  • Warm camping in April?

Of course I know April is still kinda cold, and rain is a possibility, but where around the Bay Area are there generally warm days in April where we could camp for 2-3 days? I think near the ocean or high in the mountains would be too cold... My friend lives in San Jose, I live in Hayward, willing to drive up to 100 miles or so. Looking for a very forestry area, but with toilets and a fire pit :) thanks in advance!

  • Apartment lease criminal background check, misdemeanor 22 years ago in a different state? Will we be denied?

My boyfriend and I are about to apply to a luxury apartment complex in Dublin, California. Besides credit check I believe they will also do a criminal background check because the application asks "have you ever been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony". I am clear, but my boyfriend had a misdemeanor 22 years ago in a different state (non violent crime, for drug possession) and was convicted.

I heard from a friend that they probably only check the last 10 years and it is unlikely they will pull records from another state... what do you guys think? Any chance we will denied the apartment for his misdemeanor from 22 years ago from another state?? he has had NO other criminal charges ever. Maybe they will overlook it? I am a nurse with a high paying job and good credit score ~ that should be enough to get the apartment right?? Again we are in California.

Thanks so much for all opinions!

  • Where is a decent place to live in the east bay: close to a bart station and close to 580 E, read more details?

My long term boyfriend and I currently live in San Francisco. I may be accepting a high paying job in Stockton, CA. We are looking to move somewhere in the east bay. I dont know the east bay cities very well. Could you suggest some places that I should look into that will be close to a BART station, so my bf could take bart into SF. At the same time, it must be close to hwy 580 E, and I would like my commute to be no more than about 60 miles at most to get to Stockton.

other info; we do not have any kids, and price of rent is not a concern as our combined income would be somewhere around $10,000 per month. also do not like too much of a "small town" feel or "farm country" feel. a place with a decent downtown area (my bf is very sad about leaving the big city feel of SF!) we dont need night clubs or anything, but we do like good restaurants, parks/nature, and dont want to have to go far to find a grocery store or walgreens. we will only have 1 car, at least until i can save enough from my new job to buy a second car.

i think berkely and oakland are still too far of a commute to stockton... and my bf feels livermore/dublin/pleasanton is too long of a commute for him to sf. i really dont know anything about places such as walnut creek, san leandro, hayward, alameda, etc.

THANK YOU FOR ALL ANSWERS AND ADVICE!!!

  • Those very familiar with the Bay View area of San Francisco... walking 7 blocks in this neighborhood?

To those who know the Third street neighborhood, I need your advice. I've lived in the Tenderloin district for 7 years, so I'm not afraid of sketchy people as long as Im not gonna get robbed or shot lol. I have honestly NEVER been to the Thirds street/Bay View neighborhood because I know it can be very dangerous. I need to run a quick errand over there at a health clinic on Monday, and I am planning on walking about 7 blocks, daytime, around 1:00PM. This will be around the 3rd/Caroll T stop and 3rd/Gilman/Paul T stop. Should I be worried??? Im a 25 year old white girl...

    THANKS!

  • What does STL mean next to nursing job postings?

I am new graduate RN an have been applying for jobs. Some posting I see say "STL" next to the position - anyone know what this means? For example there are postings that say "L&D" and then there are other postings that say "L&D STL". I have asked my sister who has been a nurse for over 10 years and even she does not know what this means, and neither do my fellow nursing school graduates. Thanks again to anyone who knows the answer!!!

  • Which of the following books should I read?

Looking to start a new book. My taste is eclectic but mostly I love great fiction. I need advice on which of these books I should read. They are all on my bookshelf - please recommend or discourage if you have read any of them:

    1. The Kitchen God's Wife - Amy Tan

    2. Jailbird - Kurt Vonnegut Jr.

    3. 100 Years of Solitude - Gabriel Garcia Marquez

    4. Haroun and the Sea of Stories - Salman Rushdie

    5. The Three Muskateers - Alexander Dumas

    6. The Chronicles of Narnia (I have seen the movies but not read it...is it worth it after having seen the movies multiple times?)

    THANKS FOR ALL YOUR INPUT!

  • Can I get a tan in Portland next week?

Going to be visiting a friend in Portland this week, this thursday and friday I will be at her house while she is at work. My question is, if I lay out in the sun in her backyard, will I get a tan?

