  • My 11 week old was prescribed penicillin for an infection.....?

4 days into treatment he started to show signs of a severe allergic reaction. Luckily we were already on dexamthasone Intensol (oral steroid) to help with some airway swelling and inflammation. Unfortunately he is too young for Benedryl and the symptoms from the reaction are slowly improving but we still have a very prominent hives and rash. It has been about 8 days since we discontinued treatment and since he is so young he could only take the dexamthasone Intensol for 5 days due to the increase of more bacterial infections with prolonged use. I was wondering how long the rash/hives should last, I feel so sorry for the little guy!! Do you know anything that could help this?

  • How can I make these contractions stop or get more regular?

I am 37 1/2 weeks pregnant with my second child. I have been having contractions for 3 weeks now. Very weak and crampy like that aren't making much change. I am about 75% effaced and 1-2 cm dilated. The contractions I have been having are somewhat regular about every 10-15 minutes, lasting about 30-45 seconds. Basically all day and night, there isn't much I can do to make the stop or get stronger and I am getting frustrated with it. I wish my body would make up it's mind already. My doctor seemed to think I will have him this week, which I don't mind to keep him in a little longer but I am getting worn out with this constant pressure and the contractions. Like I said they aren't strong, just enough to make me uncomfortable. I have walked, bounced on my yoga ball, and used my breast pump to try and get them closer, also I have showered, laid on my side, drank tons of water to try and make them stop. Nothing has worked to do either one... Are there any other tricks I can try to either get this to stop or get stronger and closer?!?

  • Just BHC or preterm labor?

Okay, so a little background first, I am 34 1/2 weeks pregnant for the 3rd time, but only 2nd child. For the past 2 weeks I have been having an INSANE amount of pelvic pressure, called the doctor last Monday she said try Tylenol, more water, and bed rest. Did that for 2 days still didn't help, I called back she told me to go in, so I did. I was 10 % effaced and the outside of my cervix was one but inside still closed. Also I was told I was contracting every 8-10 minutes but I wasn't feeling a thing other than the pressure until this past Sunday when I was having contractions every 10 minutes but found no reason to time them since I was told no need to return to L&D unless they were every 5 minutes or less. So I blew it off. Went for my regular check up on this past Tuesday and was yelled at by my doctor for not going in Sunday. And she said if I have anymore 10 minutes apart or less to go in. Well it's the middle of the night but for the past 18 hours this crazy intense pressure is back and today accompanied by yet again more contractions. I timed them for 1 1/2 hours and had 14 contractions. They are SUPER irregular though not like they were on Sunday. For example 4 minutes, and it lasted 12 seconds, then 9:30 minutes and it lasted 19 seconds. Anywhere from every 4-10 minutes lasting from 8-23 seconds. It is also accompanied but a low dull backache. Just wondering if I should go back to bed and try to sleep it off or go on into the hospital?!? Thanks in Advance!

  • Pain and pelvic pressure at 33 weeks?

I am currently 33 weeks pregnant. This is my 3rd pregnancy but will only result in my second child. I previously had a molar pregnancy which was diagnosed in September 2010. Other than me being nervous this has been a picture perfect pregnancy! I started losing my mucus plug about a week ago and this week, especially the past 24-48 hours I have had a lot of pelvic pressure and small cramping. Nothing regular but nothing makes it go away either. Is this Braxton-Hicks? With my first son I didn't have any so this is something very new for me! He has been very active through all this but it has gotten to the point that it hurts almost bad enough for me to call the doctor but I keep telling myself I go back in 7 days so why bother them. All they are going to do is tell me to go to the hospital and get checked out. Do you think this warrants a call or trip to L&D? TIA!

  • If you are released from a position at work are they required to give you an equal position with equal pay?

My husband has been with the same business for 10 years, he works in security and the company contracts their security from an outside source. So it is a possibility for the company he actually works for to change every 3 years. This past April the company changed and the new company wants to release him from the site because he is "in too good with the business." Meaning he can get things done without going through all the red tape. Is it legal for them to release him from the site? If so don't they have to offer him an equal position at equal pay at a different site? We live in Kentucky, I have tried to Google the KRS but can't figure out how to word it to find the correct statutes. Thanks for your help!

  • My 4 year old has asthma and allergies....?

