¡Felíz Ano nuevo! Estoy estado unidense. ¡Gracias!

  • I'm a small sole proprietor w/ 2 PT employees. 1 is with me for 25 yrs now. How to recognize his contribution?

This is a seasonal job. We wait for a potential customer to call and place an order for our services on their property, then I call my employees and we do the work. I work on every job with my employees. I get to know them well. They are my friends as much as they are my employees.

I pay them well, and they have some benefits, plus when they are laid off for lack of work they collect unemployment.

I can't get unemployment so I work a 3rd shift factory job year around to help make ends meet, in addition to working with my guys on every job we do.

The point is that I'm struggling from month to month and year to year the same as they are to earn a living, and I don't have a lot of money to throw around. I would like to recognize this one employee for his contribution of 25 years of his working life, for always being there whenever I called to tell him "we have a job to do tomorrow".

I'm planning my first ever company Christmas dinner at a restaurant with my 2 employees and their SO's, and at this time I'd like to present some form of recognition. This also MIGHT be his last year, as he's already past retirement age.

I need ideas on some inexpensive way to recognize him in a way that would be meaningful to him.

He's not into material things. He has a heart of gold. Most of what he has he gives away or shares to help others in their times of need. He doesn't need the customary "25 year watch". He always manages to get to work and Dr's appointments on time, and the rest of the time he couldn't care less what time it is.

If any reader recognizes himself in this circumstance described above your input would be appreciated.

  • What's going to happen to my PC when I reactivate my outlook express Roadrunner email acct after 15 months?

About 15 months ago my PC froze up and I ended up using "system restore" to get it working again. In the process I lost whatever settings were necessary to access my outlook express email account from WI RoadRunner. Because most of my mail had been coming to a Yahoo account I wasn't in a hurry to get OE running again, plus I couldn't find the disk. Now I've found the disk and I'm ready to reactivate OE and I wonder if 15 months worth of emails is going to crash my computer when they start pouring in. Are there any safeguards in the system to prevent a crash? Is there any certain procedure I should follow to reduce the risk of problems developing from having so many emails at once? Thanks for your help.

  • At what age did you come to America, and how many years did it take for you to become fluent and comfortable..?

..in your new language, English? My paternal grandparents came from Europe in the 1880s. Fifty years later when Grandma wrote letters to my Dad in World War 2, she still wasn't fluent in written English. Her letters were a mixture of English words and Swedish words. I've always thought that each person learns the new language at their own pace, and I don't have a problem with that. However too many people today seem to think that when somebody crosses our border and enters the US that he/she should be speaking English immediately. What do you think?

If you are an immigrant to the US have you felt hostility from the English speaking

Americans because you weren't yet fluent in English at the time?

¿Usted ha sido un campesino? ¿ Usted ha ganado el sueño Americano?

  • If you're gay curious, but haven't tried it yet, why not?

What's holding you back? Fidelity to marriage/relationship partner?. Fear of STDs? Religious beliefs? Social stigma? Lack of opportunity? Something else?

  • How likely is it that a bi will enjoy the same sex experience enough to go totally gay/lesbian?

I've known some people who appeared to start out in life as straight, with spouse and children, and in middle age began having same sex relationships, and ultimately ended up living exclusively gay /lesbian lives.

How likely is it for bi sexual people to remain bi over the long term?

  • What if you discovered as you got into some body's vehicle that the inside door handles were missing?

Maybe you hitched a ride with somebody, and as you pulled the door shut you realized the inside door handles had been removed and you couldn't open the door to get out. Would you panic? Start kicking at the window? Ask what's going on, pull out your mace, or knife, or what?

  • Did you ever try to get another guy drunk so you could explore your sexual feelings toward him?

Maybe you were curious about a friend or acquaintance or coworker so you sought opportunities to go out drinking together in hopes that yours or his inhibitions and reservations may be lowered so you could try "new " things and be able to blame it on the alcohol, if they didn't work out well. If that did happen for you, did things go according to your plan? Were you able to get together again with or without the alcohol?

