  • Home Repairs Before Home Study?

My husband and I have been contemplating adoption for a while and are now considering becoming foster parents, but we want to do a few repairs to our home before we have the home study. One of the things that my husband thinks is fine, I think we should take out. In 2 of the bedrooms of our older house there is baseboard heating units for supplamental heat. We only turn them on few times a year to make sure they work without issue other wise they are off. I think we should remove them as they could be a safety risk for a young child, but he says they are fine.

Has anyone been through a homestudy with baseboard heat? Should we remove them?

I know that homestudies aren't looking for perfection, but I don't particularly like these heating units any way and we don't really use them.

    What do you think?

  • Have any of you had this and been pregnant?

Hi again, Hope all is well in the pregnancy community.

I am back after regrouping from a miscarriage. I am trying to stay positive as my hubby and I are trying again, but I am a little nervous. I am nearly two weeks late for my period, which I thought was a great sign ( I don't test until 2 weeks late), but the last day or two I have had a lot of discharge with some pink. There hasn't been any red at all, but pink and brownish coloration at times. It isn't consistent, and the color is really light. At first I thought my period was coming, but usually it would be here by now.

I know you guys can't tell me if I'm preggo, but I thought I might ask if any of you had a similar experience. I already had a appointment scheduled with my doctor this week, so I will ask her about it. Until then though I was hoping to see what you guys thought.

    Thank you and Congrats!

  • What do you think about this?

I love the name Sofia, but my hubby and I decided it was a little popular for our taste. Then the other day while watching a movie I heard it pronounced so-feye-uh instead of so-fee-uh and re-fell in love with it. So my questions are:

    1) Do you like the pronunciation so-feye-ua (almost sounds like so fire with light r)?

    2) How could we spell it so that it would be pronounceable?

    Thank you

  • Is this too much for siblings?

My Hubby's family has many Johns in it, one of which is his grandfather and he would like to name one of our sons after, which we decided on the name Johnathan, so it would be slightly different. The problem come in that now my hubby is taking a liking to having a "junior", which I like too, but since his name is Ian a derivative of John I don't think we should use both, but he doesn't think it would be a problem. What do you think?

I don't need to know how popular or boring the name John is, I know that. I am just curious about using John and Ian for siblings, because I think that might be a bit much.

    Thanks.

  • Which form of this name is better?

My middle name is Lynne (Lyn) and it's is kind of a family tradition to pass it down to a daughter. As my hubby and I have been working on our name list though there are some names that I like it better pronounced lyn-ay, which I have had my spelling pronounced that way by a few people. But I'm wondering if there is a different spelling of the second pronunciation. Also over all which do you prefer (I know it really depends on first name, but in general)?

  • Is this a weird pregnancy symptom?

I am 8 weeks pregnant and I've been having trouble sleeping, which I have read is normal, but last night I noticed if I slept on either side too long my hands went numb. Is that normal? Has anyone else had this problem? Is it something I should be worried about? My hands are fine, just I thought it was weird when I woke up from either side and they were numb,

    Thanks.

  • Is this normal for early pregnancy?

I know every woman and pregnancy is different, but this seemed a little odd to me. I am 7 weeks preggo and my husband and I took a measurement of my belly 10 days ago when we found out for sure. Between then and now I have grown 7.5 inches. I haven't been eating a ton more or anything, but I think that is a lot of growth for ten days this early on, isn't it?

    Thanks.

  • What do you think of this name?

The other day while browsing a baby name book I came across the name Adelaide and instantly fell in love. Then today while trying to think of middle names my hubby suggested Bay (but would spell it Bey).

So what do you think of Adelaide Bey S. (S being the last name) and what do you think of Adelaide Bey Scarlett S. or Adelaide Bey Magnoila S.? I'm not usually a fan of two middle names, but trying it out.

    Thanks

  • Hello to all the Moms and Moms-to-be, How's it going?

Hi there, Hope your evening is going well. I'm happy but a bit nervous right now and so just trying to see the positives. My Hubby and I have been trying for over a year and had a couple miscarriages, but today after my period was over a week late, I decided to take a test and it was positive.

