Why are creationists less evolved than the rest of us ?
33 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhat is the soul, in your opinion ?
With experiments on the human brain, people have been able to isolate the areas of the brain which contain memories, language, thoughts and even personality - and by removing the neural paths to these areas have been able to clear memories, clear language skills, thoughts and change personalities, proving these things are physically stored in the brain. What is left to belong to the soul ? What part of you will exist in Heaven ? If you believe all of your memories and thoughts, etc will be with you in heaven - the memories and thoughts when you died ? (in which case what happens if you had alzheimers before you died)
13 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoIf Max Clifford's such a successful Publicist, why is it everybody hates him ?
Surely, if he was any good he would've been able to promote a better image of himself.
2 AnswersCelebrities1 decade agoWhat is a pastor (as used regularly in R/S) ?
Is it just an American word for priest ? Does it apply to a particular branch of christianity ?
It's all vicars, ministers and priests round here.
4 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoIs there any point in writing questions in the Religion section of YA ?
Are there any people in here who aren't steadfastly certain that their god/religion is the right god/religion, or aren't steadfastly certain that the truth can be found by science ?
Is any Christian going to be convinced by anything not in the bible ? Is any atheist going to be convinced by anything in the bible ?
13 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoIs telling respected science broadcasters to "burn in hell" good Christian behaviour ?
From The Guardian :
Sir David Attenborough has revealed that he receives hate mail from viewers for failing to credit God in his documentaries. In an interview with this week's Radio Times about his latest documentary, on Charles Darwin and natural selection, the broadcaster said: "They tell me to burn in hell and good riddance."
He goes on to explain his logical reasons against creationism :
"I think of a little child in east Africa with a worm burrowing through his eyeball. The worm cannot live in any other way, except by burrowing through eyeballs. I find that hard to reconcile with the notion of a divine and benevolent creator."
Attenborough went further in his opposition to creationism, saying it was "terrible" when it was taught alongside evolution as an alternative perspective. "It's like saying that two and two equals four, but if you wish to believe it, it could also be five ... Evolution is not a theory; it is a fact, every bit as much as the historical fact that William the Conqueror landed in 1066."
---
It's fine that some of the Christians in here don't believe in evolution, despite all evidence to the contrary, but would you send hate mail to everybody who disagrees with you ? And how does that sit alongside all that "Love thy Neighbour" stuff ?
20 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoGod or Satan : if they exist which would you prefer ?
God, if she exists, has had a book ghostwritten by people in which it;'s mentioned that he kills people, demands worship and other bad stuff - and has also waged a verbal attack on Satan's character. God claims his place is wonderous and Satan's is bad.
Satan hasn't responded by calling god names, and just seems to be keeping a low profile.
How can we make a decision based on only one side of the argument ?
Personally I'd choose to not worship any imaginary being, but I think I'd give Satan a chance ahead of the child killer.
23 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWho decided the Pop Idol people would be singing Hallelujah ?
I'm sure Jeff Buckley will be spinning in his watery grave, while Leonard Cohen counts his money as these talentless pop wannabes ruin one of the great songs.
Was Leonard being prophetic when he wrote the line "but you don't really care for music, do you ?" - and was he aiming it at Simon Cowell ?
4 AnswersSinging1 decade agoThe Champions' League has been predictable yet again. Is it time to go back to the European Cup format ?
The group stages are over, and the top two of each league could have easily been predicted - not a single shock of a big team being knocked out, or a smaller club getting through. 100+ boring predictable games leaving this competetion virtually unwatchable.
9 AnswersUEFA Champions League1 decade agoDoes anybody actually watch and enjoy the Champions' League and UEFA cup in their present form ?
Personally, since they replaced the European Cup with the Champions' League I stopped watching any European competitions. The format seems to favour the bigger clubs, and reduces the likelihood of an upset - and involves far too many games, and too many clubs - for me Bring back a knockout competetion between the champions (not the fourth placed teams !!!) from all European leagues.
5 AnswersUEFA Champions League1 decade agoPsychics : answer my question ?
I don;t think I need to write the question down, as I'm sure the psychics don't need that information.
15 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhy do christian fundies get offended by the idea that Homo Sapiens have evolved from an early ape ?
Yet have no problem with the idea of being evolved from "the dust of the ground".
21 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhich group portrays themselves best (and worst) in this section Xtians/Muslims/Atheists ?
I'm an atheist, but I realise that some atheists (myself included) can come across a bit pompous, although to the same scale as some of the Xtians in here.
Whereas we have far fewer Muslims in this section, but people like Aashiq_Al_Rasul always seem to conduct themselves well, and portray their religion pretty well.
19 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoIf the fundamentalist Christians in here are right, would you want to go to Heaven ?
How would you spend eternity, if they were right (big leap of faith for that one) but you had the choice :Burning in a lake of fire or spending your time surrounded by fundamentalist Christians ?
I'd have to chose the burning (especially since I would have left my physical body, and fire doesn't really affect the "soul")
17 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoIf McCain's name had been Abolf, would democrats have been deriding him for his name ?
in the same way Republicans seem to think the democrat candidate's surname's similarity to Bin Laden's first name, is a reason to vote against him !!!!
19 AnswersElections1 decade agoDo you vote for a candidate/party or against the opposition ?
The impetus for me voting in the next UK general election, is to try and stop the Tories, rather than voting for Liberal/Labour or whoever is in the best position in my constituency. If I was American I would vote Democrat, but mainly to try stop the Republicans stay in.
Are your votes positively or negatively influenced ?
5 AnswersElections1 decade agoTheists : Do you share your religious beliefs with your parents/guardians ?
If not, and your parents are atheists, what event lead you to religion ?