He has been allergy tested and we know what his triggers are and limit his exposure as much as possible, but we live in the country and one of his major allergies ir grass pollen, also we have had torrential rains over the past week and are expecting 4+ more inches by tomorrow night and mold is also another big allergy of his. He takes Zyrtec, Singulair, Nasonex, Albuterol, a Multivitamin daily along with cough medicine and vapor rub PRN. We can not use a vaporizer due to his mold allergy. But as the weather has been lately he is having an allergy attack and illness induced asthma. We due the nebulizer along with the rescue inhaler as often as needed. Is there anything else we can give him to help relieve his symptoms? We give him plenty of fluids and let him nap as often as he feels even if it is close to bed time....I just want him to feel better and I don't think there is much more we can do with all the medicine he is on? I don't need any smart opinions like did your doctor tell you to come here, I am a grown woman looking for advice without taking him to the doctor because I know what is causing his ailments! Thanks!

  • Bleeding and Blood clots after a d&c?

Okay, I had a m/c fetal demise at 7 weeks 5 days, we found out when I should have been 9 weeks. Waited 2 weeks to m/c naturally. It never happened so I had a d&c on 9/24. On 10/3 I passed a blood clot the size of my fist or a little larger, went to the ER they diagnose me with hemorrhaging. I went back into the on Tuesday 10/5. I was pretty much blown off by the doctor but demanded they repeat the scan, he agree'd and they repeated the next day. I called the doctor on Thursday to get the results and they told me I had to be seen first thing the next morning since they waited until after hours to call me back. I went in and they said there was retained tissue they needed to repeat the d&c. So on 10/9 I went back into the hospital and repeated the d&c. I have been bleeding fairly heavily ever since the first d&c, not enough for the doctors to be concerned because I am not saturating a pad every hour. I thought the bleeding was almost over, the past 3 days it has been very brown and spotty....well we just got home from Church and I passed another clot between the size of a quarter and a silver dollar. The bleeding has gone from brown back to bright red. I am supposed to have my f/u appointment on Friday. After the first d&c they found an infection in my uterus, I took the full course of antibiotics and have been feeling better physically other than the bleeding. But what is normal? And at what point should I go back to the ER or Doctor because of the blood clots or the bleeding going from brown back to bright red? I wonder when I will actually be able to move past this! Thanks for your help!

  • I have had to have 2 d&c after m/c what are the chances for a 3rd.....?

First off I have a perfectly healthy 4 year old little boy but we were excited to get the news we were pregnant. Unfortunately that pregnancy didn't make it past 7 weeks 5 days. I was debating on miscarrying naturally or having a d&c done. Since my husband had upcoming ACL reconstruction we opted for the d&c to get it "done and over with" I had the d&c and was told everything was "cleaned out" and we were okay to take all the normal precautions for 2 weeks. Well a week out of my surgery and a week before his I started running a fever and passing huge clots. Called my doctor they called in an antibiotic and told me to stay off my feet which I was as much as possible having a husband with a torn ACL and a 4 year old. Well anyway went to my husband's surgery his went great and seems to be on the road to recovery so I found someone to come sit with him while I took myself to get checked out the following day and I had to make the doctor do another u/s to make sure "everything" was removed and do a blood count. The doctor called me back Thursday and said you need to get in here first thing in the morning you have an infection in your uterus and we didn't get it all out we need to re-do the d&c. So I went back into the hospital yesterday and repeated the procedure. I just want to know what the chances are to need a repeat d&c and will I possibly need a 3rd because I don't think I can go through this again! I feel like I can't move on emotionally until I am physically better. I was told the infection was pretty bad but they don't want to see me for 2 weeks post op, will this affect my future fertility? I just wanna be able to move on!

  • Fever 9 days after D&C?

I had a miscarriage with fetal demise 2 weeks prior to the d&c. I had the procedure done on September 24 and was told to take my temperature for the first 5 days regularly, which I did. Today I began to feel feverish, took my temperature and it is slowly rising, from 99.0-99.7-100.0 with-in about a 3 hour period. I called my doctor because I am worried about infection in my uterus and causing further fertility issues. She is calling me in an antibiotic but unfortunately the pharmacy doesn't open until 10 am tomorrow. My question really is what are the chances an infection could cause future infertility? I have tried to Google it but really can't find any useful information? So anything you have will help tremendously!! My husband has an AC reconstruction surgery scheduled first thing Monday morning so I can't get into the doctor until Friday when he will be strong enough to be by himself for a few hours. I am totally freaking out....Also I am totally freaked out about general anesthesia, so I had them give me an epidural with a twilight and have had a TON of back pain that is pretty unrelieved with the pain medicine they have given me.....I am dealing with the pain but really worried about the fever!

  • I had an epidural yesterday with twilight anesthesia.....?

