  • Do you buy all your kids school supplies?

Okay, I got my child's last progress report with his next years "school supply list". He is going into the 1st grade.

I cannot help but be agitated by the demands; which I have valid reasons to be upset... I just want to know if there are other individuals who dislike it, as I do.

The school list consists of 4-24 crayon packs, 2 jumbo marker packs, 4 glue sticks, 2 packs of colored pencils, 2 packs of (specific name) pencils, 2 packs of (specific name) large erasers, 2 packs index cards, 4 composition books, 2 1 inch binders, 5 plastic folders, 4 packs of black/blue expo markers, 4 packs of white copy paper, 2 packs of highlighter, 2 small Ziploc baggies, 2 gallon Ziploc baggies. 4 boxes of tissues, 2 things of hand sanitizer, back pack, headphones, and scissors.....

Last year I had a list similar, which I gave all the asked supplies. Only I know my child never used them all; they asked for 4 packs of 1000 cnt index cards. My son had "power words" come home for 2 weeks on these index cards, 10 words, only 8 kids in the class. Never seen the cards come back nor does the math add up---where is the returned or excess cards?

Heres the root of my question: Do you buy everything on the list? My child is going to a public school that gets grants and sponsorship to cover supplies and operation funds. Why am I being asked to supply additional supplies, for other kids and the teacher?? I will give where I cannot but I feel like I am being taken advantage of. So do you?

  • Why are my ankles swelling? Preventatives?

I did a recent search of WebMD, and couldnt find a fesable explanations as to why my ankles keep swelling.

I work 12 hour shifts for a local hospital. But I am not constantly standing or sitting. I am not obese. I am not taking any medications. I have no family history of heart/kidney/liver diseases.

The only thing I think that could be contributing is I started increasing my water intake, because I noticed I have been getting chapped lips and lipbalm was not cutting it.

  • Would it be redundant to get an oil change and a tune up service maintenance? Are they the same?

I don t know much about cars.

I recently purchased a brand new Kia Soul in August of last year. It is due for its monthly/bimonthly oil change....

But I noticed that its hitting the 50k mile marker. Which, when I purchased the vehicle it only has 5-10 miles on it..

Someone had told me that in order to keep a new vehicles engine working properly, I need to keep regular maintenance, including tracking the tune-ups and oil-changes.

So, could someone educate me here a bit.... Is a tune-up an oil-change, are they different. Should I get both procedures done to my car.

    Thanks, Nicole

  • What could cause unusal/abnormal menstal cycle changes?

I am really good with making sure my personal hygiene is close to God like practice-- I knew I was pregnant 3 days after conception, good....

My last period was not like my other periods. I had a red-tinted discharge that last for a week but not enough for a tampon or pad to be needed, only for 3 days of heavy bleeding to occur, than gone!!! Stopped.

Usually my periods are on time and regular, super heavy flows. I am too young for menopause. I am kind of concerned here. I am sexually active with my husband, but I am not pregnant (already took several tests, even from to OB); I started taking a new OTC multivitamin about 2 months ago. Nothing has changed in my diet or activities.....

Can someone explain to me what is going on?

  • Is there such a thing as seasonal bisexuality?

My husband and I had a dear friend of ours over for dinner tonight. She "came out to us and wanted to have someone to confide in. She's in an ongoing 10yr marriage with her husband. She still is blissfully in love with him, but claims she is season bisexual because only during 1 time of the year, she has the preference for a female companion-- she stressed not in another other manner than sexual-- that she doesn't want anything more than a 1 time incident a year. Is that not considered bisexuality?? I really want to be supportive, but I think she is getting confused with the terminology of ones sexuality.

  • Taming a new kitten... how?

Our family took in a stray kitten, about 9weeks. We have an existing kitty in the home, we wanted to give her a little friend. Since we've caught her in a cat carrier, the kitten won't socialize, eat or stop hiding with in the carrier. The darling is crapping and sleeping in the carrier.

How can I get her to relax, socialize healthy, and eat? My other kitty we've had and socialized with her since she was days old from my sisters kitty. Any helpful suggestions or tips?

  • Are yoga pants spandex or nylon?

I'm having a great debate with my friends... Most yoga pants are made from a synthetic polymer. While she debates nylon is not a form of spandex, I'm arguing against her notion that although not molecular compounded or produced about 20yrs apart but are both still synthetic polymers making them the same materials. Who's right???

  • How to prepare for at-home recovery of a csection?

When I had my first child, back when I was 21, I was pushed into an emergency csection, and was a complete noob (I had no birth plan, hospital bag, or prep for at home aftercare for myself, or knew what to expect--I had to sleep upright in a recliner for 5 weeks before I was able to tolerate getting in-out of a bed)... that was 4-5 years ago.

This time around, I'm 18 days away from delivering my baby by another csection, I'm trying to be a little more prepared and not just for my baby's sake. I'm trying to prepare for myself. Could one of my fellow c-section mamas, help me put together an itemized list, of things I would need for both in-hospital and at-home care so that I could start stocking up on.

