Japanese radicals?
I've read a bunch of sites saying how useful radicals are but I don't understand the point of them.
So you know two radicals which make up a kanji characters, such as 右. This kanji means "right" and the On is u, or yuu and the Kun is migi.
How does knowing that the top radical and the kuchi underneath it help me figure anything out??
1 AnswerLanguages6 years agoJapanese grammar, から vs. ので?
I went through some of an online grammar site for japanese and it said that both kara and node can be used to combine 2 sentences with "so". Since there are two of them, are they interchangeable? It didn't really say which one to use when, except that kara was more casual.
1 AnswerLanguages6 years agoWhat does 授業が面白くない? mean? I thought it would be... The class is not interesting? But the translation says: Isn't (his) class interesting?
I literally translated it to:
Class ga interesting not?
2 AnswersLanguages6 years agoWhy is the kunyomi used in this case?
The sentence is:
これは私の兄です。And I have to type out what 兄 means in this sentence.
I thought that since it doesn t have any hirigana attached, you would use the onyomi, But I know that in this particular sentence the kanji is standing for あに. Can someone explain why?
And is it the same reason for this one?(私は)五月五日にテストがあります。
Where I have to find out what 五日 stands for and I put the onyomi, but the answer was いつか which is the kunyomi.
1 AnswerLanguages6 years agoOnyomi vs. Kunyomi?
I understand the difference and know that onyomi is the Chinese translation, and used when there are multiple kanji characters in a word.
I was wondering, if I were to use the word hon (the onyomi translation) and for some reason couldn t remember the kanji, and instead wrote it out, would I use katakana or hirigana?
On all the sites, "hon" is "hon" written in katakana (aka onyomi), whereas it is "moku" in hirigana (aka kunyomi).
1 AnswerLanguages6 years agoWay to make eyebrow hair grow?
I went to get my eyebrows threaded and the lady cut some of my longer eyebrow hairs near the point of my eyebrows and now not only are they non-symmetrical but one eye looks like there is a bald spot.
I'm hoping the hair will grow again but worried because once I trimmed some hairs near that location and they never grew back to the same length.
Is there something I can do to stimulate growth in these hairs?
1 AnswerHair6 years agoHow long should I wait for the rest of my deposit?
I moved out in Sept 2014 and for a month my deposit was lost in the mail (USPS fault) and then I finally got a check for most of my deposit but it was short $100 so I told them that I was supposed to get an extra $100 and the company agreed.
They "sent" the $100 in the mail and it never came so I drove down to SoCal to notify them (Dec) and then I was told that the week of the 20th they would send a check for the $100. Now it's Feb and I still haven't gotten it and I've tried emailing but haven't gotten a response. I haven't cashed the original check because I wanted to do it at the same time.
How long should I have to wait for this? Thinking about telling them I'm going to take legal action so they can get their act together and send my $100.
1 AnswerLaw & Ethics6 years agoThrobbing tooth?
A few months ago I had a cavity filled and the dentist told me that it was deep and make sure that I don't put anything hot or cold for the next few weeks.
I made sure not to eat on that side, or get anything hot or cold on it.
However, this morning I woke up and the tooth was throbbing but after a minute or so the throbbing went away and don't come back.
Should I be concerned?
My dentist said that if the tooth is continuously stimulated the nerve will die and I will need a root canal (in sort of a worst case scenario).
2 AnswersDental6 years agoIs my relationship over? Any insight appreciated.?
I've been dating my boyfriend for over 2 years. About half a year ago I moved to be closer to my family and three months after that I've been thinking my relationship is over.
When I first met my boyfriend he was everything I was looking for. He was on the road to a great career, I found him attractive and he was and has always been incredibly nice.
I still find him a little attractive but I feel like it's always missing something. He left school to pursue his passion, and I'm happy for him but I find myself thinking about the future and don't know if there is a future.
I tried asking my friend if she feels just as excited with her boyfriend as she did years before when they first got together and she said that she does.
I find myself getting frustrated that sometimes I have to explain the simplest of things to him or he asks me to solve his problems when he could do it himself if he had the initiative. My dad has always taught me to take initiative. I also feel that he's always telling me he loves me but it's suffocating (i have talked to him about before) and I find him getting more clingy as time passes.
