If you use disposable diapers what brand do you prefer?
I have a four month old son who I have used Pampers on up to this point. Recently I switched Jim over to Huggies because I can by the jumbo box of 258 diapers for only 38 dollars at Costco. Then when I was talking to some girlfriends today about diaper brands some of the women talked about having a preference between brands. One woman said she actually preferred Huggies for her son because with Pampers all of the "wetness" seemed to just hold in the front...whereas she said the Huggies seemed to absorb the pee evenly through the diaper. If you use disposable diapers, which do you prefer? Or is there another brand you like?
14 AnswersNewborn & Baby10 years agoSleep training your baby...what did you do? If anything?
We are trying to do some mild sleep training with our baby boy.
He is now sleeping in his own room at night in his crib and for the past week and a half we have been working on sleep training with him.
Many of the books I have read advise that we don't always let our son fall asleep while breast feeding/being rocked...otherwise he will never learn to fall asleep on his own. So we have been doing a bed time routine every night. At 7 I breast feed and burp him, then 730 he gets a bath, then a little baby lotion massage , and gets dressed in his diaper and some cozy pjs. Then I rock him in the nursery and read him a short story. I will then let him breast feed for a few minutes just until hes drowsy - not asleep, burp him and them lay him in bed by 815.
However he then starts crying after a few minutes in the crib. I just stay in the nursery sitting in the rocking chair (where my son can not see me). Then every 5 minutes or so I will go over to him - not speak , but just rub his belly and make a shhhhhh sound until he calms and stops crying.
I have also tried putting on his mobile or his crib aquarium to distract him too and try to get him to fall asleep without crying.
Then once he is asleep I leave the nursery and he generally sleeps until about 4 am - then wakes up to be breast fed and then will continue to sleep until he gets up in the morning.
Everything I have read - as well as have been told by countless friends with babies - is that we should try to do sleep training now - rather then wait until hes older where it will become much harder to do.
From what I have read it should take your baby about 10 days for you as the parent to start seeing improvement. However its been just about ten days and it does not seem any easier for him to self soothe. We had a couple of nights where he went down really easily and went basically right to sleep, but more often then not there is crying.
Did you do any type of sleep training with your baby? Try to teach them to self soothe etc? Get them on a bed time schedule? If so what was your bed time routine like? Any tips for us? Something that worked for you! If you did try sleep training, how long was it before your baby went to bed at bed time and went to sleep pretty easily on their own most nights ?
4 AnswersNewborn & Baby10 years agoWhat was your baby's sleep schedule like at 3 months ?
Our son will be 3 and 1/2 months on Saturday.
Just wondering what other babies sleep schedules were like at this age?
He goes to bed around 9 or 10 pm, wakes up to breastfeed at around 4am. goes straight back to sleep until around 7am, wakes up to eat again and then goes back to sleep until 930 or 10am.
He then will be awake for the day - with a few naps throughout the day. He doesn't have naps at specific times yet. Despite me trying to get him on a nap schedule in the day time - it has not happened yet.
He just sort of takes 20 to 30 minute naps randomly throughout the day... Im hoping those mini naps consolidate into one or two longer naps during the day!
What was your babies sleep like at this age...when did your little one start sleeping through the night? My son is breast fed exclusively so from what I have heard it may take longer for a through the night sleep.
5 AnswersNewborn & Baby10 years agoWhat were your breasts like after you stopped breast feeding?
I am breast feeding my son and just wondering what to expect after I stop. I hope that I can breast feed him until he is a year old. If you breast fed for at least a year - what were your boobs like afterwards? Did they end up sagging or go back to pretty much normal?
Also to add - I was a small A cup pre-pregnancy - now with breast feeding I am a small B cup - so the change in my cup size was not dramatic like in some cases I have heard of.
(Baby boy is now 3 months old and exclusively breast fed)
10 AnswersNewborn & Baby10 years agoWhat time does/did your 3 month old go to bed at night?
My son is 3 months old, and I am just wondering what kind of sleep schedule your baby is on or was on at this age.
He has a bath at around 730, then gets his pajamas on and ready for bed. Then we cuddle up on the couch and he breast feeds at about 8 pm. Then he eats until he falls to sleep , I hold him a bit longer to make sure hes in a good sleep and then I go put him in his cradle.
So hes typically asleep by 830 , in bed by nine and then sleeps until about 4 am. Wakes up to eat and goes back to sleep until about 7am...eats again and back to sleep until about 930 when he gets up for the day!
Some people have told me they put their baby to bed at 630 or 7pm...so Im not sure if this is more for older babies? Or if I am keeping my baby up later than I should?
9 AnswersNewborn & Baby10 years agoDoes your baby ever wake up screaming out of a deep sleep?
My three month old son has done this 3 or 4 times now! He will be sound asleep and suddenly wake up screaming like something scared him or he hurt himself somehow??
