  • Why are people asking questions about philosophy and comparative religious studies in this category?

Of the categories provided to us, they probably belong in the Philosophy section. If we must have these questions in the Religion & Spirituality section, can we get a separate subsection simply for referencing historical texts and views and a separate subsection where people can just agree to interpret/argue about those texts and views? It just seems that in the nature of efficiency and helping out people who don't want to read the idiotic and rhetorically circular logic that any discourse on religion on the internet naturally brings, it would be nice to have a place to ask a specific, objective question on religion that has a specific, objective answer without having to listen to morons who can not even effectively argue their viewpoints, be they religious or secular. Thanks.

  • Looking for an Old Testament Reference?

I was wondering if anyone had the reference for the commandment from God for the Israelites to gather their possessions and to divide them equally amongst themselves every 60 years. If I remember correctly it was in one of the Minor Prophets although I'm having trouble locating it.

  • What Files come on a Windows XP Home Installation Disk?

I have an HP Media Center PC running Windows XP Home. Instead of giving me a Restore Disc or an Install Disc, all of the Restore and Installation files are saved on a Recovery Partition of the hard drive. I'm trying to make a bootable XP disc (Using UBCD4Win) and as I don't have the original installation disc, I'm not sure which files to use out of the Recovery Partition. In total the directory is about 6.5 GB and HP has their own Recovery Console on there as well, so i doubt it can possibly be all of the files, Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • How to delete a Facebook group?

Say you created a Facebook group and then wanted to delete it. How would you go about doing that? And would you have to manually remove all of the info and entries and what not (as I read somewhere that you needed to to delete a Facebook account)? Or is there just a blanket "Delete Group" setting?

  • Trouble Scanning with Malware Bytes Anti-Malware...?

Earlier tonight my girlfriend found signs of a virus on the computer. Normally I use Malware Bytes to scan the computer, however she began scanning it with Trend Micro. Since then I have paused the scan in Trend Micro to open and try to scan with Malware Bytes (because it is clearly a superior program). Anyway, long story short, I am able to open Malware Bytes, update the software, and update the database, however every time I try to scan with it it fools around for a minute or two while it says "Preparing for the scan..." before closing automatically. Although I think having Trend Micro open could have something to do with it, I believe I have had a Trend Micro scan paused and scanned the computer with Malware Bytes simultaneously before. Essentially what I'm wondering is, could Trend Micro be killing Malware Bytes or is it more likely that whatever has attacked the computer is killing it?

I've checked the scan logs and there is not really any information on what's happening other than the duration of the scan and the fact that it found no malicious programs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Acapella for "Gay Bar" by Electric Six?

I am searching for an acapella track for the song "Gay Bar" by Electric Six. I thought this number would be a bit easier to find, as when it was released there were tons of mashups and remixes all over the place, however, my quest so far is yielding no results. Does anyone know where I could find a copy of it?

Any help would be vastly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • How many of you are planning on not voting in November's election? And why?

This is not a persuasive thread. I probably will not vote in November and I don't believe you should either. Regardless, opinion is what makes the United States (and humanity in general) great.

Please do not reply if you are too young to vote. Please do not give me information on what candidate you will or would vote for.

That being said, I do not wish to hear from people giving me reasons for voting. I've heard them all before and I doubt you could blow my mind and change my perspective. If you plan on voting and would like to answer simply give an "affrimative" answer such as "I will be voting in November." If you could copy and paste that text that would be just great. If you just have to tell me how great voting is and why I should vote in November, you better be on your game and bring some intelligent-noise-jive or else you'll be subject to ridicule from me and anyone else on Yahoo Answers that wants to ridicule you. Furthermore, I encourage them to.

That being said, I really wanted to take a general poll and hear feedback from people who've lost the faith so to speak. I fully support my reasons for sitting out of the election process and believe they are logically founded and sound. However, I was wondering what motivations would compel other people to make the same choice?

    Proceed.

  • Fun X 5 X 7 X 5 = The Haiku Thread!?

Haiku's are relatively simple poems that come from our friends in Japan. They consist of 3 lines, with the first line containing 5 syllables, the second containing 7 syllables, and the third containing 5 syllables. Traditionally speaking, their subjects tend to lean toward nature and beauty (and other hard to grasp ideals) however you can write a haiku on anything.

A friend of mine had a small, spiral-bound notebook which sat on the table at his house and any guests of the house could take it and write a haiku in it. There were no restrictions on subject matter, quality, or number of entries within the book. This struck me as a brilliant idea because the overall quality of the collection was amazing. While reading it, you could tell it had this collective, all-encompassing atmosphere which could not be achieved with one author or even a group of authors with one definite aim. There were many different styles presented and the variety of subject matter ranged from friends of ours to superheros to furniture in the room and everything in between.

So I challenge you, Yahoo Answers, to spew forth your haikuic wisdom and let's create something beautiful. With that, I leave you with one of my haikus from the book, divinely inspired by MC Chris lyrics and a comment made by a good friend of mine on the night it was written:

    Box wine and Weezer

    We're so heterosexual

    That was sarcasm

Enjoy and have fun with it.

  • What is the status of "onedownmanship"?

Can this word, which is obviously taken from the more common "oneupmanship", really be considered a word?

In fact in the article I read here: ( http://news.yahoo.com/s/politico/20080809/pl_polit... ) the example used really tends to lend itself more so to the word "oneupmanship" rather than making a statement which is "lesser" or "underneath" the previous statement, so to speak. In fact in almost every example I can think of even if latter's statement is less grandiose or more subtle, the person making the latter statement would probably be trying to ridicule the person making the former (and thus be trying to "one up" him) by either downplaying his argument or proposing a more serious matter at hand.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, since the word "onedownmanship" obviously fails to stand on its own, and is essentially just another way of saying "oneupmanship" should it be used?

  • Does Anyone Know the Joke?

Is there actually a joke which corresponds with the punchline "And he said, 'rectum...damn near killed 'em'"? I tend to think not and that this is one of those cases where the punchline is the joke, but has anyone ever come across a legitimate first part of the joke?
