  • Flying dog from Hawaii to mainland, in carry-on?

Does anyone have experience with any airlines letting them fly a dog in carry-on to the mainland from the Honolulu international airport? I am moving back to be with my family and I have 2 small dogs - one is just barely under the size limit with his carrying case, but the other is chihuahua size. I am willing to do all I can to get them back safely.

If anyone has any info on what airline would be best (for example, American Airlines won't allow carry-on pets to or from Hawaii..so they're out of question), and actually allows this... please please let me know!

    Mahalo!

  • Flying with my 15lb dog?

    Some info first:

Traveling from Hawaii to the midwest in late summer or early fall.

I have a dog who is a mix but he is about the size of a small Welsh Corgi or a large dachsund.. Basically he is about 15-18lbs (we aren't sure yet and have to go weigh him soon) and is longer bodied with a little bit shorter legs like some spaniels have. I am trying to find out what type of carrier would work best for taking him with my husband and I when we move back to the mainland. We are trying to figure out any possible way to get him on as carry-on so he isn't as stressed as in cargo since he is small, but most carriers seem to be too short for his body. He is about 20 inches long to the middle of his head so if he is curled like he normally is when laying, he would be comfy. I have never flown with a dog and am trying to find out everything I possibly can in the months leading up to when we have to move back.

Thank you for any suggestions you can provide! We have found a small hard shelled carrier but his body was just a little too long. Any suggestions of certain brands to check out or a certain store that has a large selection to check out, would be greatly appreciated!!! Thank you!!!

  • If you work at Walgreens...?

    If you do..

I am interviewing with them tomorrow and really need this job. I applied for the photo area, the cashier job, and the beauty area.. I don't know if they'll just choose one for me based on the job opening or if there is space where they'll just ask me which I prefer. So I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or advice for which I should choose if I get a choice.

Also, if anyone works at any in Hawaii, do you know what they generally pay for someone starting off there? Thanks!

  • What is the pet policy for The Bus (Oahu, Hawaii) ?

If you have a cat or dog that fits into a pet carrying case/crate, are you allowed to bring the pet onto the public transportation bus on Oahu? If so, what is the cost?

    Thanks!

I have looked on their website and if no one is able to help me, I'll just email them or stop in their office sometime.

  • Cost to take small dog on flight from Hawaii to mainland using Hawaiian Airlines?

How much is it to take a small dog ( less than 25lbs.. chihuahua or dachshund size) from Oahu to the mainland on Hawaiian Airlines as carry-on? Also, does this deduct from your allowable carryons, leaving you one besides the pet? If so, does this take from your large or your small carry-on.

Thanks for any info! I would like to find this out before I decide to get a dog because I want to make sure I can afford to take the dog when I visit the mainland.

  • Living in Oahu - learn Hawaiian or Japanese?

I will shortly be living in Oahu. I would like to learn a 2nd language (English being my first) and when I have been in Hawaii before, I noticed the large amount of Japanese being spoken and required for some jobs. For anyone living on Oahu, would you recommend me learning Hawaiian or Japanese? Does Hawaiian get spoken much other than street names and such? I was mostly on the marine base or with my family when I visited before, but when I move there, I wasn't sure what would be best to do. I am a college student so I should be able to soak up the language well either way I go. I have begun to learn basic Hawaiian, such as counting.

Please do not advise against my moving to Oahu. My husbands family has lived there and we both have visited and love the culture and the environment of the island.

  • How much does it cost to register a car in Honolulu, Hawaii?

My husband and I are moving to Oahu in January. We are shipping a car with us, and I am looking into the costs for registering a vehicle there. I know there's about a $15 charge for inspection before we can get the registration, and I understand we have to have proper insurance, but what is the actual cost on average of registration for a car that was shipped in?

Our car weighs 2,995 lbs, it's a 2004 Chevy Malibu. Yes, there's a calculator to find the cost online at the DMV website, but it will not show the cost for a vehicle that was purchased outside Hawai'i. It just says to call them.

Anyone have experience with shipping over a car, approximately that weight, and know the cost?

    Thanks :-)

Or are those things that everyone would think of and end up not being in high demand because of the excess people choosing this. • Moving to Hawai'i, taking minimal stuff, but wanting to ship some stuff separately..?

Anyone have any idea how much it is to ship things from the mainland to Oahu, like a small microwave or a light box like a 1ft cube sized box of clothes? Those are just samples just to get an idea of the cost to ship various sizes/weights of things. I cannot find this info online and I am wondering what things would be worth shipping rather than buying new in Hawai'i. I understand (have visited there and have researched this move as much as possible) that products cost more there, but I know that shipping packages can be costly. I do not have enough that I would want to pay for a large container that many people use to ship pretty much their entire belongings from their house... just a few boxes of random things like that.

