  • is it possible to founder a thin horse?

i just bought a 16.2 hand gelding that's been out on a dry lot. he's been getting round baled grass hay, but the rest of the herd ran him off a lot. i'm having him delivered this weekend to my barn. there is lush green grass in all of my pastures. how should i go about turning him out? is it possible to founder an underweight horse this time of year if i just put him out on pasture from around 5 pm until 6 am?

  • anyone ever heard of blue ridge brand saddles?

i found an all purpose saddle that looks really nice in pictures. it's a blue ridge brand. all i know is that this brand apparently is made in argentina, and the few i've seen used usually sell for under 200 dollars. i'm assuming this is some low end economy brand.... but does anyone know anything else about this brand? if you have ever owned or ridden in one how was the quality?

  • when does sleeping in a parent's bed need to stop?

my girlfriend has a 12 year old son that she still allows to sleep in bed with her when i'm working at night. on my nights off her son sleeps on the couch (he has his own bed) and she allows this, but he makes up some excuse or reason to come in the bedroom or get her out of bed (like mom can you make me something to eat, or mom i'm cold turn the heat up, or mom im scared i heard something) i understand feeling secure with a parent is a normal part of childhood but isnt 12 a bit old to still be in this phase? the boy will be 13 soon. am i unreasonable in my thinking that he needs to be in his own bed ALL the time and my girlfriend is doing more harm that good?

  • 14g straight barbell.... beads stuck.. how do i get them off?

i have a three week old tongue peircing and the bar is now too long after all the swelling is gone. i have a shorter bar to replace it but i can't get the beads to unscrew. how can i (safely) loosen them up? i'm not sticking a dirty pair of pliars in my mouth!

**the barbell is internally threaded if that makes a difference

  • the great cat food debate....?

i just found a great little pet store that sells super premium cat food near my new house (just moved to a new town). the best thing available to me before was royal canin so now that there is something better available i want to switch my cats to a new (better) brand, but i'm not sure which is best for my kitties. the choices i have are:

Merricks BG (before grain) in chicken, salmon, or tuna variety

    Solid Gold katz-en-flocken

    Natural Balance all life stages

    Nutro

my cats are 9 and 8 month old siamese males (both neutered). they are the extreme show type and are about to begin their adult show careers so it's VERY important that their coat quality remains and that their weights do not increase (i know food alone isnt the cause of wieght gain as much as how much they're being fed)

  • vision changes, blurry with floaters what's wrong?

i woke up from bed with slightly blurred vision in both eyes. it totally cleared in one eye within a few minutes but one eye is still blurry/cloudy and i'm seeing spots and flashes of light and color that will not go away. it gets better for a while but then comes back. overall though my vision isnt getting any worse and it's only in one eye. i'm at work and cannot see a doctor until i get off in the morning. what should i do until then?

** i'm not diabetic, i havent had any injuries or trauma (to cause a retinal detachment), my blood pressure isnt high, and i don't have any headaches

  • rescue staffy mix... would i be a good home?

i've been looking for a pit bull for some time and i found a staffy mix at a local rescue that needs a home. he's 1 1/2 old bridle and white (which i'm partial to) but i want to make sure i could provide a good home for him. he's been temperment tested with kids (i dont have any), animals (gets along great with all animals), and people. he would be the only dog and would be inside and outside with supervision. i have a 6 foot fenced yard and he would never be let off leash outside the fence. i've been pre-approved to get the dog if i want him. i really like him but want to make sure i can give him the best home! i've had other dogs in the past (chihuahuas, doxies, coc*** spaniels, bassett hounds, beagles, mutts) so this wouldnt be my first dog, but it would be my first bully breed

  • siamese breeders/owners... general questions?

some background information... this will be my first pedigreed cat. the kitten comes with current vaccines, 1 year genetic health guarantee, and will already be altered. it will be at least 16 weeks old before the breeder will re-home it. i've already been through the screening process and approved by the breeder to purchase... i just need to select my kitten and make a deposit to hold it.

    1) whats the average price of a pet quality kitten from two GC parents with CFA titles and multiple generations of champions in pedigree?

    2) is royal canin (what the breeder feeds) ok for cats or would it be better to use evo or cannidae

    3) are there any questions i should ask the breeder before i put a deposit on a kitten, that i dont already know (see above information)?