I'm asking because I live in San Francisco and it is never warm enough to wear a swimuit on the beach because it never gets much higher than 70 degrees, all this week it has been a high of 62 degrees here. When I check the weather for Portland it shows mid 80s all week which sounds AMAZING! My friends seems to think I will be too cold to lay out in a swim suit...which I disagree with. So opinions? Tanning in Portland next week?

Thanks to all answers in advance!

  • What public transportation is there from San Francisco to Sacramento?

I am applying for a job at the UC Davis Hospital in Sacremento, but have been living in SF without a car for 7 years. Anyone aware of what my options are? Or would I be totally required to drive everyday?

Cant afford a car right now, but if I work at this job for a few months, then I think I could afford a car with my new salary... Thank so much! I am open to ANY options, even if it is a long commute with transfers.

  • Desperate to get rid of cat pee smell out of expensive dry clean only wool coat?

Hi, can anyone please give advice on what to do with my wool coat/jacket - dry clean only - that my cat peed on? I have already taken it to the dry cleaners and that helped a tiny bit, but smell is still so strong! I have done a little research and a lot of people are suggesting soaking in vinegar? I was going to let it soak in my bathtub in cold water with a little vinegar I guess for a few hours? Then just airdry? or maybe the most delicate dry cycle on the dryer? Please offer any advice you can. My biggest fear is discoloration of the beautiful jacket and loss of quality, I dont mind if it shrinks a little bit, just not a lot. This jacket was a birthday gift from my mother and it cost $350!!! she keeps asking why I dont wear it and it would break her heart if I told her my cat peed on it!

So will vinegar cause discoloration? Best way to dry a big wool jacket if I soak it in my bathtub? ANY words of advice will help!! The dry cleaners were useless :( Thank you so much in advance for your help.

  • Is it legal to put a free couch on the sidewalk? in downtown san francisco?

We want to get rid of a loveseat. Will we get in trouble for just putting it in front of our apartment on the sidewalk? I see people doing this all the time... just want to make sure it is legal and I won't get in trouble or anything...

Its a nice leather loveseat, but our cat's scratching totally destroyed the side armrest of it, so it seems too complicated to try to sell it. I dont know how much people would pay for it, even though only one armrest is damaged, the rest is in good condition.

SO my main question is, can I just leave it on the sidewalk? Or is it really worth it to try to sell it on craigslist?

If it makes any difference I am near the intersection of Hyde x Sutter

Thanks in advance for all answers!

  • How can I find out what day I will be taking the NCLEXRN? Will they tell me after receiving my application?

I want to confirm I understand this correctly - I'm graduating this December, and I know about all the stuff I have to submit to send off my application to sit for the NCLEX-RN exam, and I understand after they receive and approve my application, they will send me what choice of dates I have to take the exam, correct?? I am just trying to make vacation plans after graduation, and I really wish I knew what days I will have to choose from. I have looked through the all the websites and I have found which testing centers I have to choose from, but I still have no idea roughly what day it will be, all I hear from my school and friends is that it be will "mid january" ... any one know exactly where I can find more info on test dates? Or do I just literally have to wait till they approve my application? Thank so much to all who answer! Oh FYI this is for the California RN license (I'll be testing in the San Francisco location)

  • A few quick ? about getting a new driver's license at CA DMV? Last license already expired...?

Hi, so I'm trying to make an appointment online to come in to the DMV to get a new license, my last one expired several months ago and I didn't renew it by mail in time. I have been looking through the DMV website and cannot find the answers to these questions. What type of appointment do I schedule on the DMV website? Will I need to retake the written test since my license is expired?? or a driving test? I have not had to retake the driving potion since I got my license at 16, which was 8 years ago. Last time I just renewed by mail on time and it was super easy. So just need to know if I need to study for the written test. Also, when I show up, do I more than one type of ID? I have a valid U.S. passport, but do I need a second additional form of ID?

By the way, this is for a California DMV [San Francisco]. Thanks so much to all who answer!

  • Moms, any advice for a nursing student on a postpartum unit? What qualities did you like/dislike in your RN?

So I have already had a full semester of maternity nursing where I had several days on antepartum, labor and delivery, and postpartum. So I know what to expect in terms of my responsibilities. I have chosen postpartum/well baby nursery as my specialty so I will be in the hospital 3 days a week, and altho I will be supervised by an RN, I will be quite independent and hoping to spend a lot of time with my patients, teaching and answering their questions. When I was a newbie student, I was mostly focused on not doing anything wrong, lol, and just trying to keep up with all my responsibilities. Now as a senior I really want to work on my patient interactions!