I had to have a d&c yesterday because I had a m/c and I had the option of general anesthesia or an epidural with a twilight anesthesia, well ever since the epidural wore off I have had severe lower back pain, on a scale of 1-10 1 being no pain, 10 being the worst pain I have felt I would give it a 7-8. I called the doctor and they said if it still hurts this bad tomorrow to go back to the hospital and have it checked out. I had an epidural when I was in labor with my son 4 years ago but don't remember any pain afterward. I guess what I want to know is, is it normal for this kind of pain? The doctor told me to talk over the counter Motrin for pain and obviously that is doing NOTHING!!!! Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

  • What to expect after a d&c procedure?

I had to have a d&c done yesterday due to fetal demise, I am still having a hard time emotionally dealing with the loss but what physical symptoms should I expect? My legs and vagina are very sore but I am not having much bleeding plus I am having some lower back pain. Could the back pain be cause by the epidural? They also gave me a twilight so I wouldn't remember anything. Any help here is appreciated!

  • hCG levels after supposed miscarriage?

Ok, so I am going to try and give as much detail as possible. I went on Depo in August '09 had too many side effects so in December '09 I switched to NuvaRing. As of April 2010 I still had no menses so I came off NuvaRing and my husband and I decided if I got pregnant then great but we weren't going to go crazy trying. Well July 3, 2010 I had a crazy dizzy spell come on and it didn't go away for a while and I still have spells here and there, I had a CT Scan, an MRI, went on multiple medications, Valium, Meclazine, Zofran, and Klonopin to try and control the dizziness but nothing worked. I also took multiple pregnancy test both HPT and the hospital and doctor performed many which came out negative. I didn't take anything for more than 2 weeks, on August 5 I took a HPT and got a positive, so I called my family doctor and they got me in right away and confirmed pregnancy as well as a quantitative blood test. Everything went well, I had a scan done on August 24 which showed a perfectly healthy 6 week 1 day fetus. My first prenatal appt was September 1, everything checked out fine. They scheduled another scan for September 13 to confirm the EDD. I was so excited to see my baby again I took my mom and cousin along and got the most shocking news of my life, that the baby was in fetal demise, and there was no heartbeat. I should have been 9 weeks on the day of the scan and the fetus measured 7 weeks 5 days. Now here is where the confusion comes into play. My hCG is where it should be for a 9-10 week pregnancy not for fetal demise at 7-8 weeks. I had my levels taken August 5, September 1, 14, 17 the only numbers I don't have are from September 1, but on August 5 it was 50, September 14, 246,601 and dropped very little on September 17 to 238,720. Which is about right because between 9-11 weeks your numbers reach as high as they will go and then they fall and level off for the remainder of the pregnancy. The scan on the 13 was not very thorough in my eyes, lasted an entire 5 minutes tops, and in that time, she measured my ovaries, cervix, uterus, fetus and spent maybe 30 seconds on the heartbeat. I am not wanting any false hope by any means but I am so confused because my numbers are where they should be, I have absolutely NO spotting, bleeding, or cramping, I still have my morning sickness and everything else. I am taking horrible care of myself this week because of stress not eating, sleeping, drinking as I should nor taking my vitamins. Please help me make sense of this, I do have an appt tomorrow morning to schedule a D & C which I am not comfortable with at all! Any advice is appreciated! Thanks!

  • 7 weeks 3 days pregnant but....?

I had an ultrasound last week and the baby measured 6 weeks 1 day putting my EDD at 4/18/11. I had my first prenatal check-up yesterday and my midwife said my uterus feels like 6 weeks. We did see and hear the little heart beat last week. It only has a little 2 chambered heart but we saw and heard it. So neat they can see it this early. My midwife scheduled another ultrasound in 2 weeks, to confirm the EDD. I am worried something happened. But I read somewhere that when you see the heart beat that greatly reduces the chances of a M/C. Anyone that help me put my mind at ease is greatly appreciated. By the way this is my second pregnancy and it is WAY different from the first! With my son I measured perfectly the entire time!

  • Will the ati radeon 3100 graphics work with my TV?

I have a Toshiba Satellite L305D Laptop that I would like to hook up to my tv, what I don't know is if my ATI Radeon 3100 graphic video card will allow this to happen. I am not very computer literate, ha ha. So please speak in layman terms. I can generally figure things out but I don't want to waste the money on this S-Video cord if it won't work anyway! Thanks!

  • Pregnant!? What does it sound like to you?

