  • Haircut advice??

I'm a guy and I've been growing my hair out for the past year and a half, its about 9 in long. It's really thick and and wavy and its hard to deal with everyday. Not sure what to tell a stylist to do with it. I've read layers help but I'm afraid it will require more effort to work with after they grow out. Any ideas? I don't want to have to do anything with it other than brush it a couple times a day.

  • Does appearance matter in most engineering jobs?

I just started college to pursue an electrical engineering major. I was just wondering if most engineering jobs, in general, require a lot of personal interaction, in which case I would have to wear a suit and stay clean cut. Or could I show up to work dressed casually with a beard and hair below my shoulders. I know that I would have to look my best for any interview in order to get a job, but once I get hired, will people care how I look.

Any advice from personal experience is much appreciated.

    Thanks

  • How will less sugar in my diet affect me?

I'm already skinny (6 ft about 150 lb) and I'm going to cut soda out of my diet. I drink about 2-3 cans a day. I also plan on working out more and I'm assuming that less sugar in my diet will help to see better results. Is this correct? All answers are much appreciated.

  • What will happen if I stop consuming junk food? (details inside)?

I've been naturally skinny all my life (6 ft and about 145 lb). I don't eat extremely healthy (I wouldn't say I have an awful diet but I do get fast food about twice a week and drink a ton of soda) and rarely exercise. I've thought about cutting junk food and soda from my diet and was wondering what would happen. Would I get even skinnier than I am now? If I did this would it be easier to get ripped? I don't want huge muscles like a bodybuilder, but I do want the ones that I have to show through. I also want to get my pecs and abs more defined. Any advice on the matter is much appreciated.

  • Hairstyles for a 20 year old guy...?

I'm going to cut my hair soon and was wondering what hairstyles look good on young guys. I've had long hair for a really long time and I'm unsure of how I'm going to look without it. I have thick, wavy hair and would like to cut it to 2-3 in long. Any ideas with pics?

  • Inclined planes question?

    Can anyone explain this?

When dealing with an inclined plane with an object on it, in order to find the forces along the x-axis, why do you use sin(theta) multiplied by the weight of the object. Also, with the y-axis, you use cos(theta). In the problem I am looking at, the Cartesian coordinate has been tilted so that the x axis is parallel with the incline plane. In math, I always thought that cos(theta) related to the x direction and sin related to y.

If this doesn't make sense, comment and I can clarify with an example from my lecture.

    Thanks

  • Other method for finding mean of 3 or more numbers...?

Except for the traditional way of dividing the sum of all numbers by # of numbers.

    Also, don't suggest expected value.

I know this should be in the math section, but no one could give me a good answer there.

    Thanks

  • Question about the average of 3 or more numbers...?

Whenever I need to find the average of 2 numbers quickly I find the middle number in my head by adding a certain amount to the small number and subtracting the same amount from the large number. I do this until both numbers equal each other and this is the average. Not sure how this sounds in writing but it makes sense in my head. It's quicker than adding the two numbers together and dividing by 2 (for me).

For obvious reasons you can't do this when computing the average of more than 2 numbers.

Anybody know of a way to average 3 numbers in your head (without calculator).

And don't just say add them together and divide by three, I know that.

Also don't suggest expected value. That's harder than the traditional way of computing an average.

I don't think there is a simpler way, but if you have a strategy that works I'd love to hear it.

  • Car accident question...?

I was driving on the freeway and the car next to me started to come into my lane. His turn signal wasn't on so I thought that he was just veering. He continued to come over so I went to the left while slowing down. I was in the high lane so I started running into the yellow plastic poles that separate the toll road/diamond lanes. (our cars never hit each other) I thought it was no big deal but it turns out those plastic poles do a lot of damage. My headlight cracked and there are a lot of black marks on the fender. Now to the question, should I call the insurance company and file an accident in fear that my rates will sky rocket (I'm 19 years old) or should I take it to a body shop and just pay the cash to have it fixed (I have the money). Also, what would the insurance company call this situation, I didn't get the guys license # and our cars didn't hit but it wasn't entirely my fault.

My parents are going to find out eventually and they will probably tell me how to handle it, but I wanted to hear other peoples' opinions.

    Thanks

  • Trying to see this girl...?

I knew this girl from last semester, we were in the same class, just friends. I recently saw her on campus but we could only talk for a few minutes, we both had to get to class. I've asked this girl if she wanted to get lunch on two separate occasions since then but she said she was busy both times (job related). I understand she has a job and a full schedule at school. On the other hand I think that if she really wanted to see me she would find time. Am I ignorant to think this way? The second time she said she was busy, I texted her back saying to call me if she ever wanted to hang out. Should I wait for her to initiate a meet up between the two of us. I know that men usually do this but I don't want to look needy asking her for a third time.

Also, would a girl see this as just friends getting together or something more. I haven't insinuated that I want a relationship with her, but I am hoping that it will lead up to that.

  • New cell phone, help with questions...?

I just got an htc evo v and I am going with virgin mobile's $35/month plan.

I currently have an ipod touch that I would like to get rid of, or more replace with my new phone. Is there any way transfer the apps and music from my ipod to my new phone or do I have to purchase them all again? Most songs were purchased from amazon mp3 so I believe they are saved on my computer somewhere, but all of the apps were purchase from apple's app store.

Also can I only buy apps/music from virgin mobile's app store since I'm using their service?

    Any answers are much appreciated.

  • Question on Mike Brown fired?

Anybody think Kobe was the main reason he got canned. Reason, the last game Brown coached for the Lakers, Kobe gave him the "death stare" and I have a feeling that Kobe runs that team more than the Buss family.

    Any thoughts?

  • When should I text her again...?

I texted this girl and asked her if she wanted to have lunch some time. She responded yes when she can find some free time in her schedule. (were both in college) This happened on Sunday, its now Wednesday when I'm typing this. When can I ask her again to meet up (don't want to appear desperate). Would this Friday be too soon, or should I wait another week.

  • Is it bad to get someone's cell number from another person?

I want to get this girl's phone number but I have yet to see her this semester. We were in the same class last semester. I see a mutual friend of ours a few times a week though. Is it okay for me to ask the mutual friend for the girl's phone number. I know some people are uncomfortable about giving out other people's numbers. If it's not a good idea, any ideas on how I can contact her?

BTW I had the girl's phone number last semester but she has different number now. I tried calling and got some random person.

  • Question on random variables?

random variables X and Y have the joint density function:

    f(x,y) = 2U(x) U(y) e^[-4y + (x/2)]

find the probability that the values of Y are not greater than twice the values of X for x<=3.

    Thanks

  • Statistics probability distribution function?

    given F(x,y)=K(X^2)(Y^2)

    0<=x<=1, 0<=y<=1

find value of K for this to be a valid distribution function?

Anyone know how to do this? I have only found constant values in a density function before.

Thanks for any responses in advance.