I am over joyed, but also extremely nervous that I will miscarry again. So in trying to keep my spirits up I thought I'd ask some general prego questions of you all.

How many Children do you want/ have?

    When are you due?

Are/did you finding out the gender or waiting?

Did you use any "wives tales" to predict/guess gender? were they correct?

What names are you thinking about?

    Any food cravings?

Are you scared about anything in particular in regards to pregnancy/labor?

Thanks, I know it's long, but I just need to hear some good news, so that I don't let the nerves get to me. Thanks and Good Luck.

Oh and my answers would be

    Lots, I love big families

If everything goes well January 15

We aren't sure if we are going to find out or not

So far I've only used the Chinese Chart and it says Girl

  • Cat allergy???? Possible????

I am an animal person and have been all my life. As a college student there was about 6 months that I couldn't have pets because of living situations. Now my Hubby and I have moved into a pet friendly situation and gotten 2 lovely cats. The problem is that every since the cats have come home I have been sneezing and congested. I had multiple cats all my youth, so is there still the possibility a cat allergy? I don't know if it's possible to develop cat allergies late or if it is something else.

If you have any suggestions or possibilities I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

  • Can College Students Adopt A Child?

I was wondering if it is possible for students enrolled in a University to adopt? I know that financial needs would be met and that stability would also be a consideration, but will adoption agencies even consider college students?

  • Weird Pregnancy Test Question (little long, sorry)?

A couple days ago I decided to take a pregnancy test as I was then a week late (now over a week late). I took it in the middle of the afternoon, even though I know you are supposed to use first morning urine. It came out with a faint line. I'm really excited as is my hubby, but I want to be sure before I tell anyone or anything, so I decided to take another one this morning to hopefully get a better line. The weird thing is the line on this mornings test was fainter and disappeared after the reading window (I can still see the line on the one a few days ago).

Has this happened to anyone else?

I have symptoms (sore and swollen breast, cramping without bleeding, tired, moody, etc) still, but I'm worried now that I'm going to miscarry or that there is something wrong. I know I need to see the doc and will be going in this week.

Thanks for any advice and Good Luck.

  • How careful do you have to be lifting things in early pregnancy?

    Hi,

I took a test earlier today and it had a faint line, YAY!!! I'm really hoping it's right and I am. My Hubby and I have been trying for a while. I'm wondering, though, at my job I'm required to lift up to 50 pounds. Once I'm am 100 % sure and go to the doctor, I'll tell my Boss and I won't have to do the heavy lifting, but I'm worried about until then.

In the first few weeks of pregnancy, would it be dangerous for me to lift that much?

Thanks and Good Luck to everyone out there.

  • Is this normal ? ? ?

One of my girlfriends isn't sure about a new behavior in her husband. He has recently taken to having sex with her after she has fallen asleep. She is a very sound sleeper and so doesn't wake up. He always tells her in the morning that he did it, but it still seems a little strange. They are trying to have a baby, so she's not worried about getting pregnant or anything like that, she just doesn't know if this is just a phase or something to worry about.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • Symptoms? What do you think?

    Hey there Fellow TTCers,

I know that at only 7DPO I probably wouldn't really be showing any symptoms of pregnancy yet, but I'm not sure what body is trying to tell me, so I'm hoping you guys can help.

I woke up today fine but a little more tired than usual, figured it was just because my DH and I stayed up a little late. I was fine went to work, went to the bathroom and noticed a little more cm than normal, but figured it was nothing. Then this afternoon I got really tired and nauseous. I was cramping a bit, which is abnormal for me even right before AF. Then I rushed to the bathroom (sorry if TMI) with diarrhea, which I've only had about twice in my life. After that I thought about everything I had ate figuring it was just bad food, but all of the food I ate was normal and fresh.

Does any of this sound like anything?

Sorry for the long story. Thanks for reading it and the advice. Baby Dust to you all!!!

  • Prenatal Vitamins when TTC?

Hi there, my DH and I have been TTC for a while now and I've recently heard that taking Prenatal Vitamins can help, but I'm wondering if they are like birth control and have to be taken at the same time everyday or if it's not that specific?

Thanks and Baby Dust to all!!!
