  • What would be the effects if someone was moderately poisoned?

Like, not enough to kill them but enough so it would affect them in some way.

If someone was to drink something that had been poisoned, how would they actually feel/see?

I've been trying to look it up, but almost everything I can find seems to be more from the perspective of what another person would see, and not what the person being poisoned would feel like/experience.

Other webpages or links are fine as answers! Thank you!

  • Is it illegal to misquote someone/misinterpret a meaning?

I heard that Dr. Seuss attempted to sue pro-life people for using a quote from "Horton Hears a Who" because they used it to promote pro-life, but that's not what the quote is about. But isn't that completely legal? They gave him credit for the quote, and they weren't trying to make money off of it. I was just wondering if it's legal to use something in that case. The way I've seen it, art, writing, and all of that is open to interpretation, and its okay if that interpretation is wrong.

I'm not trying to get into a pro-life vs. pro-choice or talk about Dr. Seuss in a good or bad way, I was just confused and wondering if it was legal or not.

  • Is Mattias pronounced the same as Matthias?

I know Matthias is usually pronounced mah-THY-us or mah-tee-is, as well as other ways. Those are the most common I've heard, but I know there's more.

Is Mattias (usually) pronounced the same?

  • Are Nfinity cheer shoes really better than Nike Sidelines?

My high school cheerleading team is switching to Nfinitys, but everyone who was on the team last season already has sidelines. A few new girls have joined, but like I said, everyone else has sidelines, so it's not like we all have different shoes. So: are Nfinity's really worth it?

  • Documentary about mermaids?

Both one of my teachers and my mother mentioned a while ago they watched a mermaid documentary on the Discover channel. I decided to look into it today, the closest thing I can find though is Mermaids: The Body Found (which right on it says it is fiction). I've watched previews of it, but when my mom and teacher were talking about it it seemed to mention more mermaid mythology, like different beliefs around the world and not exactly "we found a mermaid." Plus both of them said Discovery, but from what it seems like The Body Found is an Animal Planet documentary. I know it could have aired on both or whatever, but I was just wonder if there was another one, as what they saw sounded interesting. If there isn't a new one, is a Body Found still fun to watch?

Also, another kind of question: I noticed believeinmermaids.com was taken down, and it was a website from animal planet about their movie. But why was it taken down? It can't be because it's fake, as there are plenty of conspiracy sights out there, and other movies have websites, even ones that try to make people think they're real. I was just wondering.

  • What exactly does a physician assistant do? How does it differ from nursing?

For a while I've known I wanted to do something in the medical field, especially in a hospital-like setting. I was considering studying to become a nurse, but then I keep hearing about a physician's assistant - but whenever I try to look up information about them they sound exactly like a nurse, except they study medicine instead of science of nursing. That's what I got out of it, anyone. (To be honest I've only looked at a few websites, and they didn't seem to be the best)

I've heard its easier to get a job and you can make more than being a nurse - but I'm more interested in exactly what the job is first.

    Anyway, thank you!

  • Nook or Kindle? And what type of it?

I'm getting a Nook or Kindle, but I'm not sure which one would be better for me.

I've been leaning more toward the Kindle, but now I'm not too sure. I also know there are all different models of them and to be honest, I'm just a bit overwhelmed here.

    What I know I want:

    1) With a lot of free/cheap books (which I know both Kindle and Nook has)

    2) I do NOT want a back light

    3) I don't care if it's not in color (as I said, I don't want a back light)

    4) One with a lot of the out of copyright books

    5) I don't care if it has internet access or anything, I just want to read books on it. I don't want tablet or anything.

So, which is better for me, a Nook or Kindle? And, if you know what specific type (Nook Simple Touch, Kindle Touch, Kindle keyboard, etc.) would you recommend. Thanks!

Also, a question - I heard the Nook with "Glowlight" is good because it has a light that adjusts to the darkness/light so you can read at night without the light and whatever, but does that hurt your eyes? And is it still easy to read in the sun? Like, does the Glowlight turn off?

(If you can't answer that one, it's fine. Obviously I know people probably won't be able to if they've never seen one)

  • What do you think of this girl's name?

    Rosina. (Rose-ee-nah)

I saw it on my family tree (my great-great grandfather's sister) and I like it. I'm guessing it's Italian or at least used in Italy, as that is where she's from. I was wondering what other people thought of it - any opinions?

  • Baby names: your opinion on the "masculine" but not uncommon female names?

I see it a lot on this section. Someone will post a name that is unisex and has been for a bit, yet will get comments saying "No, you can't use it as a girl's name. It's masculine."

Aubrey, McKenzie, Madison, Jamie, etc. Are some examples I have seen that are only "male names that should be used for boys, not girl."

