  • Any artists/songs similar to Vivaldi?

I love the music composed by Vivaldi, especially the rhythmic parts with fast tempos. Are there any other songs that I could enjoy that are similar?

  • Is there some video player that can pause at specific bookmarks?

I need a piece of software that can pause, or show a loop when a point in time is reached, and then I can continue it, you know like a PowerPoint presentation, but with video. I also need that application to support projecting. I know that this is possible in flash, but it's very time consuming, and I don't have that time, and projector support isn't that great in flash.

  • Is there any website that recommends games based on hardware?

I know there is "CanYouRunIt" which tests if a game works on your computer. I have an older computer, and I would like to install some games on it, but I don't know what runs and what doesn't on it. Is there a place that recommends games based on the hardware? That would be great to help me find compatible games.

  • Remote access software for unattended computer?

I need a way to leave my home computer on, and access it remotely from another place. Is there any way I can do that?

Here are the things I need:

    * automatic connection: The home computer remains unattended... I can't manage errors, connection trouble (which would cause a disconnect) and that kind of problems, so the program must somehow resolve these problems automatically and the worse that can happen would need reconnecting...

    * no user input: the host computer shouldn't need any user input to function, etc...

    * easy file transfer: I need to transfer files (not big ones, <1mb... but many)

For the host, the program can be either for windows 7 or ubuntu, but for the computer I connect from, it has to work with windows.

  • Y!Messenger notification when a specific contact comes online?

  • Why is Y! Messenger not updating in realtime?

I have the latest version (11). I also noticed this problem in older versions, and also in other IM software (Pidgin, Kopete on ubuntu).

I receive the messages very late, and all at once. From time to time, sent messages appear twice. Also, the contacts list (who is online/offline) updates late. Why could that be? And how can it be fixed?

I am connected to the internet through Wi-Fi from my laptop, if that is any help.

  • How to search for a file in windows 7 which has a search keyword in its name?

I hate search in windows 7, even the CMD search using 'dir' command works better, and the keywords are just making it worse.

I have an icon collection, and I need some icons, one of them contains 'size' it the filename, and another one contains 'picture'.

However, in windows 7 search, these are keywords. If I type 'size', it turns blue and shows all the images in the collection. If I type 'picture', it think I'm looking for any file that is a picture, and also shows all the images.

How in the world can I search in windows 7?

  • Can't kill process in Windows 7?

What the heck is wrong with it? It says "Access Denied" when I'm trying to kill a process. I'm the administrator of the computer, I created the damn process... why can't I kill it? It just sits there wasting CPU, RAM... 'cause I can't kill the damn thing...

This never happened to me back when I was using XP. Why is Microsoft limiting what I can do on my own computer !?!? If I'm an admin, I want to be an ADMIN, and not be limited to what I can do. If I want to delete C:\Windows, I should be able to do it... but it doesn't let me!

  • How can I block a website in linux (ubuntu)?

    1. How can I block a website in Linux, without losing my super user privileges?

I know I can edit /etc/hosts, but when I want to unblock that website, it's really easy... because I use my password. One way would be to set up a limited user, but I won't be able to do really important stuff (like connecting to the internet which requires super user privileges, installing/uninstalling programs or libraries etc).

Browser extensions are not a good solution, you know... chrome and firefox are not the only web browsers out there...

    2. Can I block a website even if I access it through proxy?

  • Impossible to undo site block?

Is there any way a website can be blocked in a way that it is impossible to be undone, in the Windows and Linux (Ubuntu) operating systems?

I know, there is a way by editing C:/Windows/System32/drivers/etc/hosts (windows) or /etc/hosts (linux).

The problem is that it is possible to delete the line whenever one wants access to that website.

In linux, it is a bit safer, since it asks for the user password. But this is not good, since the password is necessary for various tasks (installing programs etc).

I had a filter in Linux, but it was using the user password, so disabling was really easy. Also, it was blocking websites it shouldn't, and was really slowing down the connection.

I can't think of any other solutions except the hosts file, or third party software (blocker, filter etc).

There might be another one, by changing the router settings... but it is still easily to unblock it.

  • Can you harvest electrical power from water pressure, or gravity?

  • What do you think about a self sustaining underwater city?

I have this awesome idea, that looks more from science fiction than reality, but I really like it.

Can you build a self-sustaining underwater city?

First problem is the placement. I think it would be best somewhere in the ocean not too deep, somewhere where there is a constant source of energy, such as a volcano, geyser or water current, and somewhere where light still penetrates.

There are several needs that we have, in order to live in a place:

    1. Food: Ocean is full of it (fish, etc), greenhouses can also be built

    2. Water: Ocean is full of it, it only needs desalinization

    3. Power: Generators that harvest the power of nature, such as geysers, underwater volcanoes, water currents, and even geothermal energy.

    4. Air: This is one of the problems, there has to be a way to generate enough oxygen and replace the CO2 in industrial quantities. Proper ventilation is required.

    5. The social element: Since this is a city, the buildings can be linked with tunnels, large parks, or gathering places...

    6. Transportation: Tunnels, eventually an underwater railroad system; submersibles can be used for transportation..

These are the problems that exist in creating such a project:

    1. Building under deep water, high pressure.

    2. Transportation of building materials at large distances

    3. Maintenance, any leak can be fatal. Of course, each room has doors that prevent water from going in other chambers, in cases of trouble.

    4. The air can be a problem, there has to exist a device to create massive quantities of oxygen

So what is your opinion about such a project. Can it be made?

  • Question about Windows 7 Security Policy?

In Windows 7, when I go to Local Security Policy - Local Policies - Security Options, there is an item called "Shutdown: Allow system to be shut down without having to log on".

Disabling it will hide the Shut Down buttons in the log on screen. The question is, do the power buttons (Power, Sleep, and the power button on the central unit) get disabled too?
