Advice for buying/developing property?
Hello. I'm 18 and entering the real world. In >3 weeks I ship off to Army basic combat training, then 6 months of advance training. When I get back I should have around $15,000 saved up. As I am in the National Guard, I will be a reservist. I have been thinking a lot about where I will live and have done a lot of research into buying my own plot of land and developing it as opposed to living in an apartment and paying rent (which doesn't appeal to me at all).
I have been looking at rural properties anywhere from 5-20 acres
I have been looking at trailers to live in while I develop my property
I have taken into account:
Water -- I want a well
Electricity -- I want solar panels with a backup generator
Property taxes
What else should I look for?
What are the pros and cons of developing your a rural plot of land as opposed to renting an already developed house.
Any other advice?
I live in Washington State, and have predominantly looked at heavily wooded land.
Thanks

is this plausible?
1 AnswerSwimming & Diving8 years agoIs bringing a gun into a national forest okay?
We're going backpacking in Olympic National Forest tomorrow on a three-day trip and I'd wanted to bring my rifle (mosin-nagant) with. My dad's pretty against it as he's convinced somebody's going to call the police or freak out in some other way.
I know it's completely legal, my question is -- do you think it's a good idea?
6 AnswersCamping8 years agoAdvice for a guard dog?
I'm planning on, in the next year or two, getting a dog as a lifelong companion (his life hopefully) and guard dog. I plan on taking him backpacking with me too. I'm strongly considering a German Shepherd.
I want the kind of dog that will stay when I say, no matter what is going on, and won't leave my side without my saying so.
I realize this will take a lot of resources, time, and effort. I'm prepared to dedicate all of these.
-What kind of training am I looking at?
-What's the price I should expect?
-Are, in your experience, any breeds better for what I'm looking for?
-Anything else you can advise or caution me on
Thank you.
4 AnswersDogs8 years agoI need Army MOS advice?
First off, I would like to apologize for using the question portion to write a statement.
I'm joining the ARNG,
I just made it through the dreaded MEPS, and got a 96 on the AFQT (ASVAB)
I initially intended to join and do 68w (medicine),
but after seeing my scores, my recruiter strongly suggests I join military intelligence, and I think some of the occupations look interesting and intellectually stimulating.
In the civilian world I will be an EMT/Paramedic
So, my question is, should I do 68w -- will the experience I get transfer over in a significant way to my civilian medical career.
Or should I go ahead and do MI, in order to take advantage of my full potential.
Thanks.
1 AnswerMilitary8 years agoHow long until I will notice a change in my blood pressure?
I'm 17, 5'10", and 180 lbs. I'm scheduled to go to MEPS next week but after trying out those Blood Pressure machines at the pharmacy, I got a reading of 154/78, which concerned me
I went to the fire department and they took it and got 152/80. The standard for MEPS is maxed at 140/80. I plan on exercising intensely and starting a low sodium diet.
How long of doing this do you think it will take to get down below 140/80?
Thanks.
2 AnswersHeart Diseases8 years agoHow accurate are blood pressure machines?
I'm going to MEPS next week and a bit worried about my blood pressure.
I just did a few tests from the BP machine at Safeway and tested (systolic) anywhere from 139-154 (My diastolic was under 80 every time.)
-Should I be worried? How accurate are these?
-What can I do in the next 5 days to lower my blood pressure? I've never drank or smoked and I exercise regularly and eat fast food very infrequently.
Thanks!
4 AnswersHeart Diseases8 years agoAre telescopic rods worth it?
I'm not someone who fishes regularly, but am starting to really get into backpacking. Some of my planned trips are going to be at lakes so I figured I should get a rod I can use.
I've read a lot of bad things about telescopic rods, but is there any good substitute? Keep in mind I have limited space and am going to be hiking long distances so whatever I get needs to take up minimal space in my pack.
5 AnswersFishing8 years agoDo I absolutely need my SS card at meps?
I have my number memorized and am able to get a photo-copy of my card if need be. Would either of these be an acceptable substitute?
Additional Question: Is there a way to get free birth certificate/license replacements in the state of Washington? My wallet got stolen and now my only picture ID is my (expired) permit. I'm 17 and currently a student, have lived without a parent/guardian for over a year now, so I'm sure I could qualify for any possible financial aide programs. It would be a huge burden to save up the extra $70 or so to get them replaced. Thanks!
2 AnswersMilitary8 years agoCan I, legally, get in trouble?
I'm a senior in highschool, and today at lunch, they placed poorly written brochures on the "dangers" of marijuana use. The information enclosed was extremely subjective, opinionated, and completely not based on scientific fact.
I have never used Marijuana, so I am unbiased as far as that goes.
Am I within my legal rights, (first amendment), to place a rebuttal brochure with actual medical facts regarding marijuana.
This is with the assumption that I do not put opinion in the brochure, meant to sway the reader either direction, and only fact.
Can I legally face disciplinary action?

The filter for my aquarium tipped over and slowly leaked a couple of gallons of water onto the carpet in my room.
I don't have money.
It is wall to wall carpeting.
What can I do?
I immediately soaked up what I could using six towels, then periodically soaked up more after those towels dried.
1 AnswerCleaning & Laundry9 years agoI'm really scared, should I be?
I am a fairly new driver, (2 years), and was looking at various options as far as insurance goes online. I came across a website that offered free quotes (Carinsurancequote.com). I filled out the information then later read that it was a scam.
>Confirm/deny that it is, in fact, a scam
>Tell me how much trouble I am in. I gave them my phone number, birthday, email address, mailing address, full name -- However, I refused to give my SSN.
Thanks, I'm pretty worked up about this. Please respond ASAP.
2 AnswersOther - Internet9 years agoCan I start on Clash of Kings?
I went to a bookstore earlier today to buy The Game of Thrones (first book), however -- they only had books 2, 3 and 4. I went ahead and bought book 2. Would it be okay if I started on that? I've watched the whole series.

I'm 17 and just recently tried to donate blood. After an hour and a half wait and a ton of paperwork, they took my vital signs and my blood pressure was too high to donate.

I'm not obese, and have never drank or smoked.

A friend was driving me home and we were on a busy road, there was a small Dachshund in the middle of the street with cars speeding by. My friend slowed down and I jumped out and grabbed her. I'm willing to take care of her but feel as though I should make sure there isn't an owner. What are my options for places to go to get her scanned for a microchip?
