to to massachusetts with us before he never comes up to the drivers seat,so that wont be a problem,i will also keep his carrier open so he can sleep whenever he needs to. we will be gone 6 days to a week total.

i will of course be talking to his vet to see if there is anything special i need to do for him, other than making sure he has enough medication.

my question is,is there a water dish or anything that is specifically made for pets for long trips? im not worried about his food spilling but if his water does, it could cause a big mess.
