What if God is testing His followers?
Consider the following:
The God of the Bible l-o-o-o-v-e-s testing people, doesn't He? Well, what if the Bible is His ultimate test? What if He tells His followers to do all these unspeakable acts, and is waiting for them to question His intentions? What if secular humanists are the ones passing His test? You cannot deny this possibility, given what is presented of God in the Bible. So, believers/followers, how can you be sure you're doing what He wants?
(Assuming for the moment that there is a God, which there probably isn't.)
5 AnswersReligion & Spirituality9 years agoList of South Park episodes dealing with the Catholic Church?
I was wondering if somebody could compile a list for me of all the South Park episodes that have the Catholic Church in some way central to the plot? I know that there's the Easter episode, the sex abuse one and the Bloody Mary episode, but are there any others? Thanks in advance.
1 AnswerComedy9 years agoHow did Lucifer acquire free will?
Angels are God's indentured servants, right? Free will is reserved for us awesome humans, right? So where did Lucifer obtain the will to go against God? And why did God grant that will to only one of His angels?
I'm not trying to have a go, but if there are scriptural/theological explanations I'd be very curious to hear them.
9 AnswersReligion & Spirituality9 years agoHow can religious spies reconcile their profession with their beliefs?
Don't tell me there aren't religious spies. If there were during the Cold War, there certainly are now in what many (erroneously) perceive to be a religious war.
How do they account for the fact that their job is nothing but lies and deception? Isn't that against pretty much every religion on the planet?
5 AnswersReligion & Spirituality9 years agoHow long did it take to complete the LOTR film trilogy?
From first treatment to the release of the extended edition of Return Of The King, about how many years did it take to complete Jackson's vision of Tolkien's work?
1 AnswerMovies9 years agoMTL Catholic Church: Pray the Habs make the playoffs?
http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=387329
A Montreal Catholic Church has taken out a TV ad urging Montrealers to pray that the Canadiens (Montreal's NHL team) make the playoffs.
My question is: when religious people pray for a big touchdown, or a big goal, or a win, or what have you, do they actually believe that God A) cares and B) is willing to step in to make a difference?
1 AnswerReligion & Spirituality9 years agoIf God promised no afterlife, would people still believe in/follow Him?
If God (I'll use the God of the Bible) did everything He did, and asked what He asks of His followers, but didn't promise eternal heaven for His followers or eternal damnation for sinners, would He be as popular as He is now?
(I don't believe in a god, so spare yourselves telling me they don't exist. It was easier to ask the question within the context that He does exist.)
12 AnswersReligion & Spirituality9 years agoIf God is omnipotent, why did He need to rest on the 7th day?
Doesn't "all-powerful" imply exactly that: He's all-powerful?
16 AnswersReligion & Spirituality9 years agoIs it possible to be Christian without being religious?
Say you just followed his/His philosophies and ignored all the God stuff (which, granted, would be tricky). Are you still a Christian, even though you're non-religious? Kind of like how Calvinists don't necessarily worship Calvin? Or does 'Christian' as a word mean 'believer in Christ's divinity'?
9 AnswersReligion & Spirituality9 years agoWhat happens if Satan doesn't want somebody in hell?
Say God sends a person to hell but for some reason (overcrowding, or under-staffing or something), Satan doesn't want him there. In the Christian belief, does Satan/Lucifer have the power to expel people from hell? And if so, where do they go?
12 AnswersReligion & Spirituality9 years agoAnywhere I can watch the World Juniors online in English?
TSN,ca claims to be streaming the games, but I can't find them anywhere on their site. All I can find is some pirate stream in Finnish or Swedish or something.
3 AnswersHockey9 years agoHow is "Between the whistles" different than "After the whistle"?
I just caught episode 2 of the Flyers/Rangers 24/7 and the ref says that he doesn't want any shenanigans after the whistle, but he won't get too upset if it's between the whistles. What the hell does that mean? Aren't after the whistle and between the whistles the same thing?
1 AnswerHockey9 years agoEven if all of the heads of major entertainment corporations are Jewish...?
... how does that suggest a conspiracy? All it suggests to me is that Jews are willing to work hard enough to reach those heights.
7 AnswersReligion & Spirituality9 years agoIs "can" (as in "I can") a verb [chars.]?
We say "I can run quickly" or "I can get that for you" (where "run" and "get" are verbs) but we also say "I can" as a sentence unto itself (usually as a response). So, is "can" a verb, or is "I can" a grammatically incomplete sentence?
4 AnswersWords & Wordplay9 years agoAtheists who used to be religious: Were you an atheist before you could admit it?
Kind of a weird way of wording it, but I realize now that I was ostensibly an atheist/non-believer/whatever YEARS before I could admit it to myself (let alone anybody else). Any similar scenarios? Any wildly different ones? Tell me your stories!
11 AnswersReligion & Spirituality9 years agoDo any atheists have faith in something other than a deity?
For me, it's sports teams.
5 AnswersReligion & Spirituality9 years agoWhat's the deal with goalies?
I don't know how many people are following the Flyers-Rangers 24/7 series on HBO, but here's a clip of Flyers goalie Ilya Bryzgalov:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-FvRyQOlbc
I've seen some interviews with Ken Dryden from the 70s and heard some stuff from my cousin, who plays minor hockey, as well as interviews with former and current NHL stars, and there seems to be a kind of consensus that goalies are a bit.... off. I dig it, I think it's great, but does anybody have any idea why?

7 AnswersReligion & Spirituality9 years agoDid Magnum, PI wear shorts?
And if so, what kind of shorts did he wear? I'm going to an 80s Christmas party and kinda need to know of Selleck wore shorts or pants.
