Got an ipod shuffle today and I can't set it up. The new device assistant does not come on when I plug the thing in. I have looked at itune help an ipod help and can't find useful information. All the help guides simply assume the new device assistant comes up, so step 1 is to name the unit but I can't get to that step - HELP!

  • Frontline didn't last long - how to combat fleas?

I applied Frontline to my two cats on Aug 18. Both have fleas again. I also vacuumed and applied a pesticide that I got from a home exterminator later that day. The fleas are back with a vengance!

Any useful tactics to combat the fleas would be welcomed. I'll be on the phone with the vet in the morning (and the exterminator too!!)

  • How to prove a scam transaction?

My father got a letter from some Chinese "investor" who promises millions of dollars based on a dead relatives account. Mr. Jin Fu, Principal Assurance Manager for the Agricultural Bank of China, would like to split the millions of dollars that the dead relative invested in China.

I know it's a scam, everything about the letter screams scam, but dad thinks he hit the lottery.

How do I prove to him that this is a scam?

  • espresso - how much coffee?

I bought a used Gaggia Careeza espresso machine. The measuring spoon is missing. How much coffee do I put in to make a single shot of espresso? What is the milk to espresso ratio for latte or cappuccino?

    Thanks!

  • task manager question?

Even before I open any programs at all if I hit ctrl+alt+delete I see there are MANY programs in the task manager list. I know that can't all be pertinent. How can I safely tell which ones I can shut off so I stop getting warnings from Norton about low resources.

    Thanks!

  • Why are so many people reluctant?

to take their sick pets to the viet? How come "they" don't know that their vet's office can refer them to an emergency vet or they can find an office with a simple Google search???

It is crazy how many people post questions about serious medical problems on this forum!

  • Yeast bread question?

I want to make a version of monkey bread that I saw on America's Test Kitche (or Cooks Country). It's a yeast bread. If I want to make this for breakfast can I prepare it through all the steps then put it in the refrigerator the night before? It's just too time consuming to do in the morning with all the rising and other steps? I was thinking the same with bread? Can I make the dough the night before if I want to bake it in the morning?

  • my big dog bit her little dog?

If you don't know the legal issues about this please don't guess.

My 17 year old son was walking our dog on a standard leash. A person on the same side had a small dog on a retractable leash. My son pulled the dog in close to his side and the small dog ran up to mine, with the retractable leash running out, and got bit.

Is my son (or me) at fault in any way? Am I responsible for the other person's vet bills?

I feel that I am not because my dog was under control, hers was running out away from her on the retractable leash and she didn't retract it.

Thanks for any guidance while I wait for the phone to ring.

  • what are these pasta shapes called?

I watched Lidia's Italy today. She made a fresh pasta with semolina flour, water, and saffron. She made a little shape that was similar to a gnocci, but it had a cup shape not a little chunk like gnocci. She rolled the pasta down a grater to give it bumps. Any one know what these are called? She mentioned the name a few times, but I didn't write it down and now I forget what it's called. I looked on her site but that was no help.

  • what to do with old recipes?

I have a whole bunch of little cook books (more like pamphlets) and newspaper clippings and other stuff from my grandmother. Some of the stuff is from 1936! There is no real cook book in there. Various promotional literature from different companies. Any way - I'm not sure what to do with the stuff or how to display it. Any ideas? For now the stuff is just in a box in my attic.

  • Is this a tree or overgrown weed?

The neighbor has a tree that I think is really an overgrown weed. The tree has flowers like a paulownia tree, but the leaves aren't right and the "fruit" isn't the same. The leaves look like those of a black walnut however, the "fruit" doesn't match that either. The "fruit" is a big green orb that is big enough to crack a windshield when the land just right. The squirrels seem to enjoy the fruits but make a big mess ripping apart the outside to get at the nut type thing inside? Btw - I'm in Souteast PA.

    Any ideas?

  • Anyone know how to make a bakers cheese cake?

In a suburban Philly bakery I purchased a thin cheesecake (not the big thick NY style). It was called a bakers cheese cake. It had a thin almost pie like crust. Anyone know how to make anything similar?

  • Any familiar with a Baker's cheese cake?

At a local Philadelphia bakery, I bought a thin cheesecake. It was labeled as a "baker's cheese cake". They had the big thick traditional New York style there too (which I can bake). It had a thin almost pie like crust to it. It was a bit more dry than the regular cream cheese type dessert.

Anyone know how to re-create this at home?
