Bio Retention Area - removing it?

I just purchased a new house in Howard County, MD. There is a bio-retention area approximately 12 feet from the house (the ground slopes away from the house in all directions).

I would really like to raise the cleanout pipes and fill in the giant cavity with dirt, but I can't find any information about that.. Everything I find is about installing one.

Can I legally fill in the bio-retention area (or rain garden)?

I'm planning to build a deck on the rear of the house that would extend into the bio-retention area so it would really help if I can fill it in or move it.

Would the county inspector say something if he came out to inspect the deck and saw that I filled in the bio-retention area?

    Thanks.

  • I'm a wannabe Autocad Programmer?

I've been working in the engineering field as a designer for almost 20 years (I'm 40). I put myself through school for AA in Computer Programming (graduated in 2000), BS in Information Systems (graduated in 2006), and now I'm obtaining my MS in Information Systems. I'm a Designer making really good money, 80-100k depending on overtime, but I'm not happy with the work/company.

I would like to become a programmer, but don't know how to make the transition without taking a huge paycheck. I'm sure companies could hire someone fresh out of college who could program circles around me for half the salary. I have educational experience with most programming language (C++, PL/SQL, Java). I have written small programs within CAD using Autolisp and Visual Basic but I wouldn't say I'm an expert by any means.

I guess my question is how do I make the transition to a programmer without taking a huge paycut?

Do I need to focus on one programming language and become proficient in that? If so, which language?

I ultimately envisioned myself as a CAD manager or CAD administrator, but there aren't many of those opportunities available and usually companies just use a Drafter or Designer they already have to support that role on a part time basis. And my current boss is an idiot who doesn't value the power of computers or automation.

I appreciate any insight you can provide, especially when CAD managers or programmers already in that role.

    Thanks,

  • Jump Start Motorcycle from AC outlet?

I'm looking for a plug-in Battery Charger that can start my motorcycle in case I leave the keys in the ignition (again).

I have saddle bags on my bike and carry a battery tender, but that charge is so slow, it'll take hours before it charges enough to start the bike.

I'm just wondering if such a charger exists, that I can plug in and instantly (or a reasonable amount of time) start the bike.

I've searched the internet but can't seem to find any such thing.

    Thanks for any help.

  • KVM switch for Laptop & Desktop with 2 monitors?

I am trying to find a KVM Switch that will handle this setup? any suggestions?

Desktop is Intel i5 currently running Windows XP, but will upgrade to Windows 7 soon. Desktop has dual monitor setup with one video card.

Laptop is running XP and will probably get Win7 soon as well.

I would like to be able to plug in the laptop to my desktop's keyboard, monitors and mouse via a KVM switch. Is there a way I can use the dual monitors, keyboard/mouse from the desktop with the laptop.

I have seen one monitor KVM switches, but is there support for dual monitors and if so, once I plug in the laptop, I guess I would have to use the desktop's 2 monitors and not the laptop screen.

I would appreciate any suggestions on switches to help with this setup.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Workout Routine for a Married Couple?

ok, here's my dilemna. My wife and I are trying to workout together, but we each like different things.

    I work out 6 days a week. a 3 day cycle twice a week.

Day 1: 30 minutes of Elliptical, Chest & Triceps, 30 minutes of Bike

Day 2: 30 minutes of Elliptical, Back & Biceps, 30 minutes of Bike

Day 3: 30 minutes of Elliptical, Shoulder & Legs, 30 minutes of Bike

My wife doesn't have a set schedule so she does my routine when she can. She usually does the Zumba dance class or run on the treadmill when she goes by herself. She doesn't really like weights. "they are boring" according to her.

I'm trying to figure out some routine where I can get my weight training but keep it interesting and fun for her.

    Any suggestions?

  • Buy a house to rent to my mother?

My wife and I are looking into buying an investment house to rent. My mother rents a townhouse with most of the rent being subsidized by the state (Section 8 is what I believed it's called).

Is there any problems with buying a house and renting to my mother, especially since the state pays most of her rent.

I'm not sure of the legal ramifications of that situation or if it is even legal.

  • Change Yahoo Answers email?

I'm having major difficulties changing my yahoo answers email.

I had my school acccount (umbc.edu) receiving the yahoo answers email, but I would like to remove that account completely.

I sign into yahoo answers via my yahoo.com email, but for some reason I can't get my yahoo answers email to come to the yahoo.com email address.

On my main page, I see my *.umbc.edu, but when I go to edit my preferences, the only emails I see are my yahoo.com and verizon.net emails. Under edit my preferences, I go to "manage emails" and still only see yahoo.com and verizon.net emails, nowhere else outside of the main page, do you I see my umbc.edu email.

How can I remove the umbc email and change my yahoo answers to my yahoo or verizon email.

    thanks.

  • Running Electric to Shed - advice please?

I live in a townhouse and want to run electric from house to shed, which is only 10 feet away from rear of house (breaker cabinet is located on wall closest to shed). Entire run should only be 20 feet. 5 from Fuse cabinet, 10 from house to shed, 5 inside of shed.

In shed, I want light switch to control 2 lights as well as permanently powered outlet.I'm not an electrician but I have rewired most of the inside of my house. My questions are regarding outdoor wiring and proper technique.

I would like to run cable above ground on the outside along a concrete barrier wall, inside conduit. Is that acceptable? Should I pour a little concrete over that conduit to "seal" it from the elements?

The shed is a lifetime plastic shed. What is best option for cutting the hole for that shed and sealing it to make sure there is no leakage inside?

I'm cool with the wiring portion, just not sure about the logistics of running the electric outside and cutting thru the shed. I appreciate any insight you can provide.

P.S. I have no grass, city house with all concrete and don't want to bust up the concrete.

    Thanks.

  • Best Portable Sirius receiver?

I have a lifetime Sirius subscription, but barely use it anymore because Sirius is blocked at work and I usually listen to CDs in the car.

I would like to get a new portable receiver for:

    1. Use at gym as a MP3 player

    2. Record Howard Stern or Sports and listen to during work.

    3. Use in the car as well for talk and/or music.

I usually use the internet to listen when I'm home I have no need for the receiver.

Any recommendations on what will be the best for me.

I can't access Sirius at work, even just to look at the receivers.

I do know they have the Stiletto but I hear alot of bad reviews about that.

I noticed XM has something called the XMP3 which looks pretty good, but can you use that with Sirius?

    Thanks for the help.

  • Fantasy Football. need to drop one?

    QB - Cutler, Roethlisberger

WR- Calvin Johnson, Reggie Wayne, Crabtree, DeSean Jackson, Dexter McCluster

RB-Mendenhall, Beanie Wells, Donald Brown, Hightowner, Sproles, LT

10 team keeper league and we get points for kick returns.

I don't have a kicker right now and need to drop one of the above.

I'm thinking Roesthlisberger but not sure I want to go with Cutler for the seaosn.

McCluster would make sense, but I love his potential and the Chiefs are using him everywhere.

Any suggestions? I even thought about punting the kicker slot, but that's just not smart.
