  • Angelfish with swollen stomach?

I have 3 angelfish. 2 I've had for 6 months, they are blue marbles and they are huge. I've had the white one for almost 10 months. The marbles were the same size as the white one when I got them but now they are almost 3 times as big. The white one is still very small and hasn't grown in months.

I noticed today that the small ones stomach is really swollen. She's eating and swimming okay but I can tell something is wrong. Could it be swim bladder? I've heard of it but never actually seen it. What can I do to treat it before it gets worse or kills her??

  • Freshwater fish for a 29gal hex....?

I have a 29gal hex that had 3 angelfish and 5 Cory cats. I moved the angels into a 55gal so they would have more room. The hex is heavily planted with a piece of driftwood in the middle that goes the whole way to the water line. What would be some good fish for this kind of tank?

I know there isn't alot of space for swimming since its tall instead of long so I'm not sure what kind of fish to get.

  • High ammonia is aquariums, can't get it down!!!?

I have a 55g and a 30gal. Both tanks have been established for over a year. The only fish in the 30g are 5 small (1-1.5in) African cichlids and a bristlenose pleco. I ordered 8 juvenile German blue rams and wanted the tank for just them. So I put the Africans in the 55g with 3 parrot cichlids, 6 yoyo loaches and a common pleco. The next day one of my parrots, a loach and a cichlid had died.

And the 30gal tank is cloudy with a white film covering everything. The ammonia levels are high so I did a partial water change and added ammo-lock, TLC and stress zyme. The ammonia doesn't seem to have lowered at all. Should I do another partial water change on both tanks?

And will the rams survive the bacteria bloom or should I put them in my 30gal hex? I'm scared that this will happen again in my hex tank if I put them in there.

  • My Parrot fish died :( Need help!?

I have had 3 parrot fish in a 55gal tank for almost 2 years. I just found one dead. My tank has been established for years, never had any issues with amonia or nitrites and nitrates. I checked the levels and the amonia is high. I have stress zyme, TLC, ammlock and a water conditioner. Should I add some of those and do a partial water change? I just did a 30% water change 2 days ago and everything was fine. I haven't changed the filter media or added any new fish.

I don't want to lose my other parrots!

  • Stocking, water parameters and tank mate questions!!!?

I have 4 tanks. One is a 55gal with 3 parrot fish, 6 yoyo loaches, 6 glow tetras and a bristlenose pleco.

The 39gal hex has 3 angelfish, 5 Cory cats and a Bolivian ram.

Then I have a 10gal that I breed pink and blue ramshorn snails and shrimp in.

The last tank is a 30gal long. German rams are my favorite fish and I'm going to use that tank to try to breed them. The tank has been established for about a year and a half, and has alot of live plants and driftwood. I should be getting the 8 I ordered within the next couple days. The only thing in the tank right now is a bristlenose pleco and a mystery snail.

Does anyone have any advice on how to breed them? Also any tips for keeping their tank requirements how they are needed, I had 4 before and none lasted more than 2 months. I bought a new thermometer to keep the temp at 84 degrees and have been using spring water for the last 6 water changes to decrease the hardness of my water.

I know that 8 is alot for a 30gal so after they mature and pair up is there any other tanks they could be in without getting killed and stressed?

And last question, should I have a small school of dither fish with them to keep them more comfortable? I was thinking about neon tetras or guppies.

    Thanks!

  • I need ebay help asap! being harassed by a buyer!!!?

Ok so I breed and sell pink ramshorn snails on ebay. I have sold 22 different orders all successfully. None have died and everyone has been extremely happy with them. When I ship them I provide the buyer with a tracking number so they know when to expect them.

They buyer bought 5 but I always give 3 extra. He decided to go on a 4 day weekend knowing the snails would be delivered and sitting in his mailbox in florida in the heat for 3 days. So when he got them he sent me a pic of 5 snails, 3 dead and 2 alive. But he did NOT show the extra 3 I sent so I know they are alive. He is requesting a full refund plus keep the snails. He opened a case and I explained to ebay everything I just did in this message. Do you think they will side with him?

He has been nasty and sending me nasty emails. The last one was:

    From: Charlie Wight <charliewight@yahoo.com>

  • Good tankmates for ram cichlids......?

I've decided to redo my 30 gal and have decided on a pair of german rams. I want some equally brightly colored fish to go along with them. I've looked at killifish, rainbow fish and knight gobies.

Would this stocking work and if so how many of each? I'm also open to suggestions to go with the rams

  • Blue marble angelfish- when will they turn blue?

I ordered 2 angelfish from a breeder. One is called a blue marble widefin, and the other is a Brazilian glitter. Both shown as adults are a very pretty blue. Mine are nickel sized, one looks white with black marbling and the other is a almost grey with light colored striped. Do these sound like what they are supposed to look like now? How long until they turn blue ?

  • Freshwater goby tankmates?

I seen a freshwater goby at the LFS today. I don't know what kind it was, it was a light blue. I tried finding it online to see what it's tank requirements and suitable tankmates are but I can't find it. Does anyone have a blue freshwater goby and know what good tankmates would be? I have a 30g with 5 baby African cichlids that were given to me that I'm going to sell so that tank will be empty.

    Any suggestions?

  • Feeding snails and ghost shrimp cabbage?

