Just living my life in Colorado....

  • Hard Drive Upgrade (SATA/IDE)?

I'm upgrading the computer my folks have and have a question on moving everything over from one HDD to the other. The old HDD is a 15gb IDE drive and the new one I installed is a 250gb SATA II. (I also installed a SATA DVD drive). I was able to get both drives functioning (as well as the DVD) but in the BIOS, the hard drives show as Masters on different IDE channels (and the DVD as a secondary under the new hard drive). Since the old hard drive is small, what I want to be able to do is just install XP onto the new drive, move the other files over from the smaller drive and then pull the small one out altogether. My question is essentially whether or not I'm going to have any issues once I pull the small drive out as far as the BIOS recognizing the remaining disk. Should this whole thing just be automatic? Also, will I be able to reassign the new drive as the C: drive just for ease of future use? Any other advice would be appreciated.

  • What's the oddest thing that's hit you while on a motorcycle?

The other day riding my cruiser home from work, a tumbleweed crossed in front of me on a particularly windy day just before I got into a nasty thunderstorm. I'm a fairly new rider and while it would have been safe, I didn't go into a swerve to avoid the thing, thinking it would pass or it would bounce off the bike or something. Well, at 55 mph, the thing hit my left knee and it felt like a baseball hit me. (Who would have guessed?? It's a dead plant for crying out loud!) I am enjoying the small cut and the bruise and of course it's funny. Any others out there? Things I should watch out for other than the obvious!?

I'm making an antenna. If the gauge of the wire is approx 1.3mm and the diameter of the tube is 19mm, how long must the wire be (roughly) to completely wrap (once around) a tube that is 1 meter in length? (Answer doesn't have to be metric).

  • Mileage on a 99 Shadow Ace 750 ?

Is 24k miles on a 1999 Honda Shadow Ace 750 considered a lot or borderline with mileage on that engine? I'm looking for my first bike and want to be careful about a high mileage bike because I'll probably want to upgrade (sell or trade in) within a year or so and want to have optimal value. I'll probably only put a few thousand miles on it at best.

  • Best (beginner) motorcycle engine size at altitude?

I'm looking for my first bike and live in Colorado at 6,000 feet. I've heard that 750cc engines struggle a little up minor hills even on city roads. Am I better off looking at an 1100cc at this altitude or is that too much bike to handle to begin with? I take the MSF class next week and want to purchase a used bike soon after. I'm afraid of getting something too small only to want a larger engine, and I'd rather not have to try and sell to upgrade while I have a few thousand to spend on something bigger right now.

  • Good sport earphones?

Can anyone recommend a decent pair of earphones (or earbuds) that have good sound quality, will stay in your ears while working out, and don't pick up noise when the cord rubs against your clothes, etc? I'd prefer the price range of $75 and under...

  • Is the game show 'Wheel of Fortune' a testament to what is wrong with this world?

I mean come on, we all know there are three "O's" left in the puzzle, but these people feel compelled to buy them anyway.

When I see, "S_mewhere _ver The Rainb_w", I don't feel compelled to spend more money, I'm looking for the pot of gold. Please tell me the producers strongly encourage this behavior so the home viewers who may have problems figuring out the puzzles can feel like they win too... Otherwise I suspect these contestants enjoy the possibility of helping the other contestants win or spend hours flushing money down their toilets at home....

  • Poor spelling?

Why is it that there are so many people who cannot tell the difference between words like, "your" and "you're"? How about "their" and "there"? Is our educational system really going to hell in a handbasket?

  • Philosophical question of why a god would create us....?

If there is a truly omnipotent deity, who by that definition is all knowing and all powerful, why would it need to create a race of beings (such as ourselves) to 'serve him' and to 'spread his word' and live life a certain way to be able to live in a paradise at the end of your earthly life (or after 'judgement day', etc.)?

What do you suppose is the purpose of creating life only to struggle and suffer as much of the world does? If this deity knows how it will all turn out anyway, what is the point? Does it seem unusual that a deity of that nature would be so far above us that there's no way we'd be really necessary for it to create us as mere mortals?

  • Buckethead costume on-line??

Does anyone know where I can get a fairly complete Buckethead costume online? I know I saw something last year but don't seem to find anything now that I actually want to get one. I literally live thousands of miles from anyplace that would sell even pieces of this costume so would have to purchase online. Thanks for any help.

  • Approximately how many megabytes are 'downloaded' using a webcam?

Where I am, I have to pay download fees (around 7 cents per megabyte depending on the currency exchange rate) and I want to webcam with my kids in the USA. (There's only one choice for internet here). Anyone able to give me an estimate as to how many megabytes a webcam with VGA or TFT resolution actually 'downloads' in say a 15 minute webcam session or at least how to figure that?

  • Onset of migraines after exposure to trigger?

I'm wondering, on average, how long it takes people with migraines to get one after exposure to their particular triggers. Mine seem to be diet related (I've had every other test known to man with negative results) and I just get vertigo and then have a dull headache for 1-2 days. (I don't get the blinding pain type of migraine). If my guess is correct, mine seem to be triggered around 2 days from what I think my possible triggers are. Is that usual/unusual? Just curious.

  • HDTV Tuner Cards for PC?

Will an HDTV Tuner card for a PC tune in HD signals without the use of a separate HD cable or satellite box between the wall and the PC? Will it at least tune in the OTA signals? Some of the tuner cards I've seen have descriptions like 'HD compatible' or something that leads me to believe that the actual HD tuner is not built in, but requires the use of an HD cable box like some of the earlier generation big screens, for example...

I'll be living in Greenland for a while and plan to do some outdoor activities so would like something warm and waterproof (boots and gloves). Personal experiences with something would be appreciated, and prefer nothing extremely expensive.
