  • Is there any hope for my transmission?

Two weeks before we planned to buy a new car- it seems my car has died. Yesterday I let my husband drive my car. When getting onto an onramp for the highway he floored the gas and the RPMs went very high. Then on the highway, the car would not shift and since then has slipped in and out of gear. I picked up some of that tran-x that you put with the transmission fluid to stop transmission slippage. It is supposed to work "immediately". Well, we put it in, let the car idle for a while- then took it out for a drive on three occasions. Each time for about 5-10min and the car changes gear 3 times and then falls out of gear- with the RPMs just jumping as you drive.

It's a 96 Saturn SL, the transmission was completely replaced (not rebuilt) at 65k miles, the car now has 140k miles and really needs and oil change.

  • How to get the romance back in our marriage?

My husband and I "celebrated" our 1st wedding anniversary yesterday. I am working every day right now, over the weekend, the holiday- everything.

We spent last night at his mother's birthday party instead of home celebrating our own marriage. On saturday night I worked until really late at night and had to be up early sunday. We ate some sushi and had a glass of wine then went to bed.

I am 27 weeks pregnant. I have a 6yr old and a 17mo. I am completely exhausted and burned out on work and on putting effort into the relationship.

I want things to just be easier and I want that "spark" back but I have had NO sex drive during this pregnancy. It's been limited to a handful of times over the last 15 weeks or so.

    What can we do?

  • What things would you look for in a home based daycare?

I'm thinking about quitting my successful job and starting a home based daycare so I can be with my children. We have a large home including a large finished basement that is converted into a playroom. I planned to provide meals, snacks, wipes and activities. Parents would provide diapers, any necessary formula/breastmilk or medications.

I would provide papers for each child detailing what they did and ate that day. I also plan to have payment contracts and rules- and will take off on government holidays (exluding ones that schools do not provide off for).

What other things would you like to see? What does your daycare offer that you just LOVE?

  • I have a Kodak C530- do I need a Kodak memory card or can I use generic?

The Kodak brand cards are very expensive and I can't find any local stores that have them in stock. Do normal memory cards work in most cameras?

  • Can you rent a car if you have a limited license (interlock)?

My husband got a DUI a few years ago. He still has an interlock in his car due to PA law. We are going to FL next week for vacation and we have two small children- we HAVE to rent a car.

Do any places allow you to sign up online and go right to the car without showing your ID? His driving record shows active and good, the license is marked interlock.

I am not old enough to rent a car.

We're staying at a relative's house that is too far to take cabs every day.

  • How does your husband react when you turn down sex?

How often do you have sex on average each week?

Is your husband sympathetic to low sex drive due to pregnancy/birth of a baby or illness?

I just was hoping to show my husband we have sex a normal amount of times and how other marriages work around these sorts of issues.

  • Did you have miscarriage dreams during pregnancy?

I'm concerned because my last pregnancy ended in m/c at 18 weeks. During that whole pregnancy I had miscarriage dreams. I don't think I had a single one that involved BFing or a normal birth.

I don't know if it's just paranoia or what but the dreams started again and I am about 6 weeks pregnant.

I guess I'm just hoping someone else had bad dreams but it turned out ok.

  • Which breastpump would you purchase?

Here's the thing: My husband's very good friend got a girl pregnant the night they met. They have been trying to make it work ever since and they now even live together.

The baby shower is next week and when I spoke with her about a gift she said she didn't ask anyone for any breastfeeding supplies because she didn't know if it was appropriate to put on the registry.

I offered to buy a pump.... other people we were with were raving about the Medela pumps. I went to target.com and saw that there is a Lanisoh pump that gets the same reviews at Medela, has a patented system to not allow milk to back up into the tubing and it even fits the medela accessories (like the clip to make it hands free) I personally own 3 different models of medela pumps and had no luck with any of them- I never let down for them once.

So.. do I buy the lanisoh pump which is $150, or do I get the $250 medela pump simply for the brand name? I am pregnant and plan to buy the lanisoh for myself.

  • Should I remove the grass before building a raised garden on top?

I want to make a raised garden in my back yard. The grass is weed-free because I used that scott's lawn stuff last year. Should I dig up all the grass under the raised garden or just build it right on top?

All I need to do is just make the four walls and fill it with good dirt... right?