So I breed and sell pink ramshorn snails. They were breeding like crazy but have seemed to slow down. They have their own 10gal that the temp is always between 78 and 80 degrees. I read feeding them a cucumber slice makes them breed but could they have cabbage? I also have 6 ghost shrimp in there so would they eat it too and would it hurt them?

  • Need stocking help ASAP!!!?

My neighbor decided she doesnt want her fish tank anymore and all she has left is one small angelfish and 3 cory cats. She was going to flush them and I felt bad so I said I would take them. Now I don't know which tank to put them in, I have a 55g that has parrot cichlids, glowfish, yoyo loaches and a couple snails. I also have a 27g tall hex that has a dwarf ram, glofish and ghost shrimp. I was thinking of putting the angel and the cories in the hex tank since it doesnt have many fish and angels do better in taller tanks and I don't know if the cories and loaches would get along in the 55g.

    Suggestions??

  • African cichlids with serpae tetra?

I decided to make my 30 gal a African cichlid tank. I bought my first one last night, less than 2 in, but I have a school of serpae tetra. Should I rehome them and just have the cichlids?

How many can I have in a 30g?

And I don't know what region they come from, it just says assorted African cichlids at the LFS. I got a yellow one with black stripes and buying another tomorrow.

  • Discus in a 30gal aquarium?

I upgraded to a 55g and moved the fish that were in the 30gal into there so now all the 30g has is 6 serpae tetra and a bristlenose pleco. The freshwater fish I have always wanted ( Parrot cichlids, dwarf rams, angelfish and yoyo loaches), I have, the only ones I don't have are discus. Ive researches water parameters and the kind of set ups they like and the tank is heavily planted but still has alot of open area to swim.

Everything I have read says they are shoaling fish and need 5gals per discus, and several employees at LFS have said I could have 5 if I rehome the serpaes but 30gal seems like it would be too small for 5 discus. Would 3 be okay or is it too small for them altogether?

If so I'm open to stocking suggestions. Would like a couple bigger colorful fish instead of smaller schooling fish.

  • Mystery snail eggs fell in water, should I take them out so they can hatch?

I found a sac of mystery snail eggs above the water line in my tank. 10mins later they were on the bottom of the tank. I want them to hatch so should I take them out of the water? I seen someone say to put them in a plastic bag with a wet paper towel to keep them warm but will it still work if they have been under water for 10mins?

  • Very large egg sac in aquarium, please help!!!!!!!?

Tonight while feeding my fish I noticed a very large egg sac. Its about 2 and a half inches long and a inch wide. Its pale colored, almost a whitish yellow. It was above the water line and fell to the bottom.

It's a 55gal tank that has 2 parrot cichlids, 6 glow tetras, 6 yoyo loaches and 2 apple snails. I looked up parrot, glow and loach eggs and none looked anything like it. Are they snail eggs? Ive seen snail eggs before and they were much smaller. Each egg is about the size of a bb.

Any ideas on what these could be and should I remove them from the tank? They are in a large cluster, almost shaped like a raspberry. Wish I could upload pics, but my computer is acting up. Since they are submerged now are they ruined?

Please someone tell me what they are!!

  • How to make a extremely shy fish come out more?

I have 2 parrot cichlids in my 55 gal planted tank. There are plenty of hiding spots, I've made several caves out of rocks and there is a coconut decoration and cichlid stones also. Pinky is the first parrot I got and the biggest. When she was in the 30g she was always swimming around and never hid. When I added the smaller parrot they got along great and swam around together.

When I moved them to the 55gal the little one continued to swim around like before but pinky constantly hides! She stays in the coconut all day and night. I've even had to start using a turkey baster to target feed her bc she won't come out to eat. I read that having a school of slow moving peaceful dither fish or loaches will help them feel safe and will make them come out more. So I got 6 serpae tetra and 5 yoyo loaches. The smaller parrot "plays" with the loaches and is more active than ever but Pinky is still in her coconut. Any suggestions on what else I can do?? She's had plenty of time to adjust, they have been in the new tank for 3 months

  • Beginnner planted aquarium questions?

I just recently started adding live plants to my aquariums. I stuck with low light, easier "beginner" plants. I have quite a few annubias, amazon swords, baracopia, banana plants and java moss. They are thriving in my hex tank, I was able to cut off 7 nice sized baby swords from the big plant and all he other plants are excellent. The same plants keep dying off in my 55gal. I have both tanks all set at the same temp of 78 degrees and the lighting is the same. I use liquid fertilizer in both tanks once a month. Any ideas on how to keep the plants in the 55 alive? When they are starting to look bad I replant them into the 27 and within a week they are improving. The only difference is I use sand in the 55 and gravel in the hex. Does that make a difference? I really don't want gravel in the 55 because I have loaches and parrot fish that like to dig around in the substrate.

  • What would be a good bottom feeder for my tank?

I have 4 different freshwater aquariums that all have different kinds of community fish. I don't want the same kind of bottom feeders I already have. I have a albino bristlenose in my 30gal mixed tetras, several pink ramshorn snails and a blue apple snail in the 27 angelfish hex and ghost shrimp in my 10gal betta tank.

My LFS doesn't have a big variety, so I order most of my fish/snails online. I need some ideas for a bottom feeder for my 55gal parrot cichlid/ram tank. I don't want another bristlenose and other than those the LFS only has common plecos which I know will get too big. I would like something unusual, I love the zebra plecos but the only ones I've found were over $300