Last night for example he was asleep in his cradle beside our bed and I was still awake just laying in bed. Suddenly he just started to scream, and as soon as I picked him up and cuddled him into my arms he stopped.
Anyone know what could cause this? My husband thought maybe a bad dream...I thought maybe a sudden stomach cramp or something?
Usually any time he wakes up he just kicks and rustles around and makes cooing sounds , so it worried me to have him just start screaming !!
6 AnswersNewborn & Baby10 years agoWhat are the chances of getting pregnant while breast feeding?
My husband and I have a 12 week old son and he is exclusively breast fed.
I still have not had my period come back yet since he was born and I have heard that breast feeding postpones your ovulation.
My doctor said that I can not go on the pill until I am done breast feeding my baby - which I plan to breast feed until he is 1 year old.
Right now we are just using the pull out method - we are not "trying" for another baby yet ..we want to wait a year or two. However I am just wondering if its true that breast feeding helps to prevent pregnancy.
Anyone else use the pull out method while breast feeding and find it effective?
We absolutely want more children - but my husband and I would like to enjoy the time with our son first before we rush more children.
7 AnswersPregnancy10 years agoCan you change your babies sleep schedule? Is it OK to do so?
My baby boy will be 3 months old on July 2nd.
As of now he goes to bed around 10 or 1030, wakes up at 4am and 7am to eat - but goes straight back to sleep afterwards and sleeps in until about 10 or 11 in the morning.
I want to try to change his schedule to get him to bed earlier at night. Even if I can get him to bed around 8 or so , and then have him up at 7 or 8 in the morning.
However I have tried getting him up earlier in the mornings but he just falls right to sleep - even if I try to play with him and entertain him - the second I set him down for a few minutes in his swing or vibrating chair etc - he will fall asleep.
Same as in the evenings if I try to get him to sleep earlier it just does NOT happen. I will give him a bath, get him in his pjs, feed him and cuddle quietly with him but he is just wide awake lol.
I'm just wondering if there is any way I can start to change his sleep schedule so that hes in bed a little bit earlier. Or if I should just leave it the way it is now and wait until he is a bit older before I worry about getting his bed time schedule changed.
Any tips or advice?
3 AnswersNewborn & Baby10 years agoHow long did sex hurt after you had your baby?
My baby boy will be 11 weeks on Saturday.
We have been having sex since 7 weeks after delivery.
I had a pretty bad tear and required stitches so we took things pretty slow.
I had my post -partum check up with my OBGYN and he said everything looked "great" and healed up nicely.
However I still find sex really painful ! I feel totally normal down there EXCEPT when we have sex, Im just wondering how long I can expect sex to be painful for?
3 AnswersNewborn & Baby10 years agoHas any one tried the baby bullet?
My son is only ten weeks and is breast fed right now.
However when the time comes to start introducing baby food I would love to make it myself.
We have a blender already but I keep seeing ads for the baby bullet! It looks great , just wondering if anyone else has tried it? Is it worth purchasing or is a regular blender no different?
4 AnswersNewborn & Baby10 years agoWhat are your babies sleeping patterns like/ were they week at 10 weeks?
Our baby boy is 10 weeks old now.
He goes to bed around 10 , sleeps until 4 am, wakes up to breastfeed.
Goes back to sleep until about 7, wakes up to eat again.
Then will go back to sleep once again until about 10.
Then however I find he does not really nap at all during the day time. Maybe a little 20 minute cat nap here or there, but that's it.
Today however when he got up to eat at 730 I kept him up and got him ready because we had our first baby swim class today at 9. (Its a program for babies offered at our local YMCA)
Then we got home and after he ate I put him in his swing and he fell asleep around 1130 -12 and has been sleeping ever since!
Its been nice because I was able to make and eat lunch, do some laundry, have a shower and get ready etc.
Im wondering if I should just start trying this new schedule instead - rather than let him sleep that extra 2-3 hours in the morning, get him up for the day when he wakes up to eat at 7 instead of rocking him back to sleep. At least that way it would give me the chance to get more done in the day while he naps.
What was your baby's sleep patterns like at 10 weeks?
5 AnswersNewborn & Baby10 years agoHow long did you keep your baby in your bedroom for sleeping at night?
My baby boy will be ten weeks old tomorrow :)
We still have him sleeping in our bedroom in his cradle, I would not have it any other way right now! We are still nervous first time parents and I still find myself checking on the baby several times a night to make sure hes warm enough, make sure hes breathing , etc haha.
Just wondering when you started putting your baby in their own room?
We of course have baby monitors - a regular one and also a video one. So when the time comes we can still monitor him from our own room at night!
Also hes not sleeping through the night yet, he goes to bed around 930 or 10 and wakes up to eat at around 4 - 430, then goes back to sleep until about 8, gets up to eat once again and then will sleep for another hour or two - getting up for the day around 930 or 10. So until hes sleeping "through the night" - until at least 6 or 7, not waking up at 4, I don't see much point in moving him to the nursery. I'm breast feeding so at this point its easy to just grab him from his cradle and feed him in bed!
