I'm a Hobby-Farmer and follow a Buddhist path. I do not, however, believe in the super-natural in any form; ghosts, gods, ghoulies, auras, visions, spirits, etc. I do believe most people in the world are greedy, self-centred and intolerant so strive to be none of those things myself. Can't change anyone else, anyway, only me!

  • Why do americans think they speak English when they clearly don't?

I have seen people refer to their US language as American, which doesn't seem right when it is clearly English-as-Spoken-by-Americans. I'm English, I live in England and speak English. What is the american view on this, please?

  • I have a Goji Berry Plant not doing anything?

It's about 10' tall and three years old - but has never so much as produced a flower bud, let alone any berries! What can I do to help it along? It's in very rich soil and is watered regularly - although not waterlogged. It shares the bed with a 'Peony Bowl of Beauty' which is doing very well and a sedum, also growing well.

I'm at a loss! Please help.

  • Name for a little boat?

We have care of a 14' open dayboat. Currently named "Piker 1" - which is simply not acceptable under any circumstances. Yes, I know about the 'bad luck' thing, but I have a ceremony to ask the gods to look favourably on her!

She's going to be blue and white and be used exclusively on rivers and along the coast. Not really for fishing, although we might, more for floating from pub to pub along the river!

    What do you suggest??

  • My New MacBook is tricksy . . .

I am having to move the cursor one character at a time, ie. I can't go quickly to the beginning of a line or paragraph - or especially the top or bottom of a page. Anyone out there know how I can do this?

    Thanks

  • How can I help my grown-up Daughter?

Her company is treating her very unfairly and she is extremely upset. She has put everything into her job and they are now (falsely) accusing her of dishonesty. I feel for her and want to help, any suggestions apart from simply "being there"?

  • Why can't anyone on Y!A spell or punctuate properly?

You'd think they would use the spellchecker if they weren't sure, wouldn't you? Don't they teach English as a subject at school any more? Particularly in the ol' US of A, apparently not! Oh, and, yes, I am a bit of a pedant about this!

  • If my neighbour owes me money for heating oil and won't pay?

because he wants a receipt from the company that supplies me with oil, is a receipt from *me* sufficient?. We share an oil tank. I pay for the oil and then he pays me for his (metered) usage. Does he have the right to have a receipt from the Oil Company? I don't think we can both claim home-business expenses on this same invoice nor do I think he has a business relationship with the company. I live in the UK and would appreciate some help here. Thanks

  • Darwin and Evolution?

Since if there is a supreme being it was His hand that directed evolution, and if there is none, evolution happened anyway, where is the conflict of theory? Can't both things be true? I speak, by the way, as an atheist, which is neither here nor there.

  • Is it possible to CHOOSE to believe in something?

As, in the same voice, people of various persuasions ask a gay friend of my why he "chose" to be gay. I would like to think it is possible, but I'm sure you are just born a person with a need to believe in a "higher being" or, like me, high enough to be the same as everyone else!

For the record, I did TRY to believe in God for many years, but eventually the complete lack of any evidence whatsoever in favour and overwelming evidence to the contrary triumphed!
