Between Augsburg and Constantinople! Earnestly contending for the faith once delivered to the saints!

  • Protestant Christians: Is this prayer acceptable?

We humbly beseech You, O Lord:

that as You chose Your blessed Apostle Andrew to be a

    teacher and bishop in Your Church;

so he may continually intercede for us in the sight of

    Your divine majesty, through Jesus Christ, Your Son, Our Lord;

who lives and reigns with You, in the unity of the Holy

Spirit: one God, now and forever. Amen

  • Catholics and Orthodox: Is this view of faith compatable with your beliefs?

Faith is not what some people think it is. Their human dream is a delusion. Because they observe that faith is not followed by good works or a better life, they fall into error, even though they speak and hear much about faith. “Faith is not enough,” they say, “You must do good works, you must be pious to be saved.” They think that, when you hear the gospel, you start working, creating by your own strength a thankful heart which says, “I believe.” That is what they think true faith is. But, because this is a human idea, a dream, the heart never learns anything from it, so it does nothing and reform doesn’t come from this `faith,’ either.

Instead, faith is God’s work in us, that changes us and gives new birth from God. (John 1:13). It kills the Old Adam and makes us completely different people. It changes our hearts, our spirits, our thoughts and all our powers. It brings the Holy Spirit with it. Yes, it is a living, creative, active and powerful thing, this faith. Faith cannot help doing good works constantly. It doesn’t stop to ask if good works ought to be done, but before anyone asks, it already has done them and continues to do them without ceasing. Anyone who does not do good works in this manner is an unbeliever. He stumbles around and looks for faith and good works, even though he does not know what faith or good works are. Yet he gossips and chatters about faith and good works with many words.

Faith is a living, bold trust in God’s grace, so certain of God’s favor that it would risk death a thousand times trusting in it. Such confidence and knowledge of God’s grace makes you happy, joyful and bold in your relationship to God and all creatures. The Holy Spirit makes this happen through faith. Because of it, you freely, willingly and joyfully do good to everyone, serve everyone, suffer all kinds of things, love and praise the God who has shown you such grace. Thus, it is just as impossible to separate faith and works as it is to separate heat and light from fire! Therefore, watch out for your own false ideas and guard against good-for-nothing gossips, who think they’re smart enough to define faith and works, but really are the greatest of fools. Ask God to work faith in you, or you will remain forever without faith, no matter what you wish, say or can do.-Martin Luther

    1.Knowing God (The Creeds),

2.Knowing how God wants us to live (The Ten Commandments),

3.Knowing how to pray (The Lord's Prayer),

4.Giving and receiving forgiveness (The Office Of The Keys & Confession),

5.Understanding how we come to Faith (Holy Baptism), and Gospel read/preached

6.Recognizing Jesus' Real Presence in the Lord's Supper (The Sacrament at the Altar).

  • Do Roman Catholics and Lutherans essentially agree on the Eucharist?

This is the Lutheran understanding: It is the true body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, under the bread and wine, for us Christians to eat and to drink, instituted by Christ Himself.

What is the benefit of such eating and drinking?

That is shown us in these words: Given, and shed for you, for the remission of sins; namely, that in the Sacrament forgiveness of sins, life, and salvation are given us through these words. For where there is forgiveness of sins, there is also life and salvation.

How can bodily eating and drinking do such great things?

It is not the eating and drinking, indeed, that does them, but the words which stand here, namely: Given, and shed for you, for the remission of sins. Which words are, beside the bodily eating and drinking, as the chief thing in the Sacrament; and he that believes these words has what they say and express, namely, the forgiveness of sins.

Who, then, receives such Sacrament worthily?

Fasting and bodily preparation is, indeed, a fine outward training; but he is truly worthy and well prepared who has faith in these words: Given, and shed for you, for the remission of sins.

But he that does not believe these words, or doubts, is unworthy and unfit; for the words For you require altogether believing hearts.

  • Why do evangelicals use Bible passages against each other rather than accept the whole package?