11 AnswersNewborn & Baby10 years agoHow do you know when to breast feed once you start to feed solids too?
My baby is 8 weeks old and exclusively breast fed. I know I won't be introducing any baby food for a Few more months but when I do how will I know when to breastfeed? Do you feed the baby 'baby food' at breakfast, lunch and dinner and then breast feed the rest the times baby is hungry in the day and evening? Also would you breast feed for a bit following giving them baby food so that they are getting some fluids too?
I'm hoping to breastfeed for a year, that's my goal anyways...just wondering how you know when to do it and how often once you star offering baby cereal and baby food?
6 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoWhen did your period return after birth?
My son will be 8 weeks tomorrow. I had not been bleeding at for a few weeks now. . . I bled about four weeks after delivery. Just today I started spotting again and seeing blood when I wipe. I don't have any cramps and the only PMS symptoms I really noticed was my skin broke out the last few days. Is this my period returning?
8 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoHow fast did you lose weight after birth?
I gained 37 pounds when I was pregnant with my son.
I was 120 lbs pre-pregnancy and was 157 when I delivered him - 8 days past my due date.
He was born 8 weeks ago and I am back down to 126 lbs - so another 6 pounds to go to my pre-pregnancy weight.
I am breast feeding so I realize that burns a lot of calories.
However I feel like I'm getting some negative feedback from people about it. I eat whatever I want, I'm not dieting at all, I'm not working out like crazy or anything. Yet people are commenting how much weight I lost already like its a bad thing.
Saying I'm losing weight to fast and I need to be careful??
I'm not sure if they think I'm doing something "unsafe" to lose weight - like not eating etc.
But thats not at ALL the case!
Even when I was pregnant I was very active the whole time, and though I gained quite a lot of weight it seemed to be all belly.
How soon did you lose weight? Is it really that "weird" to lose most of your baby weight in 2 months?
As far as I had always heard breast feeding burns a LOT of calories , so it would be normal to lose weight quicker right??
21 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoHow long did you breastfeed for?
My son is two months old this Saturday and is breastfed. I feel like everyone has different opinions on when to breast feed until, some say 6 months, some say a year, some even say up to two years. I live in Canada so here we get a year off work , paid, for maternity leave. So I can easily breast feed for up to a year if I choose to, and then I will have to return to work. Just wondering when other moms breast fed until?
12 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoIs it ok to wake baby to eat if you are engorged?
My 6 week old son has started sleeping a lot longer at night now, thus going longer between feedings at night. However durring the day time he still wants to eat every 2 -3 hours. That being said when he goes from eating so frequently in the day, and then goes 6 or so hours at night without feeding it leaves me very engorged and in pain. Last night he ate at 8 pm, was in bed sleeping by 9 and by 3 am still was peacefully sleeping. However at that point I was soo engorged my breasts were hard and in pain and leaking. I just decided to get him up and feed him. Is this ok to do? Or should I avoid this ? Will my body just adjust to his new sleeping pattern and start making less milk at night? Or perhaps should I just pump at night, so I can relieve the engorgement but not interrupt my babies sleep?
7 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoWhen did you start having sex again after labor ?
I had my baby boy almost 6 weeks ago...it will be six weeks on Saturday (two days from now)
From what I can tell all of my stitches are out now , I've continued to check on them with a hand held mirror for the past few weeks.
They feel pretty good as far as being healed however I am SO scared to start having sex again! The healing process was grueling and the thought of tearing again terrifies me!
My husband has been so great about waiting and not putting any rush on when we can be intimate again, however I myself am starting to miss it lol.
I was just wondering when you started having sex again? What was it like? painful or not to bad? Any recommendations on how to go about it?
9 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoNewborn already sleeping 5 1/2 hours at night, will this decrease my milk supply?
Our baby is 3 and a half weeks old and already sleeps between 4 and 5 and a half hour stretches at night.
We had a TON of trouble breast feeding and have just now FINALLY made a break through after going to the breast feeding clinic twice a week since birth.
I'm worried that his long stretches of not eating at night will decrease my milk supply so I have been getting up and pumping in between.
Is this even needed or will my supply be ok ?
5 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoHas anyone tried fenugreek capsules to impove breast milk supply?
My son has had a lot of trouble breast feeding. He was born 26 days ago and just in the last few days he has finally started latching well and feeding well. I have been taking him to the breast feeding clinic twice a week since he was born, I have been using nipple shield as well as pumping and bottle feeding ...so he has been getting breast milk the entire time. However I worry my milk supply is not enough for him, even if I pump about every 2 to 3 hours I only get about 2-3 ounces. My lactation specialist recommended I take fenugreek capsules, it's a natural supplement that's supposed to improve milk supply, I just started taking them two days ago.
Has anyone else tried them? Did you notice they worked well? Did you continue taking them or just take them until your supply increased and then stop?
