  • In the office where I work, I am the only African American. How can I tactfully, let my coworkers know that?

their backhand comments are offensive? For example, one of the guys always has to "talk black" when he talks to me. I am very professional and do not use slang at work so why does he? Another guy always has to say something about black people that he thinks is complimentary... Like saying "black don't crack" in refernce to black people aging well. Or comparing my brown skin to a co-workers wife's very pale skin and saying we should get a picture, its like ebony and ivory. One guy even compared myself and an intern (who is half black/half Japanese) to the Philipino women at his country club. Also, I wear my hair natural (no relaxer or flat iron), one lady keeps saying my hair is so "wild" and its cool. That is not a compliment!!! Saying my hair is wild is not cool. Why do people keep bringing up my ethnicity? What can I say to let them know it makes me uncomfortable?

  • Does anyone think Danny Noriega on AI looks a lot like Jessica Alba?

I think its the lips. He's an ok singer but his mannerisms are irritating. It seems like when he's looking into the camera, he's trying too hard to seem likeable. And doing that whole "W" off the side of his head with his hand to say "Whatever" to Simon was ewww! I don't even know. He's trying hard but he can't beat an authentic person like David Archuleta. Now that is a sweet kid with a good voice.

  • Why don't more people from other cultures read Essence or Ebony magazines?

Blacks, Hispanics and other races read magazines like Vogue, Cosmo, Harper's Bazaar, etc. Don't you think that if we each read a magazine or watched a television show from another culture it would bring us closer together or at least allow one another to see that we are not that much different? (Of course you can't read those in another language or watch telemundo if you don't spanish). Do white people watch shows like "Girlfriends" or "My Wife & kids" or "Everybody Hates Chris"? I ask because I know people that watched "Friends" and "Seinfeld" and neither of those shows had black people on them as regular cast members. Your thoughts?

  • Why don't people say "dungarees" anymore?

Is it just an out-of-date term or is there a difference between dungarees and jeans?

  • Preschooler cries all the time! What do I do?

I am so stressed out. I hope some parents can help me. My 3 yo daughter wakes up every morning crying. I feel like I'm being tortured. I try to help her start off the day nicely even though I'm not a morning person. I wake her up and let her lay there for a few minutes while I shower. I try to help her wake up with hugs, kisses and a sing songy voice. Nothing works. I'm getting really frustrated.

Really she just seems to cry all the time. I try to ignore it most of the time but its like several times a day she's bawling. She cries when she wakes up, sometimes when I drop her off at school, sometimes when I pick her up and in the store. She cries on the weekend if we aren't going somewhere. She cries whenever I say no - even when I offer her alternatives or try to get her busy doing something else.

What the heck am I supposed to do about this? I get so frustrated sometimes that I slam doors, yell or cry. I know that's setting a bad example but what can I do?

  • Who is the rapper on the song with T.Pain "Show U How"?

I'm trying to look up the lyrics because I couldn't believe they would play it on the radio in the middle of the day. My sister says she never paid attention to the lyrics but the rap over the lyrics is disgusting.

  • Does anyone know of reasonable and reliable childcare in the Raleigh, NC area?

I have a 3 y.o. daughter and I'm looking for a new daycare for her. I'm changing jobs and the daycare she's at now is too far (plus, i don't really like it). The daycares I've called are all $800 or more. If you know of anything less than that with caring teachers who like their job and offer discipline with education, please respond. I'm looking mainly in the Blue Ridge Rd to Cary Area... 27606 or 27607 zip codes. Thanks Y! community.

  • US Expatriates - How did you decide to leave the US and why?

Can you also tell me about the place where you live now and how receptive were they to you? Was it easy/difficult to find work? How hard was it adapt to the different culture?

I know I'm asking a lot but I'm thinking of leaving the US and I'm not sure where I would like to go. Considering Canada (not sure on that one), London or a more tropical location.

  • Absent father question? What do I tell my three yr old daughter when she asks for her dad?

He is not involved at all with her or me. I found out after she was born that he was married and he decided he wanted nothing to do with my daughter. Told me he grew up without a dad and she will be alright. He has told his wife of my child's existence but is afraid that she'll be angry if he tries to spend time with my daughter. She has been asking "Where is my daddy?" and "Can he come spend the night?" Last nite was the worst ever... She said, "I want my daddy. I just want one little daddy." My heart was breaking but all I could think to tell her was that she has a Mommy and Nana who love her and I started naming all of our extended family who love her. But she's still not satisified. What do I say now? She's only three!

  • Why Is it not ok to disagree with homosexuality? Aren't we all allowed our own opinions. I definitely am

against gay bashing and hate crimes but what is wrong with saying, "I disagree with homosexuality and prefer not to associate with those who identify themselves as GLBT." I think its wrong to hate anyone or to discriminate but that should not translate into as a society we MUST accept all behavior because a group of people wanna do it and they'll get mad or sue us if we disagree. Basically, if people who are into beastiality say, "I was born this way and you must accept me into your life", we have to say ok that's cool with me??? I bring this up because recently a former basketball player said he was gay and then another player came out and said he wouldn't want a gay man on his team. The only thing I saw wrong with what he said is that he "hates gays." That's wrong. But its his perrogative to decide with whom he wants to associate. Your thoughts... http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070215/ap_on_sp_bk_ne...

  • Do you believe in spanking your kids? The Today show this morning?

was discussing how many CEO's and even Presidents were spanked as children.

I definitely, believe in spanking but as a last resort when time out and taking away privileges doesn't work. Or when they do something that might endanger themselves or someone else... Like playing with matches or running into traffic. Your thoughts?

  • HEROES on NBC - Did anybody watch it last night??? Do u think it will last?

I was on the edge of my seat! It looks like a great show for people who are fans of sci-fi or comics, which I am. I can't wait to see what draws all the people together and how they explore their powers. Kinda wish I had a super power. lol

  • Baby Suri - What was all the hype about? She's a cutie.?

The media tends to blow things so far out of proportion. So what if Tom and Katie didn't want to show pictures of their baby. Maybe they just wanted to enjoy her without all the hoopla and other people that they don't know ogling their baby. Do you think she's cute? And do you agree the media made too much of them not showing the baby?

On another front, I do agree that Tom Cruise has gone way too far with his Scientology belief. It's one thing to believe what you believe but another to condemn others who do not share your beliefs. Do you agree?