However, these names have been unisex for a while now, and I know more girls with any of those names than boys (in fact, I only know one boy named Jamie and one boy named Madison out of that list) To be honest, they all sound pretty neutral to me.

But, and I don't just mean these names, but any of the unisex names which people say "aren't good for (enter gender)"

(I've heard some for girl names on boys, but those really don't seem all too popular. The most recent I can think of is seeing Sam, as I've heard people say "it should be used for Samantha, not Samuel." Yeah, I don't know.)

Anyway, what's you opinion on this? Do you think it really matters what gender a name is on, as long as its not too out there? And let's say we stick with more common unisex names. I've heard people say "You might as well name your daughter John and your son Rose." I think I speak for most people in the world when I say: never met anyone like that. So, just to make it easier, stick with the more unisex names.

So, hey, kinda like a free rant!

(and just to say, I'm actually interested in other people's opinions. I've seen a lot of this, but not a lot of people explaining why, on either sides.)

  • Wii cannot read game disc - help?

I just got a new Wii game in the mail that I ordered from Amazon. The disc is fine, not scratched or dirty, yet when I try to play it, it says my Wii cannot read the game disc. I was just playing a different game and it was working fine. I even tried putting the game I was playing before back in and it still works! But, there's nothing wrong with the game disc. It even comes up on the Wii homepage, then I can click "start" it'll show a warning/game title or whatever - but then the screen goes white and the error message pops up. Help?

  • When in writing would "telling" be better than "showing"?

Anyone who's a writer has probably hears "Show don't tell" but I was wondering - when is it good to use the opposite. Not everything is - uh - interesting enough to be "shown" or needs to be said upfront. For example - I just read the first chapter of the Hobbit. In the beginning, Tolkien gives us a short little "telling" of things about hobbits, Bilbos family a bit, etc. and I've seen other writers do similar things (this one is just fresh in my mind) so, when is it right to tell?

  • What's the word for someone who holds a grudge/won't let anything go?

I'm pretty sure there's a word for it, but I'm not sure and can't think of it. Is there a name (like a personality trait or something) for a person who never let's go of anything and always holds a grudge. Is there a word for that?

  • If an American became an exchange student to Australia, how woul schooling be effected since...?

(first I want to apologize if there are a lot of typos, I'm not used to my iPod :P)

I'm an American considering becommimg an exchange student my juinor year. While I'm not actually sure if it'll happen, or where I'll go if it does, but I was wondering, since Australia and the US have opposite seasons, and there vacation is in the middle of our school year and vice versa, wouldn't that really mess up my school years, or would it not really make a difference? Would I be able to start my junior year in Australia and graduate with my class on time senior year back home? I hope this question makes sense...

  • Is feminism really about complete equal rights, or just certain privileges?

First let me explain, I am girl myself and I totally agree with equal rights - such as getting paid equally, getting hired equally, etc. But, I feel like most (not all) feminists want the good, but none of the bad. Like I've never heard any feminist say "Hey, woman should be able to be drafted into the army" or "Woman should have pay the bill/open a guys door for them!" I have heard of feminists that, to boycott men getting higher wages than them, they start a company that only highers woman, no men at all. How is that equality? It also seems like some (again, not all) still expect men to be the gentlemen when they don't have to be the same toward them while in a relationship.

I've even heard of feminists attacking (not literally) other woman who are more girly. Like to be equal as a woman, you have to act like a man, which totally contradicts everything about it.

  • On tumblr, how do you make it so people can reply to your posts?

I've seen things on Tumblr before where you can reply/comment/answer a post? The ones where they'd say "Have an answer for ___?" and then you can type an answer/reply without reblogging it and commenting? I can't figure out how to do that. So . . . any help?

  • Free (or cheap) alternatives to Rosetta Stone?

I'm interesting in some really good language learning programs, ones that are easy to follow/learn from and that I can go at my own pace (as my Spanish class in school is kinda slow). My brother's roommate had Rosetta Stone and said it really worked well; but I do not have the money to buy a copy myself. Any good cheap or free alternatives? Mostly, I'm interested in Spanish.

  • Quadratic formula help? No B and a question in general?

I have a homework problem that has 49z(to the second power) = 1. I know you can bring the 1 over to C by subtracting it to both sides, but how do you solve B? Do you just do it without B?

Also, I'm doing something wrong with the formula completely, apparently.

For example I have for one problem:

    x(to the second) + 5x - 6 = 0, so I wrote the formula as;

    -5 +/- (square root of) 5 (2nd) - 4*(1)*(-6) over 2.

    I then got 5 (2nd) = 25, -4*1*-6 = 24.

    Then adding those together; 49

    49/2 = 24.5

    Square root of 24.5 = 4.949

    then:

    -5 + 4.949 = -.051, and -5 - 4.949 = -9.949.

...according to my book, that isn't the answer >.<

Help please with either of these?
