  • Why does life have to have meaning?

A common argument from Theists about Atheism is the the Atheist world is bleak and has no meaning. We wander around with our relative morals searching for that which we cannot find. Apparently a life without meaning is no life at all.

But why do we (being humans) have to have meaning? Do we expect other animals to have meaning as well in their lives?

  • Spiritually speaking... What foods do you serve at Christmas brunch/lunch/dinner?

I am very interested to also know where abouts in the world you are and what your belief system is, and how thise affects the choices on offer?

I live in Australia, north of Sydney. It will most likely be about 35-40 degrees Celsius (95-105 Fahrenheit). We tend to spend the day at the beach with a buffet style lunch of cold meats, salad and barbequed seafood.

On the day we have a mixture of religions. Christian, Jewish, Buddhist and me, Atheist.

  • Really strange plumbing issue...?

This morning when I went to have a shower, not hot water would come out. Water came out, but it stayed cold. I thought the heater might be faulty so I tried the kitchen and bathroom sink taps and they both have hot water. Just not the shower.

The fact that water comes out means that it can't be a leak, but I just can't seem to figure out what the problem is...

Can anyone out there in Y!A world help??

  • Print Shared Calenders Outlook 2003?

I have a team scheduling multiple interviews for around 12 staff members over a four week period. I am planning on using the calender function of Outlook2003 (with shared calenders), but have been searching fruitlessly for a way to print multiple shared calenders on one page (day to a page or two).

    Any help would be appreciated!!

  • Multiple Users accessing MS ACCESS?

I am workingn on a project at work and have created an Access databse to record all our info. However, I need a way to allow 6 people to access/update the records at the same time.

I have looked in the Help file, and whilst it says it can be done, it doesn't say how. Or at least not for a novice like myself.

    Any help would be appreciated!!

  • An ideal Birthday present...?

It is a few weeks until my only sister's 30th birthday. I was out of the country for her 21st, so want to get her something extra special for this one. The problem is that we are chalk and cheese. She is married, with two children and works. For other birthdays. Christmas etc. she generally asks for things that are really for the whole family. She really isn't into fancy perfume or cosmetics, or even fancy clothes or shoes.

I am at a real loss at what to get. I even asked her and she said "You coming to the party is enough of a present for me" (she is a master of the guilt trip).

Any ideas would be helpful. I guess the budget would be up to $500.

  • The R&S Monarch?

As we are all claiming position in the new R&S hierachy, I am now declaring myself the Queen of R&S. I see the Prime Minister and Mayor have already announced themselves.

    I just need a King...

  • Christians - Jesus died for your sins...?

God sent Jesus to Earth to die for your sins. Technically speaking then, everyone who sinned is responsible for the death of Jesus.

Why do you all blame the Jews or even the Romans, when you should place the blame squarely where it is - at the feet of Christians.

  • Where children come from....?

It seems that those who are oppsed to homsexuality use the fact that people of the same sex cannot reproduce as the reason why it is unnnatural. You need a man AND a woman to crete life they say.

So does this mean that God is married, or were all men able to have children before the Apple Incident.

  • Free Will...?

Isn't the fact that we have free will lead us to a God that does not interfere will our lives (deist) as opposed to one who plays puppet master (theist)?

If so, then all this praying, worshipping and hatred is wasted, and all good people go to heaven regardless of who or what they believed.

  • If God is unable to die, and God and Jesus are one and the same...?

Then how did Jesus die for your sins. Isn't it more accurate to say Jesus slept in for your sins?

  • Who would be the one going to hell...?

I was having a conversation today. My friend said that no matter how good the Atheist was, they would not go to heaven (she is Christian). So my question is, if one of the following were to go to hell, which would it be...

    1. A nun who has devoted her entire life to the worship of God. A life spent in prayer and near solitude in a convent somewhere removed from society in general.

    2. A Christian, who attended church weekly, and bible study, married a fellow Christian, raised 4 Christian children. Protested on weekends about the evils of homosexuality and petitioned for the removal of the theory of evolution from the school syllabus.

    3. An Atheist who spent their entire adult life volunteering in Africa, helping save lives. Not getting paid, living in near squalor. Gunned down by the rebels.

So to the point of this question - Do people go to hell based on their beliefs or their actions (assuming of course that God and hell etc actually existed)?

    Subway

    Bagel

    KFC

    Hungry Jacks (Burger King)

    Japanese

    Chinese

MYOB (where I pay to make my own sandwich)

Baskin & Robbins (is it a sin to have ice-cream for lunch)

  • Should Religion and personal beliefs interfere with the workplace?

    Further to my previous question:

    http://au.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=200...

Should someone's religious and/or personal beliefs interfere with the work they perform. Even if they took the job, knowing that they would be required to do something that was against their belief.

  • A questions for all theists...?

Some taxi drivers in Sydney are refusing to carry blind people with guide dogs, citing religious reasons.

Could someone please tell me what religion specifically states that a blind person and guide dog cannot ride in a taxi?

  • Baby Catherine...?

Will Maurice Jacobson offering to buy the mother of Baby Catherine a home if she comes forward an incentive for other mothers to abandon their baby, then come forward when the reward is at a suitable level?

"The mother of abandoned baby Catherine has been pledged the biggest incentive yet if she comes forward — a $300,000 home.

Maurice Jacobson said he will buy the mother an apartment wherever she wants it, according to newspaper reports."

    (from NineMSN News)

I'm not saying this is the reason that the mother in question abandoned her child, but it could encourage some less scrupulous people...

God gave his only son, the job of being the messiah, saviour of mankind etc. This seems like favouritism to me.