Okay I know it is ALWAYS a possibility to be pregnant as long as someone is having sex. I am not denying that in the least. I am currently on Depo Provera, switching on the 14th to NuvaRing due to too many side effects from Depo. I was sick a few weeks back and was put on the antibiotic Azithromicin. I called my regular Doctor and both the nurse and Doctor said that it could interfere with Depo and to use a back-up for 30 days, I was reading a lot of information online and got confused not knowing which sites were reliable and which weren't. So I called my OB last Monday and had an appointment already for this past Thursday, I asked the nurse if there were drug interactions between the 2 and she said yes as well. So I left it at that. So when I went in for my appointment I had asked the nurse and she said since it is a derivative from penicillin that it would interact with the Depo, but to ask my Midwife just to be certain. She told me no it absolutely would not interfere with each other. I think she would have the best knowledge since she is the Midwife but with so many other people telling me otherwise I am nervous! I know it is possible to get pregnant on birth control period with out being on an antibiotic because that is how my son was conceived! My husband and I did have sex without using a back-up This past Saturday (9 Days ago.) For the past 5 days I have been nauseous, dizzy, and extremely tired ( to the point that after sleeping 10 hours a night I have to lay down and take a nap by noon, and I am still so exhausted by 9 pm I am ready for bed again! And sleep until 7-8 the next morning!) I know it is rare and near impossible to have pregnancy symptoms that early, I don't know if it is just my nerves or if I really am pregnant. Since I am on Depo and don't have a menses when do I take a pregnancy test? Do you think I am pregnant or do you think my nerves are getting the best of me? My sense of smell has also increased. I have NEVER been sensitive to smells, even when pregnant with my son but the slightest smell can make me so queasy I think I am gonna lose everything in my stomach! I haven't actually thrown up but I am pretty good about holding it back and I have been pretty close to it. Help me put my mind at ease, please! Any REAL answers are appreciated! Thanks!

  • A little Paranoid! What are the chances?

OK, well I got pregnant 4 years ago while taking the pill, so I know my husband and I are fertile people! I am on depo provera now due to lack of comfort in the pill's effectiveness. I was sick last week and went to the doctor, she diagnosed me with sinusitis and gave me the antibiotic Azythromicin. I took the full course of the 5 day pill, it is supposed to stay in my system for 30 days. Well long story short, we had intercourse with-out using a back-up method on Saturday. What are the chances, actual percentages of this resulting in pregnancy? I called my ob/gyn and she said they would give me a blood test on Thursday to check hCG levels. I have an appt already on Thursday for a yearly pap and to talk about other birth control options as the shot and I are not getting along! I have tried Googling and trying to find as much information as possible but everything contradicts what the other site said and I don't know what is good information and what isn't! Am I just being EXTREMELY paranoid, or is this a real possibility?

  • Oh the joys of motherhood!?

Okay my son is 3 and is a typical 3 year old in most aspects. My issue comes with his behavior around more than 3 people. Last night we celebrated Thanksgiving with part of our family and my son refuses to listen. Typically in these situations we will just pack up and go but I don't do this on Holiday's because I think you need to spend the time with your family. And I love being around my family and don't think I should be punished because my son doesn't behave right. But even after we come home like today he is acting the same way he did last night. In a few days he will start listening and behaving normally but this morning he has gotten a stool climbed up and gotten a steak knife out of the knife block, sprayed hand sanitizer in his eye, and went into the bathroom and squirted his soap all over. How can I get him to behave around groups of people and even after we get back home! I do spank him (my mind will not be changed on spanking I think a big issue with kids these days, is that they aren't spanked) I use time-out, I take privileges away. Nothing works. I am a stay at home and the main disciplinarian in our family which I am also fine with but I want to be able to take my kid somewhere and have him listen and behave! I don't want to be embarrassed by his behavior. And he doesn't act like this all the time, My girlfriend and I went to lunch with her mom last week and he was amazing, he sat down, ate his lunch, and played quietly while we talked and ate our lunch. I understand that his is 3 and isn't going to be a perfect child all the time and will run around, I m fine with that but when I tell him to stop I want him to stop! Please no cookie cutter answers, they don't work I have tried them. Also if we are at a store and he acts out because he wants a toy and doesn't get it I will quit taking him with me for a few weeks and explain why he can't go and that typically fixes that behavior but it does need to be re-enforced every now and then. But I can't not go to Christmas with my family because he isn't listening! HELP!!!

  • Is Depo-Provera effective while taking Azithromicin?

I am 24 and very responsible I have a 3 year old and don't need another kid right now! That is why I want to make sure it is effective, or know how long we should avoid intercourse to ensure pregnancy doesn't happen! I have been on the Depo shot for 6 months now and want to make sure it is still effective for preventing pregnancy while taking the antibiotic Azithromicin. I have heard birth control pills are ineffective in preventing pregnancy while taking an antibiotic but I cannot find any information regarding the depo shot's effectiveness while taking an antibiotic! Help I don't want to get pregnant!!!