  • A bird built a nest in the wreath on my door. What should I do?

I have left this wreath up since Christmas.. it was really starting to turn brown and dry out and I thought yesterday I would take it down. I went to pull it down and I noticed a bird has built a nest inside of it.

I grew up being told not to move nests and I do respect the bird and am glad he/she choose my home. However- the door swings inside and that means the birds will actually be INSIDE my house at times. Also, I have young children and I am concerned about a protective mother bird dive-bombing them!!

So... should I take it down? Should I move it? I can't see if there are eggs in it yet.

  • Lymph Node or Jaw Cancer? YOU DECIDE!?

On the left side of my jaw I have a painful hard lump under the skin. It seems to be the size and shape of a teardrop. I can move it slightly (maybe a cm in each direction). It is not acne- much deeper in the skin.

It has the movement and overall feel of a lymph node (only way smaller and in my jaw). I am currently sick with very swollen nodes.

So.... jaw cancer or lymph node?

  • What kind of question bugs you the most on pregnancy/parenting?

Mine is a toss up between the "Am I pregnant- I have never had sex and I've had my period?" and the "Can I be induced at 35 weeks for some absurd personal reason?"

  • My 5yr old makes everything a contest between me and my ex?

My son is 5yrs old (almost 6). Whenever he has a compliment or complaint he always compares me against his father. We have been split up since my son was very small and there has never been that sort of competition between us.

For example: "You make the best breakfast! Better then my dad!"

"My DAD doesn't make me clean my room"

"My DAD makes better dinner then YOU!"

He says it all with a pretty rude attitude. I've had discussions with him and explained his Dad and I are not fighting- that we have different ways to do things and that each way is OK. I've asked him to stop countless times.

This happens every single day- during almost every meal and often just at random. How do I get my son to stop making comparisons and trying to hurt us by using the other parent?

  • How comfy is a Southwest Air flight?

Are the seats really crammed together? Are their planes nice or old and crappy. I have a terrible fear of flying and am taking my children on a flight from PHI to FLA. I want to know that to expect.

  • How to keep a 12 month old quiet on a plane ride?

My son is 12 months old.. too young to color or watch movies. We are going on vacation next month and will be on a 3-4hr plane ride. How can I possibly keep him calm and well behaved? He will be sitting in my lap for the flight and tends to get VERY annoyed if he is held while sitting.

I haven't flown in a very long time (since I was a child). Can I walk around with him once the plane is in the air? Can I bring snacks and a bottle on board? How many toys do you think I can carry on?

I heard a woman was recently kicked off a flight because she couldn't calm her toddler. I am worried. I also have a horrible fear of flying so my husband may end up doing all the work (I may need to take an RX). I do not agree with giving a child medication to calm them. What can I do?

  • Vacation in Florida (Gulf Side) need recommendations?

We had planned to stay in Naples, but we couldn't find a package based on the dates we need. What are some other gulf coast areas that are close to an airport and close to beautiful beaches?

We're taking along a 1yr old and a 5yr old.. it's the end of April/beginning of May vacation. Someplace with lots of things to do and great places to eat would be preferred.

  • Is it wrong to take a child out of school for vacation?

My husband and I are looking to plan a vacation this year. We want to take a trip south- to tropical islands or florida area. We have a 9.5mo old and a 5yr old who is in kindergarten.

We have NEVER taken a vacation before. It will be only for one week but I didn't want to do it in July or Aug because it is WAY too hot, especially for the baby (we are pasty north-easterners).

Would it be wrong to take him out of school for a week in late may or early june?

  • Lost wedding ring?

My husband lost his wedding ring within one month of getting married (or wedding date was Sept 2, 2006). It's pretty upsetting because the ring was sized perfectly yet he claims it fell off. Should I buy him a replacement for christmas or expect him to replace it himself?

  • Morbid question for those with a 2nd or 3rd trimester miscarriage...?

I picked up the ashes of my stillborn baby boy today. What did you do with yours? I wanted to get a small locket necklace that holds ashes.. and otherwise I'm kind of at a loss for what I should do. I've had the box of footprints and his birth certificate in my closet for two weeks and It just feels terribly inappropriate.

I have a burial permit in my possession and I own my home. It's an option but I'd rather not. I kind of feel like spreading the ashes is like throwing away his body. Someone provide me some insight, please!