I don't know if it's because I'm focused on my family and other things that Ive pushed this to the back burner but any advice would be appreciated.
I feel anxious to end a relationship because he really is a nice, great guy who treats me right. (Even though I do wish he had some romantic bone in his body, like randomly buy flowers a few times a year).
1 AnswerSingles & Dating6 years agoAnime like love hina or chobits with closure ending?
I was wondering if there s other animes like Love Hina or Chobits that actually have a fullfilling ending, as in the guy confesses his love and they actually get together.
I did read all of Love Hina manga for more "closure" but wanted to watch something new.
I did watch Clannad and Clannad After Story (which made me cry like a baby) but I still want to watch more.
I didn t like Ah! My Goddess or Suzuka.
3 AnswersComics & Animation6 years agoWhy is that some people with Ammex get automatic increases in limits but other have to request it?
My friend and I both have an Ammex card, but he gets automatic credit limit increases, currently at around 2000 whereas mine has been at 1200 for years. I get periodic emails to request an increase, but my friend has never gotten an email like that.
Why is it that he doesn't have to request it, but I do?
1 AnswerLaw & Ethics7 years agoFluffy cupcake icing?
I got cupcakes from a bakery and they had a VERY light and fluffy icing on top and it WASN'T buttercream.
I was wondering what it is called, if anyone knows what i'm talking about.
They had it in multiple flavors and everything but when i but into it, it was airy like whipped cream, but not like the whipped icing in the store.
Do you think it might be like meringue icing?
4 AnswersCooking & Recipes7 years agoHow many calories are you supposed to eat while exercising to lose weight?
I've been eating 1400 - 1500 calories a day and then I exercise using insanity and estimate that I burn about 300 calories doing that.
Am I supposed to eat at least 1200 including the calories lost from exercising or total after the exercising?
3 AnswersDiet & Fitness7 years agoWhich fish have high omega 3 without that fishy taste?
I'm looking towards eating healthier and I bought tilapia because it doesn't have that fish taste but it is low on omega 3.
Salmon and tuna have that fishy taste I don't like so I was wondering if people knew of fish without that strong taste.
I looked up fish names and was wondering if any of them didn't have that strong fish taste.
5 AnswersCooking & Recipes7 years agoNot getting toned with insanity?
This is my second real attempt at insanity. The first time I was about 20 pounds lighter and was doing the exercises daily, but eating whatever I wanted and I really saw myself getting toned.
This time, i'm 20 pounds heavier (since life got in the way) and i'm trying to eat healthy meals for all my meals and haven't seen much a change inches wise.
Is there some reason for this? I'm eating about 1400- 1500 calories a day, I have one cheat food of chips, but I try to only eat some chips, not the whole bag or anything.
I keep track of my food and I try to eat at least 20 - 30% protein, the rest between carbs and fat, but sometimes the fat seems high since avocado is fatty.
2 AnswersDiet & Fitness7 years agoKitten making crunching/grinding sounds throughout the day?
I have a 4 mo. old kitten, who out of the blue, starting making these crunching/grinding sounds with her mouth. I notice it especially when she gets up to stretch after sleeping, but she makes them throughout the day.
I looked at her gums to see if there was something dental but her gums are pink and i poked her teeth to see if the sound is from her loose teeth, but they're fine as well.
She has lost 2 of her baby teeth since the sound started but it's still there.
She is eating normally, and playful. I just wish I knew how to stop that sound because it's such a painful sound! It sounds like when you bite down on something hard, and you think you cracked your tooth but it was just food breaking.
Has anyone had similar experiences?
1 AnswerCats7 years agoCan't be present during a final inspection?
I'm moving out on a Sunday (next month) and the office says I can't be there during my last day for a final inspection because the people who would be conducting the inspection are only in the office Tues through Fri. Are they allowed to do that or can I request someone become available on Sunday?
Their office is open everyday, so it isn't like i'm asking someone to come in when they're closed.
1 AnswerLaw & Ethics7 years agoDoes eating salmon with mayo defeat the purpose of it being healthy?
I hate the taste of salmon but i'm trying to eat healthier. I lightly dip the salmon in a sauce I make at home but its base is mayo with honey, lemon juice, etc.
Does doing this defeat the purpose of eating healthy? I know salmon is healthy while the sauce is not but is it okay to lightly dip it in the sauce so it's easier to eat?
