  • I need a trustworthy mechanic in Austin, Texas?

It's for a 1984 Honda Accord... I just moved here from a different state and am living on my own for the first time.

  • I'm having some carburetor issues.?

It's a 1984 Honda Accord. I just moved from CO to TX, and it started as soon as I got down here, so it might be an altitude thing?

What happens is this: I put the car in park, and it's fine. I am driving down the road, and it's fine. When the car is in drive but I have my foot on the break (like at a stoplight) it DIES. the rpm just drops down to zero and the car is dead. So I restart it, and keep it in neutral while at stoplights, because it runs the smoothest in neutral. It also dies almost all the time while in reverse. Also, my mpg has gone waaay down.

I put some of the carburetor cleaner stuff in it and have tried switching grades... any other ideas?

  • where to check laws about labor, compensation, etc?

I know my manager is doing illegal things. She schedules people for 1 1/2 hour shifts, she has tried to mess with the records of the hours that we've worked, she doesn't schedule hours consistently, she expects everyone to lie for her, she lies to everyone, threatens, and basically just uses people. I'm looking for a site that will help me check up on the legality of these things, and possibly take some further action. Any ideas?

  • "made a beeline" ...?

...don't bees fly in loops and circles and just meander around looking for flowers? So why does this phrase mean a direct, straight line?

  • Is the Twilight series really worth all the hype?

Sometimes, a brilliantly written story causes a huge sensation. Harry Potter, for example. JK Rowling is an exceptional writer and story-teller, and she uses many advanced literary techniques in her writing. She is worth the fanatical response. But I feel like the Twilight books are not so well-written. It is a good story, and a cool idea, but I feel like Stephanie Meyer isn't really that good of a writer.

So I'd just like to open up some discussion here, does anyone disagree with me? Does anyone agree? Please support your ideas…

  • I need to transfer a Firewire port...help!?

I need to take it out of one computer, and put it into a different one. Could someone please give me directions on how to do this? Like detailed, step-by-step instructions? Or maybe just refer me to a good site?

I've never done anything concerning the insides of a computer before. Just a heads up. And one of the computers isn't mine, so I really don't want to break anything.

  • Does anyone here have a Canon ZR900, ZR930 or ZR950? Have you had problems with it and your PC?

I'm looking to buy a mini-DV camcorder...preferably Canon. These models are in my price range (of course, the cheaper the better) but I've read some reviews saying that they don't work well with Windows...the editing software I use is Pinnacle Studio 8 by the way...on a Windows XP...have you all had any problems with these cameras, or any suggestions for other cameras?

  • I'm don't think my friend believes that I'm allergic to nuts?

She always offers me food with nuts, and she always throws nuts at me, and when I do have a reaction and I debate whether to go home or wait it out she acts like I'm being an over-sensitive baby...I just don't think she understands that it really makes me feel sick. And also, I think she doesn't believe me because I'm allergic to tree nuts and not peanuts. I can tell that she doesn't understand that they're in totally different families. So I was wondering...

Do you all know of any websites that explains scientifically how peanuts and tree nuts are different, or maybe how allergic reactions to tree nuts work? The more official and scientific and certified the better. Thanks!

  • Should we end federal recognition of marriage?

Meaning that the government would no longer recognize the institution of marriage, and that all existing marriages would become civil unions...civil unions used only as a legal term, and marriage as a cultural/religious one...

So should we end the federal recognition of marriage? Why or why not?

  • I think I messed up some ligaments in my foot or something...help!?

I had a bad blister on the ball of my foot, so all last week I walked on the outside edge of my foot. This week, my foot has been hurting terribly when I walk. It's kind of a shooting pain on the outside of my foot, right in front of my ankle. What can I do to fix this?

Also, my arch is pretty low...I'm not sure if that's important.

…I would feel bad going to the party without a gift, but if I get her one, then I would feel bad for not getting everyone else one...what is the proper etiquette here?