For Example The Bible teaches that Baptism saves you. (1 Peter 3:21). Jesus commanded that we baptize all nations in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. When the Bible says this, instead of believing it, you contradict the Bible with the Bible by quoting John 3:16. Why can't you accept that both of these passages are true and correct in their context? You consistently place verses against other verses and claim to be Bible believers. If we are going to be under the authority of the Bible shouldn't it be all of it rather than the parts that fit your theory? Especially when no one believed your theory for 80 percent of the time the Church has existed.

  • In the spirit of Vatican 2, Roman Catholics have been in focused on their ties with eastern Orthodoxy?

However, the more one studies Roman Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy (in depth) it becomes quite clear that many differences exist. The Orthodox generally see this immediately while the RCC tend to pretend it does not exist. By the RCC ignoring the points of disagreement with Orthodoxy do you believe they are ignoring core Roman Catholic teachings?

Foe example: Claiming the Bishop of Rome has a primacy of "honor" is essentially a nice way of saying he has no primacy at all. This pretty much destroys the place of the Pope which is a core Catholic doctrine. Your opinions?

  • The Roman Catholic Church has never ruled on Swedish Lutheran orders could they be valid?

“In 1524, Pope Clement VII, in Rome, consecrated Petrus Magni bishop. Petrus Magni returned to Sweden as bishop of Västerås. In his turn, Petrus Magni, who was one of the last Catholic bishops in Sweden, consecrated Laurentius Petri bishop in 1531 and Laurentius Petri became the first Swedish Lutheran archbishop. Abracadabra! The apostolic succession continued in Sweden all the way up to now.”

Looking for RCC opinions. If yes or no, why?

  • Christians: is it a sin if we do not want to have children even though we are married?

I am just curious. I know God wants us to be fruitful and multiply but are we sinning if we don't want children? This is just out of curiosity as I am happily married with two children.

  • 1 Peter 3:21 makes it clear that Baptism saves us. Why do Christians holding to the traditions of men reject?

Gods word? Baptism....now saves you. The flood is a figure of baptism, in each case, water saves. The world was cleansed when Noah and his family were lifted up by the flood. Baptism cleanses and raises us to knew life. By grace, Baptism is a means of salvation through which the Holy Spirit produces faith (Eph 5:25-27). Luther: "Now Baptism is by far a greater flood than was that of Noah....Baptism drowns all sorts of men throughout the world, from the birth of Christ even till the day of judgment....(Noah's flood) was a flood of wrath, this is a flood of grace." We are forgiven and holy because of Christ. That forgiveness is applied to us in Baptism. The life we are given in Baptism was earned by Christ.

  • Christians: Do you agree or disagree with this article and why?

We teach that since the fall of Adam all men who are engendered are conceived and born in sin that is that they are from their mother's womb full of evil desires and propensities and can have by nature no true fear of God no true faith in God and that this innate disease or original sin is truly sin brings all those under the eternal wrath of God who are not again by Baptism and the Holy Spirit Hence we condemn the Pelagians and others who deny original corruption is sin whereby they assert to the disparagement of the merits and sufferings of Christ that piety is the of our natural powers

  • Why do so many reject the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist?

53 Accordingly Jesus said to them: “Most truly I say to YOU, Unless YOU eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, YOU have no life in yourselves. 54 He that feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has everlasting life, and I shall resurrect him at the last day; 55 for my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. 56 He that feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood remains in union with me, and I in union with him. 57 Just as the living Father sent me forth and I live because of the Father, he also that feeds on me, even that one will live because of me. 58 This is the bread that came down from heaven. It is not as when YOUR forefathers ate and yet died. He that feeds on this bread will live forever.” 59 These things he said as he was teaching in public assembly at Ca·per´na·um.

60 Therefore many of his disciples, when they heard this, said: “This speech is shocking; who can listen to it?” 61 But Jesus, knowing in himself that his disciples were murmuring about this, said to them: “Does this stumble YOU? 62 What, therefore, if YOU should behold the Son of man ascending to where he was before? 63 It is the spirit that is life-giving; the flesh is of no use at all. The sayings that I have spoken to YOU are spirit and are life. 64 But there are some of YOU that do not believe.” For from [the] beginning Jesus knew who were the ones not believing and who was the one that would betray him. 65 So he went on to say: “This is why I have said to YOU, No one can come to me unless it is granted him by the Father.”
