Me, Thrice-Baked
http://video.stumbleupon.com/#p=q6lxf84q2h Agnostic-Atheist, Humanist. Madly in love with the kindest and most beautiful woman in all the universe. There are two subjects I will not bend on: ANY violence against children and the absolute right of homosexual marriage. I believe any and all physical punishment should be outlawed. There are so very many ways to deal with children who act (shock and horror!) like children in a positive disciplinary manner and if you'd like to know them, please e-mail me anytime. To deny homosexuals the right to marry is the most absurdly ridiculous notion in the world. Your private church can do as it pleases but to act as if two people in love should have less liberties than you do is reprehensible to me. I also believe that stem cell research is the greatest hope we have thus far in possibly curing disease and injury. To oppose it is an opposition to humanity. Favorite book ever: "A Death In The Family" by James Agee. Absolute poetry. Peace
Why do many Christians on here insist that prayer must be in supplication to God?
I received some really insulting and demeaning responses for saying that I pray to the whole of humanity in this question:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Apr3U...
According to The Collaborative International Dictionary of English,Praying does NOT solely mean worshiping God, "prayer" is also defined as: 1. The act of praying, or of asking a favor; earnest request or entreaty; hence, a petition or memorial addressed to a court or a legislative body. 2.The form of words used in praying; an expressed petition. I was repeatedly asked who I am praying to (although the answer to that was quite clear in the question itself) and how can I pray if it's not to God? I say, REREAD THE DEFINITION OF PRAYER. Please. I can do it any time, sitting here, going there, whatever. I pray to the whole of humanity in the hope their actions and words will be utilized for the advancement and betterment of mankind.
4 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoChristians: Why do so many of you believe that Atheists can't pray?
Since when did you all corner the market on prayer? I am a humanist. I pray to the whole of humanity. It's quite insulting to realize that many of you believe an atheist cannot pray if they don't believe in a God (or your God).
20 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoCould you all join me in a round of the Atheist's Prayer?
26 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhy in God's name are my questions not showing up on the boards?
People can only read them if they go to my profile and then click on My Questions. It's ridiculous. Funnily enough, questions like this go up immediately. I'm getting a little paranoid here. Can they refuse to allow legitimate questions? Why are questions like this allowed but not ones about atheism? Sca-aa-ary.
P.S. If you'd like to prove me wrong, go to my questions on my profile page and check when they were sent. Then go to R&S and check if they've been posted to the board itself.

10 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoHow's this for the truth in politics (and a lie about Christians)?
President Bush wanted to use a local church for a photo op. His advance man said to the pastor, "We will make a $10,000 contribution to your church if, during your introduction of the president, you say he is a saint."
The pastor agreed and accepted the $10,000 contribution.
In introducing the President before a nationally televised audience, the pastor began, "George Bush is a nitwit and a petty, self-absorbed hypocrite. He stole the 2000 election and probably the 2004 election as well," the reverend continued. "He has polarized the country. He has politicized science. He lied about his military record. He invaded a country on totally false pretenses... (Cont'd)
7 AnswersLaw & Ethics1 decade agoHas anyone on R&S read the book A Death In The Family? What do you think of the portrayal of Christianity?
And no, this does not belong in the "books" section for you traditionalists out there. I asked it there ages ago.
By James Agee. It's sad because I'm always telling my novel-friendly friends to read it but only my mate has. I think it's the title that turns everyone off. Don't let it. It is beautiful and tragic. For theists and non-theists alike. I think it should be a required read for life. Of course I am biased. I believe this book saved my life in many ways (no, not in a religious way). After I read the first section of about 4 pages (called "Knoxville Summer, 1915") I put it down for a month because I was too moved and felt too familiar to read further. Seriously. It's just that beautiful. It took me a month to digest the brilliant poetry of those first 4 pages. The rest is a knockout. There are a few italicized sections wherein the editors chose where they thought Agee (who won the Pulitzer posthumously) would have put them. Pure poetry.

As this question was deleted the first time I have reworded it slightly and I hope that those of you who didn't catch it the first time have the pleasure of seeing it now.

9 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoIs the word 'faith' an acknowledgement that one may, in fact, be wrong?
Faith and reality are not always the same thing. The word 'faith' connotes that one believes they could be wrong as well as right.
14 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoIs MORALITY determined by a personal relationship with Jesus Christ?
Does it matter that this reduces morality to individual piety?
Oops. Asked this question earlier with the word "faith" instead of "morality". Made no sense whatsoever.