To those of who have delivered in a hospital, do you have any advice for me as a nursing student on a postpartum unit? What did you like about the nurses you had after delivery, or what did you not like?

Did you feel like they came into the room too much and bothered you? I usually like to check on my patients quite often just to see if they need anything or if they had any questions, just to let them know I am here for them. Do you think they should have explained certain things more? What are the extra little things I can do to provide the best care to new mommies?? Dads feel free to answer as well!

Lastly, I am worried parents may not trust me because I am still a student [even tho I will be graduating this december!] and also because I have never had a baby of my own [even tho Ive watched my sisters kids born and grow up, and have had a lot of experience with children, and have had nursing training in the hospital for 3 years now] Hopefully, I can assure them that I am knowledgeable and capable...

Thank you so much for reading/answering, I am truly excited to help parents welcome their new child into this world. This is the career I have always dreamed of.

  • Romantic restaurant under $30 a plate in vegas?

boyfriend and i are celebrating 5 year anniversary in vegas, but we are on a budget! i certainly dont want an overpriced place with mediocre food, but looking for a delicious place where we can get 2 entrees and 2 drink and pay less than $70 or $80... would also like it to be a romantic and restaurant with a quieter atmopshere if possible. we are staying at the monte carlo so anywhere within walking distance from there. also i enjoy more unique and modern dishes rather than very traditional dishes.

Thanks so much for you answers!

  • Which of these hotels in Vegas is best bang for your buck?

Debating between Circus Circus, Stratosphere, or Excalibur because they are the cheapest and we are on a tight budget. I think they are all pretty similar - we would be getting the most basic room, or possibly a view room. I haven't been to Vegas in over 10 years! So just wondering what people recommend in terms of best value for your money. Also I don't think any of these 3 hotels have a GREAT pool haha, but which one has the better pool? Just going for 2 nights. Its our 5 years anniversary with my bf :D yay. Lastly, it is only a little more money to stay at Flamingo, MGM, Luxor, or Monte Carlo... but not sure if we will be equally happy at one of the 3 cheaper options. I know circus and stratosphere are about a 20 min walk from the heart of the strip, but thats not very far for us. Thanks for your advice!

  • Things to do in Palm Springs?

Will be in Palm Springs for a few days. We are mostly gonna hang at the house by the swimming pool, but will go out a few times maybe to a club or lounge or something - we are 24. Any advice on fun but cheap things to do or a good club/bar to visit? My friend also has a 2 and 1/2 year old son, so any day time recommendations for activities for a small child? Dont wanna spend too much time in the sun tho! Thanks in advance. Happy summer to you all :D

  • How to forgive yourself for a stupid choice and just move on?

Basically I think I'm about to fail a drug test for a really great internship that wouldve paid $22 an hour and it would have been a great stepping stone towards my career. I did not want to do anything to fake the test except exercise and fluids. I took a home test for THC right before I had to go to the lab and the home test was positive. So I am pretty sure I'm gonna fail. I quit about 3 weeks before the test, when I found out I had to take it. I am so devastated that something like a little bit of pot is ruining this opportunity for me. I've been crying, barely sleeping at all, and I am literally sick to my stomach because I am so upset at myself. I feel so depressed. I am trying to accept it and move on with my life but all day and all night I am just filled with hatred for myself and my stupidity. I am so angry and upset with myself. Im having a hard time getting out of bed, and Im so nauseous and stressed out I can hardly eat. I keep trying to tell myself I am a good person, I have a 3.7 gpa in college and I work so hard in school, and this failed UA is not gonna prevent me from finding a career... but i cant get the guilt and anger out of my mind. WHEN WILL THIS GUILT GO AWAY!

  • I remembered I missed my jury duty several weeks after, will anything happen?

I got my jury duty summons, you know, a long before the actual date, so I literally totally forgot about it, because I misplaced the summons paper. so now its been over 2 months since I missed my jury duty... I never even called to find out if I was supposed to show up or anything, I just totally spaced it. I haven't gotten anything in the mail regarding that I missed it... so I'm wondering what will happen? Is there a chance it was just one of those situation where even if I had called each day, maybe I didnt have to come in, so I just got lucky that I forgot about it? Basically I heard you can get a ticket or a fine or something if you miss jury duty!!

p.s. I've been to jury duty twice before, so I know a little about it, I always showed up, and got excused for being a full time college student. but im just so worried its gonna go on my legal record or something that I didnt show up for jury duty. Thanks!
