I recently added a Newfoundland puppy to my family, and while his a joy 95% of the time, his teething is driving us nuts! We are all covered with cuts and scratches from him chewing, chewing, chewing....

    HoHoHo

    By Jonni F.

    Trudging through the icy slush

    urge myself to rush, rush,rush.

These clients want to try my wares,

should I show them, should I dare?

    Not Beaujolais, and not Merlot,

it's straight to Hundred Proof I go,

    I'll pour a little, just a tot

    they'll like this stuff,

    yes, quite a lot.

    We'll toast the season,

    yes we will,

    then I will move in,

    for the kill.

    Buy it now,

    the price is right,

    Happy Christmas to all,

and to all, a good night.

    Moonlight in Winter

    By Jonni F.

    Dancing across the frozen grass,

    glowing , waltzing, graceful

    on the frost.

    Like shimmering diamonds

    to the eye.

Breath is icy as I speak,

my clouds reflect the silver hues.

    Captivated, held in awe -

    by a private luminous moment,

I stretch my arms to embrace

    the dancing beams.

  • A holiday thought for my sister...would you care to comment?

    Sitting with my kids around

    old traditions, somehow new,

tears are pooling in my eyes,

my heart calls out to you.

    Laughter filling up my house,

    singing, dancing too,

    an almost perfect holiday -

my heart cries out for you.

So you are there, and I am here,

just know that this is true -

no matter where you live your life,

my heart will be with you.

    Drambuie

    By Jonni F

    Drambuie, Drambuie

    sip, sip, sip -

    Nectar of Gods

    across the lips.

Pour it straight in a glass,

or try it with ice -

    Both ways you will find

    are really quite nice.

    Drambuie, Drambuie,

    the legend is told -

    our love for you

    shall not grow old.

    Fine Wine

    By Jonni F.

"Would you care to try some wine?" I said,

    "It's a lovely California Red,

not too sweet, not too dry,

I'd love for you to have a try"

He shook his head, and said "Oh, no,

wine is not the way I go -

Can't you show me something new,

    maybe scotch from aisle two?"

I shook my head and said "I guess"

    (paying clients, they know best)

    Opened bottle, poured a pop,

he shook his head and said "don't stop"

I rolled my eyes, and poured some more

    and started spewing whiskey lore.

He downed the shot with one last sip,

he sighed, and even licked his lips.

No wine was bought that crazy day,

Scotch whiskey was the only way.

I've learned this lesson, and it's true,

Open a bottle, they'll come to you.

    A Poem for Sambuca

    By Jonni F.

    Love at first sight,

the small black pup and I.

    Eyes like midnight,

    that seemed to look

    into my soul.

    (and loved me anyway)

    Nothing but love,

    this small black pup,

    for everything and everyone.

    Wagging her whole body,

    love shaking off her

    with every move.

    A decade and more

    of unquestioning love.

    Never wavering,

    never a doubt.

    Held the paw

    of that small black pup,

    and stroked her silky fur,

The midnight eyes looked into mine...

    with love at last sight.

    Memories

    By Jonni F.

    Your written word wakes up

some dormant corner of my mind.

Some casual phrase brings joy and love

    rushing back to me,

    like a freight train.

    Reading on, the thoughts continue,

    jumbled, racing through my soul.

    Happy times,

    when love was safe,

and the whole world was right.

The written memories that you share,

    have given this to me.

    A Life Passage

    By Jonni

    Walking down the busy street,

    darting in and out

    of crowds of people,

    all rushing to get

    nowhere, in particular.

    Single minded in my determination,

    time is the essence,

    rushing, always rushing,

to get from here to there.

    Never noticing the life

    surrounding me,

    the teeming activity

    filling the street.

    Stooped old lady

    blocks my way,

    fumbling with her bags.

    I stop and reconsider

    my chosen path.

    And help her.

    At Last

    By Jonni F.

    Never felt these feelings,

    peace, quiet,

    undemanding presence.

    Feel it the air,

    low grade static,

    or is it simply, joy?

    Enveloping me,

    warm, safe, love.

    Didn't know,

    that this is what

    I'd been searching for.

    And here it is.

    At Last.

    Mojitos

    by Jonni F.

    Mojito time is over!

I thank the powers that be.

My muddler's been broke in two,

    Enthusiastically!

The mint that grew in my back yard,

    is looking pretty sad.

I sprayed it all with Weed-B-Gone,

    not even feeling bad!

I've added sugar, rum and fruit,

    I've cut a thousand limes,

And now I'm happy to announce,

    That it's Martini Time!!!!

    The Little Things

    By Jonni F.

    Fresh bread baking,

    babies waking.

    Little Things,

    here for the taking.

    Cats a purring,

    breezes stirring,

    Little Things that

    keep occurring.

    A warm embrace,

    a smiling face,

    these Little Things

    are filled with grace.

    New leaves on a tree,

    dipping toes in the sea,

    these Little Things,

    are big, for me.

    Red Leaf

    By Jonni F.

Wandering up the cold stone path,

    slipping,

moss dampened by early morning rain,

    a hint of color

in the corner of my eye.

    One red leaf

    to break the monotony

    of the wet, sticky day.

    Crisp, and bright,

    The promise of fall.

    Sheer joy,

    at being alive.

    Chains were much too heavy

for the poor old man to bear,

    So from his final bedside,

he gave us both a prayer.

    "Forgive your mother,

    both of you,

    your sisters too, I ask"

    And in those quiet moments,

    it seemed an easy task.

    "Make peace with me,

    and know,

that I am always by your side".

When that final prayer was done,

    the chains were gone,

    he died.

  • I've been working on this for quite awhile....what do you think?

    Sister

    By Jonni F.

    We both began,

    in the home that wasn't.

    I was your child,

    you were my god.

    I shared your adventures

with my six year old eyes.

    You left to find

    a home that was,

    and I

    was all alone.

    Values you gave me,

    peacock feathers forever engrained.

    Books and museums,

    new people, new places,

and learning what home could be.

    A lifetime later,

    we share our adventures,

    our triumphs,

    our sorrows,

shared like those peacock feathers of long ago.

    We have finally found it.

    We are home.