  • Is it easier to come out to family and friends as bi, or as gay?

Is one more socially acceptable than the other? Is it better to come out as bi, to break the ice sort of, and then after they're accustomed to it, then to tell them you've discovered you are actually gay?

  • Some times I hold my pee so long that I have trouble releasing it, why?

Some times when I'm very tired and sleeping really soundly I hold my urine so long and so tightly that when I finally wake from my sleep because of the urgent need to pee I have trouble relaxing my muscles enough to release my urine. Some times it actually takes a couple minutes to get started peeing, even though I have to go so bad that I can't hardly stand the pain.

If the situation gets any worse I'm afraid that sometime I might not be able to pee. What would I do then? Go to the emergency room? Some home remedy for this problem? Anybody else ever have this problem?

  • My friend ran off the road and hit a pole...?

My friend came to work with the front end of his car smashed in. When I asked what happened he said he slid off the road and hit a pole. I said, "it could have been worse, you could have hit a german", He turned and walked away, and won't talk to me anymore. Did I say something wrong? Should I have been more sympathetic?

  • Is "Global Travel" another scam to sell me a timeshare?

My wife got a voicemaill saying she won a Lincoln Navigator and to call back a certain number. When she called back she was told she won 1 of 4 different items ranging from a Lincoln Navigator on down to a 32" TV. She was talked into making an appointment for her and I to go to a meeting of some sort to claim one of those 4 prizes tomorrow afternoon. We have to bring proof of ID and a valid credit card to qualify, to claim the prize.

Have any of you run into a deal like this? Is it a scam? Are we winners, or gonna-be suckers?

  • How fast does the tide roll in?

I heard someone on TV say the tide moves as fast as a galloping horse. I found that hard to believe so I did a search on Yahoo, asking how fast does the tide roll in? After looking through 10 pages of matches pertaining to Alabama's Crimson Tide, I gave up. YA should be faster.

So, does anybody here know how fast the tide rolls in? Is it the same speed everywhere? If it's like a galloping horse, it sounds more like a tsunami.

If an unsuspecting tourist who's unfamiliar with the sea, and the tides, hears or sees it coming can he outrun it?

  • What do you think about a secular business using religious symbols in it's advertising?

I received a business card from a guy advertising his business. The card has an emblem of a fish with the name Jesus inside the fish.

An acquaintance of mine started his own small construction business and named it "The King's ______ Company". (name is edited to maintain his anonymity, and King's refers to Jesus the King of Kings).

Another home repair company named itself "Jesus Christ Is Lord _______ Company".

So what does this type of advertising say to you?

Are they really witnessing for the Lord, or are they trying to capitalize on His name to get more business, or trying to portray themselves as more upright and trustworthy than their competitors, or something else?.

Are you more inclined to call them when you need the services they provide, becuase of their advertised connection to God, or less inclined?

  • Guys who grab for other guys privates out in public view of others, why?

When I was in elementary school some of the guys would grab for the other guys crotch, nobody in particular, just any crotch they could get close to. I always quickly swung my hand down and blocked them, or sidestepped them. This happened out on the playground where anybody could have seen it, including the girls or the teachers. Years later I worked in a big city factory where 2 of my male coworkers had the same custom of grabbing for other guys crotches, although I never saw them grab each other. This was quite annoying to me, and when I told them to knock it off they would just laugh. One day when I was particularly irritated and one of these guys did that to me I told him that if he would go brush his teeth I would let him give me a blojob. After that he left me alone. I've never encountered that custom anywhere else in my entire life, and I still wonder...what did it mean??

Was this a form of sex play? Were they hitting on me? Or did it have nothing to do with sex? Maybe it was a type of bullying, or whatever?? Anybody have some insight on this issue? Any of you ever do this to people? If so, what did you mean by it. Did any of you ever experience this and come up with an effective deterrent?
