I'm from New Zealand and proud of it. My name is NOT Lexiana Lark, but i'm not saying what it is! I love SCUBA diving, reading (especially Anthony Horowitz and Eion Colfer), music (NZ music is great, i wish more people listened to it), and writing. At the moment i'm writing a book called 'In The Dark', it's a novel about a ninja, and when it's finished i think it will be aimed at boys 10-15 years of age, my cousins' ages. That's the main reason i joined Yahoo, so watch out; if you answer questions, you might find your own words coming out of one of my character's mouths in a couple of years time.

  • Earthquake in my town - should I leave the house?

There's been three small (5.8-ish, 20km deep) earthquakes in my region today and yesterday, but I really need groceries. Problem is, in the event of a really big earthquake the only road between my suburb and the city, could collapse back into the sea - the motorway landmass was formed in an earthquake, and there's no reason it couldn't be destroyed the same way.

But I -think- it's very, very unlikely.

But worst case scenario, I wouldn't be able to get home.

But it might just be paranoia keeping me in. And I need milk, bread and eggs.

    Arghhh.

So, basically - do I risk it? Would you risk it?

  • What makes a great RPG board game?

I'm not an RPG player myself, but I had an idea for a game, so I want to know before I get into making it - what makes a great RPG great?

  • Where can I get a cyr wheel from (I'm in New Zealand)?

I understand it would be a matter of buying one from the USA or somewhere and shipping it here, but I can't even find someone that does that! Help?

  • Korea-related activities for kids?

I work at a holiday program, and on Monday I'm apparently organising a "Korea" themed day. So far we have a Tae Kwon Do expert coming in, we'll have some ink for the kids to write their names in Korean characters, and I've found some simple hand games such as Kai Bai Bo and Jero.

I'm worried that it's not going to fill the whole day though, so I wondered if anyone could recommend me some fun activities, maybe art or games?

    Thanks!

  • Is VBS programming safe?

I'm a complete novice, and yet I already know a way to make a fake virus and a way to make a real one; I shudder to think how many different ways there are to make them, and I don't want to make one and infect my computer accidentally. So - is VBS safe to experiment in programming with, or is the risk of creating a virus too large?

  • Anyone know much about cars?

I'm hoping to save our family's boat from early retirement (motorboat, kinda medium sized), but for that I need a car with which to tow it. My question: What's a car that's powerful enough to tow a boat, but easy to drive and not gas-guzzling?

  • Have you tried Tae Kwon Do or Karate? Which should I do?

I really want to do a martial art, and I'd decided on Tae Kwon Do when a friend said that he'd done it before, and it hadn't been great. He reckoned Karate would be better.

Thoughts? Especially about Tae Kwon Do?

    Thank you! :)

  • What's a good, free screen-capture software that's virus-free?

I've made an intro for a YouTube video on PowerPoint, and I would like to get it into my video-editor (Windows Live Movie Maker - yeah I know, cringe). I tried to download Windows Media Encoder 9, but I couldn't open it for some reason beyond my understanding.

Have you used any free screen-capture software that you know to be virus-free? Which is the best to use?

    Thanks for the help

  • How safe is eBay to use?

And also, I live in New Zealand. Will it tell me upfront the amount I need to pay, or will I need to do a lot of calculating exchange rates/shipping/etc?

    Thanks

  • How to strengthen my voice when I talk?

My voice is really weak and quiet; even when I shout, it can be difficult to reach the volume I want. At parties I can't talk over the music without yelling. I would love to make a vlog for YouTube, but my quiet voice clashes with the energy I have and want to portray. People judge me as someone quiet and shy, just because I can't be loud with my voice, so when they go to town I quite often get left out. I want to be a teacher, but if the kids couldn't hear me then they wouldn't respect me, and I probably wouldn't even pass the work experience part of the course.

How can I make my voice stronger and more assured? Are there vocal exercises? Or am I stuck with this wimpy little voice for the rest of my life?

    Thanks for any help :)

I can't think of what my sister (who is 17) would want for Christmas. So, if you're a teenage girl - what is on your wishlist?

Maybe that'll give me some inspiration :)

  • Help - don't want to sleep, but feel down when I'm tired?

I've been feeling sad to the point of tears recently, even though I've got it pretty good at the moment. It's just small things, like worry that friends don't like me, or that work isn't going well, that I'll fail next semester or that I'm almost 19 and never been kissed (okay, that's a biggie, but it shouldn't bring me down so much). I'm naturally a fairly happy person, but it seems that when I get even the slightest bit tired recently, that I start crying and feeling quite a deep depression.

But on the other hand, I don't want to sleep - I get vivid nightmares, sleepwalk and sleeptalk, rearrange things all around my room, all sorts of things. Plus, there's always something to do to distract myself from sleeping - like, right now, it's 1:30 am.

Can you help me at all? A way not to feel depressed, or a way to sleep dreamlessly, or some other magical solution?

    Thanks

  • Aussies - how do I not get eaten by this spider of yours?

The Redback spider has moved into New Zealand, and quite frankly I'm afraid for my life. The point of New Zealand is that we don't have anything poisonous but the Katipo! But now with Whitetails and Redbacks, I am freaking out.

My question is, how do you prevent yourself from being eaten by these things? (I mean bitten of course, but it feels more melodramatic than that.) Whitetails I could deal with, they just make you sick - but Redbacks... *shudder*.

    Help?

  • In Wicca, would this spell be morally okay?

I know that in Wicca, casting general love spells to attract love is okay, but casting one on a specific person is immoral, because it's taking away their free will.

So what about if you meet someone for the first time and make a real hash of it, and want to make them forget about what a stuff-up it was? Is that okay? Or is that taking away their free will to interpret the meeting any way the want?

Please don't say things like "spells don't work" and "try talking to them instead" - this is just out of curiosity to know what would be okay and what wouldn't. I'm not necessarily planning to use the spell.

  • How long does anaesthetic last for?

This is research I'm doing for a story.

If you were given a shot of anaesthetic that knocked you out, how long would it last until you woke up again?

I'm guessing it would depend on your weight, so if it's any help, my character is an average 25 year old. But it's not that important; just rough estimates are enough.

  • What's a good, free video editing program?

I have Windows Live Movie Maker at the moment, but I'd love to use some of the cool tricks that YouTubers use, like more than one screen at once and adding effects; they don't even have to be good effects. Also, I'd like to put more than one layer of sound if possible. Any free, downloadable programs like this?

  • Has anyone been on a flight between America and South Africa?

This is for research for a story. Have you gone from America to South Africa, or the other way around, by plane? Was the plane booked out, or were there extra seats? What time of year did you go?

    Thanks heaps!