Any other info if you have made the mainland-->Hawai'i move, please let me know!!! Any info is appreciated! As I mentioned, I have visited and I have family who has lived there before, any tips for things like this are much appreciated. Thank you!

  • Baking apples/apple crisp?

I tried making apple crisp in the oven earlier and the apples did not turn out to be juicy and the topping was extremely dry. I followed this recipe:

    Apple Crisp

2 large baking apples, peeled, cored and sliced

    1/3 Cup old-fashioned rolled oats

1/3 Cup firmly packed brown sugar

    1/3 Cup all-purpose flour

    1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

    1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

    1/4 Cup butter or margarine

Prepare apples by peeling, coring and slicing. Place in bottom of a small casserole dish. In mixing bowl add oats, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and butter. Mix together until crumbly. You can use your hands to break up clumps. Bake at 375 degrees for 30 minutes.

Did I need to also add some water to the apples? The topping turned out more dry and powdery and like I said, the apples did not get moist. They started to seem to over cook after leaving it longer to bake the apples longer.

    Any suggestions? Thanks!

  • How to keep homemade rice crispies from drying hard?

When I made rice crispies last time, after they cooled off, they were no longer soft/squishy like when they were first made, or like they are at the store when you buy them. Any ideas how to keep them soft? I covered the dish as soon as they started cooling off and were still soft but did not want to sooner so the moisture from steam wouldn't be trapped in there or the plastic cover wouldn't stick to the side of the dish.

I made them with marshmallows, butter, and rice crispie cereal..or whatever the rice crispie box said to use.. is there a trick to make them stay soft? It was within that day that they got like that.. :(

Thanks! I love rice crispie treats and my husband got me one of the really big ones for my birthday..lol..so I'd love to learn how to make them on my own but where they don't get weird after cooling off. :)

  • Cali or Florida...............?

I want to move somewhere a lot warmer than Illinois, but of course, not too hot. I don't want to be in danger of hurricanes or earthquakes..is there anywhere in Florida or California that is affordable (I will be a recent college graduate, as well as my husband) but decently safe as far as those 2 things are concerned? I know that's a tough question, but I am fine with being a little ways (hour or two) from a beach. If I could live in Hawaii, I would, and I love the temp and everything there, and I know I could never get that on the mainland, but is there anywhere that is similar to what I am describing? And is affordable.. Or if there are any other places in states that aren't Florida or Cali but fit that description?

    Decent jobs available

Apartments with decent prices but not dingy and crappy.

Not affected much by hurricanes or earthquakes.

Thanks.. I know this is a lot to ask and probably not possible, but if you have any suggestions..that'd be wonderful!!!

  • Where to live in (northern) Florida?

My husband and I are looking to move to Florida. We will have graduated college and have bachelor's degrees. We will want to live somewhere with plenty of jobs (not just your part-time retail) but not be too expensive to live. It probably won't be for another year or so but we are looking into it early. Does anyone know where would be a good place for people like us? We would prefer somewhere in the middle of the state, not real close to a coast because of hurricanes (yes I know, they affect even the center of the state) but would want to live in an apartment for a while, most likely. Any ideas of towns that would have a good job market, be decently safe (not super high crime rates..) and not just a 'party' college town, would be great. Thanks!!!

  • Florida - poisonous snakes? Bears?

What kinds of things do I need to be aware of if I move to Florida? In particular, my husband and I are considering northern Florida, not really near the coast. Or we are also considering Georgia. But as far as northern/central Florida, are there any deadly spiders, poisonous snakes, bears, etc that I want to be aware of? I know there are panthers and aligators but are they really a problem? I have visited but mostly just drove straight to southern Florida. I will be moving from central IL where there is not a whole lot of anything but deer, coyotes, and squirrels, lol.

Thanks! I'd prefer to have information from those who live in the area but if you just really know about it well from research yourself, that's fine too.

  • dance praise mats work with regular ddr?

Just curious.. my husband and I got a pc dance praise game that came with the mat and we didn't know if it would work with regular DDR games (just the disk for different music). Also, if we get regular DDR game, is there a pc version or only xbox? And does anyone know if the mat will work with an xbox even though it was designed for pc? I am pretty sure xbox stuff works on pc but not vice versa typically.

    Thanks!

  • Is there anything I can add to water to make plant grow?

I am mostly wondering if there is anything from around the home that can be added. I don't know if sugar, or lemon juice or anything random like that would help lol. I have a plant that isn't doing so well. I've regularly watered it, I have it in miracle grow soil...but it didn't get enough sunlight over winter I think. I just want to sort of nurse it back to life. Any suggestions?