  • Would it be a bad idea to bring our toddler along for our anniversary date night?

My husband and I got married 1yr ago from today. My husband and I came together, for the love of my toddler.

We both know it's not tradition and are concerned that having our toddler for dinner and a movie, may later on hurt our relationship, down the road, unintentionally--even on this one-time-occasion...

  • How many diapers would I need?

I'm a second time mom (had my other 4-5 years ago... this pregnancy was NOT planned lol) and I cannot remember to save my life what a baby really needs, diaper wise, since I recently picked up couponing and a frugal lifestyle-- which has led me to try for a back stock of diapers, before the baby is due

I'm looking for an ESTIMATE... or what other 2nd time moms have done to be a little prepared for a diaper budget; we all know it can get expensive!

How many diapers would/did you estimate (let's say the child is a 5-6lb newborn, when delivered), till the child reaches 10-14lbs?

How many diapers would you estimate till the child reaches 18-20lbs?

How many diapers till the child reaches 30lbs?

    Thanks for the help...

  • Is this pregnancy discrimination or harassment? I usually don't stand up for myself .........?

I am 32 weeks pregnant and have been working with my company for about 2 years.

When I got hired, I told my supervisor that because I have a child under 4yrs old, that may daytime availability was limited and willing to work the graveyard shift. Everything was fine. She took leave for her own medical problems, when she came back, I just began announcing I had gotten pregnant.

Long story short, since she's returns from her leave, she has rode my *** for months, nit-picked at my work for minor details, and has now, cut my hours from 32 to 8 a week... shes removed me from 3rd shift, and it seems I am assigned the "more difficult tasks" that require heavy lifting, I am forced to stand for the FULL 8-hour shift, and she's told me I'm not allowed to wear spandex or like material, but lets the other girls wear yoga pants.... because of my many "screw ups" and since announcing I was pregnant, it seems that she refuses to make any accommodations to my daytime availability.

I am even more threatened that as my pregnancy comes to an end, I have PTS kicking in which has me paranoid, depressed and scared; and she's already hired another person to "cover me" when I am gone. I'm really panicked here.... is this discrimination (of any kind?) ? What can or should I do?

  • What is "fat-back"?

My father past away a few months ago, and he loved to cook. When I was a little girl, my father would make us dinner but not document his recipes, so I'm recreating this recipe and delicious dinner from scratch....

That is where I need help. My father used to make this delicious Irish-inspired dish that had boiled cabbage with salt, pepper, butter, and a mystery ingredient: "fat-back"! Often was served with smoked Kielbasa sausage and diced Yukon potatoes. I have gone to the grocery store and asked the butcher what this ingredient was, and he just gave me a blank stare.... I remember it looking like bacon... Any idea what "fat-back" is?

    Thanks!

  • How to prepare and control anxiety about a scheduled csection?

I'm 30 weeks long... I already had a talk with my doctor about having to undergo another csection due to no institution within my area will permit a VBAC(Vaginal Birth After Csection)...

So since my first csection was very traumatic for me (my then-doctor, would make inappropriate jokes about "fixing mistakes" he may have made before I even notices, to the nurses in recovery room using their hands on my sensitive bandaged incision like a meat tenderizer without narcotics in my system). VERY traumatic that it encouraged and escaladed my PPD to get worse-- I needed to take pills and counseling for 2 years after the surgery to finally recover

... I have been experiencing more and more anxiety as the date approaches. I have a new doctor, new man, new town.... its getting exhausting and nerve-racking. I DO NOT WANT ANOTHER CSECTION. What can I do since I am forced to?

  • How to demolish and reconstruct a bathroom to be part of a bedroom?

First my husband and I are expecting a new family member in April 2015. We live in a 2bed/2bath home. The bathroom we want to demolish has always had issues (leaks, low flow, and poor ventilation)...

Since we are expecting another boy, we wanted to demolish the en-suite bathroom that is connected to the room, to add additional square feet to accompany our growing family... just to get a few more years out of our home.

Can someone give me an itemized list on steps to take for a DIY reno? My husband and I have done several reno projects throughout our home (tiling, painting, installing drywalling, and cabinents) and feel we are suited to do this without having to call in the big guys with over-inflated pricing. We need instructions on cap off water lines to removing s light switch. Thanks.

  • How to host a "gender-reveal" baby shower?

I'm 5 months pregnant. My husband and I had set out sites on this new trend to have a "gender reveal baby shower". In lieu, the shower will reveal the sex as well as celebrate life. You cut or offer a sweet treat that will show the gender with either pink or blue fillings... and everyone will know the sex.

Long story short, my husband and I have been told we are supposed to have and make 2 separate parties... 1 for the reveal like a dinner party, and another party for the shower which will allow family and friends to get appropriate gifts for the baby...

We was told to prepare a "uni-sex style" baby shower... which would help mask and encourage the anticpation for the big reveal. Is this correct? Help!
